Do some supporters really expect us to consistently compete only a season and a half removed from the Neeld/Craig era?

How can any not see some form of progress when we defeated Geelong in Geelong, for so long an impossibly ridiculous notion? Defeated certain finalists Richmond? Smashed the super impressive Bulldogs?

I keep hearing/reading that we we have witnessed this season is "simply not good enough."

I expected to win about 8-9 matches this year. We probably won't, but that doesn't mean that my expectations were realistic or that 8-9 wins is actually an accurate measure of whether we're fixing the issues that need to be fixed or a reflection of whether we're any closer to premiership glory.

Consistent effort.

Edit - I also expect more rousing wins than soul crushing losses. Understand that that's not a realistic expectation though

The be able to compete with teams in positions 16, 15, and 14.

Not a big ask I would have thought

I thought we'd be a game or two above where we are right now, but then again I didn't think we'd beat Geelong at Geelong or Footscray anywhere so...

I'm [censored] off at the inconsistancy. We look really good sometimes, and then we just forget how to play. GWS and Port. The last half against Brissy. Everything but the last Q against Essendon. etc etc etc.

I don't know what the fix is for that. Out played I can deal with. Forgetting how to play... not so much.

To resemble a properly functioning football team without collectively dropping into putrid form for 3 consecutive weeks or more

Even some of the top 4 teams don't have great consistency.

Sydney have been putrid of late. Freo lacklustre.

Hawthorn FCS have lost to Essendon, Port, GWS,

It wasn't until Round 10 when they won 2 games in a row.

Consistency is the holy grail, and something we should be striving for, but we shouldn't be shocked into outrage when we don't get it.

A side that regardless of the odds continues to take the game on with spirited drive and a relentless desire to win. much like the Saints and Bulldogs have been able to show this year.

support from the AFL re players, & game slots, TV slots, equal=isation.

not expect it, demand it !

I expected wed beat the saints and bombers.

But on form we shouldn't have expected to beat - bulldogs, Tigers or Cats

Im not having a go at you Sir PR, I just think there is a lot of over reaction after a loss.... No problems venting but just trying to add some balance and make sense of it all myself

Have those losses raised prematurely our expectations and made the losses to bombers and saints even more disappointing?

Anything better than shite will do.

We are at the very least a 6-win better side on paper compared to that 2013 Neeld team. Without a doubt.

That would out us at 8 wins for 2015. That is still my pass mark.

I don't expect us to be great. I don't expect us to win a flag.

I expect a little hope to last for more than 7 days.

Have you ever seen a team of such losers since the Fitzroy years? Even Richmond in their crapness managed 8-10 win years in the 00s.

They play like they hate one another. Like they have contempt for the jumper. How can you not see it?

Like I said, I didn't expect a team of champions, or even a champion team.

But I expect something that resembles a team.

We have too much talent to be where we are.

Does anyone really rate the Bulldogs as a highly talented group? They're not. But they're a wonderful *team*.

It's still, STILL, a cultural issue. It boggles the mind.

Probably stems from over reactions and decades if poor leadership, continuous coaching and game style changes.

The simple truth is we have to develop a list and it won't happen in the 18 months just gone.

If we can keep this group together a couple more years all this crap will change and we will be like the bulldogs or power etc.

It has little to do with our amount of wins. It has everything to do with our lack of competitiveness and hunger to win. St.Kilda didn't hold us to 46 points. We held ourselves to 46 points, and it's felt like that countless times this season. Unlike under Neeld we can now play games on our own terms but there's countless stupidity that sets us back. It shouldn't be hard to generate chances for the talent of Hogan and Garlett, rather than kicking/handpassing to 1 on 3s deep on flanks and trying to pinpoint stupid centering passes with a slippery ball

I agree do the basics and do them well.

We don't seem to do it. Is it experience or coaching?

If we have ' depth' now they should weed out the offenders

The risk is do we risk fielding a team with no experienced players?

I expect to go to an AFL game that I pay good money for and see players effort, skills and standard that is top level. I do not expect to watch D grade skills and garbage at the highest level.

All I expect is effort. I don't care if they don't have skills, this can be worked on.

What we're not seeing is the basic effort. They drop their heads. Their body language is horrible. They play like a pack of people expecting to lose.

We must have the most mentally soft list in the history of the game. WTF it just baffles me

I thought we'd beat the Bombers, but I also thought we'd lose some games this season that we should win and vice versa (see the Geelong win). Unfortunately, this is our situation. We're a young side that is inconsistent and lacks senior leadership.

I thought we'd win between 6-8 games this season. We're still very much on track to do that. I think we'll get 7 wins.

I get bloody annoyed though on game day and struggle to control my temper, when I see that many of our blokes are making 101 mistakes and generally using the ball like a bunch of unskilled twelve year olds.

Perhaps it would be best to simply expect very little? Then anything more than that would then be pleasing.

I wouldn't know where to start other than Dawes. There's been a fair lot of changing around already. I thought we had the depth at the start of the year (injuries haven't helped). The way we're going now I only see a core of Viney, Jones, Vince, Brayshaw, Hogan, Watts, McDonald, Dunn, Gawn, Garlett, Jetta and Cross (many of whom have had their problems in the past few weeks though).
