There is more to the Bailey era than "we looked great in attack" or "we lacked defence". Those outlooks ignore the fact that the list was a shambles with no leaders, that we had been left behind in the massive cultural shift of the AFL which went from the 90s where success was built around individual stars who did their own thing and played like millionaires to the 2005 onwards era where it was team first, foot soldiers working hard together to a plan. We were caught 5-10 years behind that shift. Everyone else became modern professionals while we were still stuck in the 90s. We were never going to make it without instilling that change.

You're simply using that quote for your own purposes when it's completely not appropriate for your argument and is in a completely different context, and I suspect you know that and you're trying to cover it up with your usual little digs.

Do you honestly believe a team accused of losing games on purpose and still trying to recover from that, a team still trying to build a competitive culture, a team with a supporter base sick of losing, and a team with the most fragile confidence of any team in years has any "meaningless games"?

Did St Kilda roll over? Did Port roll over? GWS doesn't even come into your argument considering they were playing for a finals chance ("apples and oranges" I believe you used earlier).

I'm with you buddy, I just admired PA. Young teams, meaningless games, many a blow out. As Buckley said in his excellent presser, you need a reward for effort and many of our players haven't had that.

Let's hope they get something today.

Its a disappointing day and Ive sort of never played in a game like that where it is my first time ever that didnt sort of mean anything, Pendlebury told 3AW radio.

I wonder how often that attitude has affected the mindset of some of our senior players, either consciously or subliminally.

Today's game may be considered 'meaningless' by some, but when the last game is finished, and we are all ruminating on the 2015 season, 7 (or possibly 8) wins reads better than 6.

At the same time, let's not obsess over the win/loss record.

The upcoming trade/draft periods are Roos' last chance to select & shape the Melbourne team that he knows will define his coaching legacy.

2016 will be the season that we use to assess his contribution.

Every win for our club is so important, meaningless game or not...we need wins to built momentum for the 2016 season...

Look at how impressive St Kilda was last night...we are in the same boat and would love to see that kind of intensity from us in our last 3 games.....the start of the 2016 season is a long way away...I'm going to be barracking for us like we still have a chance at playing finals.

It's not meaningless to me, but I accept it's meaningless to some players some of the time.
