MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 21

They want to finish below us so they can get Parish.

Not so sure he's who we want but the Bombers may have first say in it.

Let them. Id rather finish on top of them.

Would be embarrassing for them if they beat us twice and we finished higher.

INS: Newton, Salem, Stretch

OUTS: Jetta, Bail, M. Jones

I like these ins. Much needed class and skill.

Yes, finishing on top can be embarrassing

Lumumba, Stretch, Newton, Neal-Bullen, Harmes, MIchie and a very tired Brayshaw = too many players who don't get enough football. That leaves a huge amount for Jones, Vince and Viney to do.

Was 5th highest last week with 20 disposals the top was 29 and 2nd highest was 24, 4th highest clearances, 5th I %0 and 3rd rebound I50, most Goal Assists and should have been more but for missed goals. All from the second lowest time on the ground. Does not warrrant being lumped in with the others and a very tired Brayshaw.

Sunday has the Essendon game written all over it

  • Away game at the G
  • Opposition coming off a horror performance
  • We'll come in cocky and arrogant despite putting in a shocker as well
  • Opposition will fluke a 6 goal quarter while we bury our heads.
  • We'll play our token 1 good quarter of footy in the last qtr and lose by 6 points just to remind our fans that if we were switched on for more than 30 minutes we would've won easily.

Agree and just like daniher did, does anyone else fear Levi will suddenly find his kicking boot?

Glad to see Newton back in.

Especially with Tyson out, I think he helps around the midfield and is good around goal too.

Newton hits the scoreboard and has way more footy smarts than Bail and Jones.

Happy to see him get another run at senior footy.

First time in his 15 games he's come close to doing anything though

I look at our side and question who is likely to put in a poor performance (due to age and/or ability) and I count way too many: Garland, Howe, Stretch, Lumumba, Michie, Dawes, Harmes, Grimes, ANB, Newton... not a lot of best and fairest votes for thst group this year. Could be another tough day I reckon.

Of course there are 8 blokes out injured, but there is every single week and nobody seems to care or even acknowledge it.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
