Round 21 (Non MFC Games)

Are the Hawks getting specialist coaching from the Scott twins: I haven't seen so much whinging at every free against.

Hawks fans heading for the gates.

Maybe Freo didn't need to tank last week after all

OMG Monfries selfishly trying to make himself a hero.

Could well turn the game.

The ball had clearly gone through for a behind, so out of play, Hodge doesn't attempt to avoid contact but actually goes looking for it (a drastic change in direction with his hips) so it has to be classified as intentional, he hits him high and because Wingard's head also hits the behind post the impact is either high/severe.

This all means that Hodge should be sent straight to the tribunal with no chance of a guilty plea. In fact his poor record should add points to his loading. Minimum 3 but should get 4 because that's a very bad look for the game (Wingard is also very lucky that he doesn't seem to have suffered much damage - could've been a hell of a lot worse).

I'd also double the sentence, just because Dorks fans are pr!ck$

On MRP previous form because Wingard has come up OK they will say nothing here, move on. It seems to be about the damage inflicted not the act itself.

Gotta love the arrogance of Dorks supporters. Bloke at work was going tonight, i asked him who he was playing, said no idea its not that important. Betcha he knows its Port Adeaude now!!

Didn't anybody tell Port Adelaide that they had nothing to play for?

Love Chad Wingard as much as I hate Hawthorn.

Nice to see some one arm tackling attempts from Frawley. You can take the boy out of Melbourne...

Wingard will be the best player in the AFL soon.

Robbie Gray will be hard to top...

Norm Smith winning, multiple premiership playing, premiership capt, loved by playing group, mentally unstable guy.

Sigh....

Doesn't mean he's right in the head though 'Moon'...

...but seriously his biggest strength is also his greatest weakness. He hates being beaten and you can get under his skin when he is, he starts to lose it a bit.

I remember wishing Frawley all the best when he left.

But now, he is the primary reason why I do not want them to win.

If they win, his premiership medal will not be deserved. They are carrying him.

Frawley is seriously turning into a massive spud. He seems to just have gotten worse this year.

He simply does not suit their style and game plan.

Wowsers, Frawley has gone from average to genuine A-Grade spud. Is it just because he's surrounded by people who actually know what the hell they're doing?

I noticed how a few Hawks players got around him for setting up a basic, common-sense Rioli goal in the first half. Found that a bit telling.

Surely Hodge can't be suspended for that. It was nothing. Wingard's head didn't come off. It was low impact. $ 150.00 fine. Move on!

The scary thing is what it could have been. On slow mo it looks bad Hodge is plainly intent on contact even though the ball is dead and Wingard is next to the post. Lingey keeps saying you have to take out the fact that Wingard is next to the post, I don't agree, lining someone up next to a post is dangerous.

I’d love a dollar for every commentator who says “We all love Hodgey but…” before this weekend is out.

Oh boy, if the Hawks drop either of the next 2 matches... holy crap. That would be hilarious.

Maybe the dees could take a leaf out of Ports book instead of being on their end of season trip with 3 rounds to go!

Just a thought.

It's amazing how Port did this called "applying pressure" and look what happens. They rattled Hawthorn from the start who never got going.

Pressure requires no skill, experience or football knowledge. It is simply a state of mind, how all times can't do it all the time at AFL level amazes me.

Wingard is a genuine star, Hodge deserves four weeks but will get one.

Melbourne could learn a thing or two from Port. After enduring similar circumstances (with far less concessions) they've found a way to exceed all expectations.

We've treaded water.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
