Box Hill Hawks v Casey Scorpions

Three quarter time and Casey are down by 64 points after a goalless third quarter.

Goals Bail Moncrieff Page Spencer

Disposals: Riley 27 Kennedy-Harris 19 Bail 18 Terlich 16

Riley had another good qtr and is a real bullock with the ball. He's wearing twice as much mud and turf as any other player. Think he sees it as a badge of pride.

Platt telling the Scorps in the huddle that they have been an embarrassment and need to make individual decisions to get going and salvage some respect.

Mitch White has responded to the bake and has been fierce when close enough to be involved.

Bail remains full of effort. Has given away a couple of frees today but never stops trying while those around him look much more fatigued. And as I type he scores a lovely goal running through the centre and banging it forward.

BH 16.13.109 to Scorps 6.7.43.

Another to Hawks. 116 to 43.

Goal to Burns from the pocket after a clever tap on from Salem among others.

116-49.

Can anyone give us a bit of a rundown on how Lovett went? Thanks, appreciate all your reports

I was there and you can give up on Toumpas. Will be lucky to get pick 50 for him I'd reckon but if you can, start again with a kid that possesses some of the right traits: pace/running, competitiveness and elite kicking.

Unfortunately Toumpas has none of these. He panics with the ball even in the vfl. Put one out on the full when he had more time. Dropped a chest mark that he had to wait under which BH took straight down for a goal. Not powerful or strong enough to break a single tackle, and so slow that he continually gets caught. I have never seen anything in a game to suggest he's an elite kick, as the talk was when he was drafted.

I commented on him on the 2 times I saw him. Certain he must have had more than that, but I wasn't sure who he was initially (no recruiting expert here as you might be able to tell) and hard to see play across the other side of the ground from the stands. What I saw looked promising - decision wise and execution wise. But no better than I have seen from Stretch for example. And its still a first game....

Thanks mate for the honest appraisal

What a sad bunch of promising nothings.

Who what , who cares?

They don't ,I don't

Sorry you had to endure that, KC, but your observations are appreciated.

Looking forward to your usual summary and list of better players.

Thanks

Cant believe Toump only had 6 touches, wow.

Salem in vs the Dogs please, JKH with 24 touches a chance too

Sheesh what happened to Toump! You'd hope the flu. Although he hasnt been getting a heap of the ball he has been laying tackles like a pigdog. Only 1 yesterday. Our outsiders were killed yesterday. 11 to Stretch but only 4 kicks, Hunt only had 6 and so did Toump. Good to see JKH and Salem get a heap of it to. JKH 2 rebounds from 50 and 3 inside 50s. Good work young man.

Hope the manflu passes ready for next week. Toump has now played enough 2 games to qualify (right?) for finals. Would love to see him have a solid finals series to lead into next year.

JKH has responded well after being down on possessions last week. you would like to see him do it again though.

Salem has to come in now after 3 week in the magoos.

OUT OF THE BOX by KC from Casey

The Casey Scorpions had a horror game against the Box Hill Hawks at Box Hill City Oval going down by 74 points in demoralising fashion.

The Scorpions were hit hard by the withdrawal through illness of in form defender Jack Fitzpatrick but still came into the game like their opponents with 13 AFL listed players. However, you wouldn't be able to tell that by the way the game unfolded.

There was an ill wind blowing across City Oval as the game opened under cloudy skies and on sodden turf and, apart from the opening half of the first quarter when early goals came to Nathan Page and Jordan Moncrieff, they were barely in the hunt, trailing by 27 points at half time and meekly allowing the Box Hill lead to blow out with a 10-goal second half. The result was embarrassing for a team that until a week or two ago had top four aspirations.

The Scorpions are sorely missing key forwards Tim Smith and Max King and are lacking focus in the forward division. The Hawks' defence was on top throughout and continually repelled every Casey attack. The Scorpions had Mark Jamar and Jake Spencer in ruck but not dominating as usual against the Hawks. The latter played at his best when up forward and managed two goals.

Aidan Riley stood out like a beacon among the Scorpion' midfielders, dominating with 35 possessions and five tackles. Rohan Bail kicked a couple and looked good when he was allowed the space to run with the ball but the opportunity was limited with the well drilled Hawks covering all bases.

Ben Newton, Jay Kennedy-Harris and Dean Terlich had some good patches while Christian Salem (19 touches) looks not far away from resuming at the higher level. His ball use at times was excellent.

An interesting team member was 23rd player Jake Lovett, son of former Demon star and Casey coach Brett. The 18 year-old from the Dandenong Stingrays had an encouraging debut given the team's poor performance.

The result leaves the team two games and percentage clear of a long list of contenders with three rounds of VFL competition left to play but desperately needing at least one win. That prospect is not very encouraging in the very near term given their next game is against second-placed Williamstown at home this Saturday afternoon.

That's not saying much...so did Morton

Makes you wonder who writes the best players. It says Newton was named in the best but then in Justin Plapps player review he says he had a disappointing game??

Also reading the player review it looks like Salem was our best player and could possibly play against the doggies hopefully.

Toumpas btw was also hit by illness hence why he had a poor performance.

Looks like only Salem & Bail put their hands up for a game this week 'dazzle'.
