POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 16

Yes,Hogan has been in the system 3 years and can't even kick the ball 45 metres, massive flaw in his game, a few stutters, a sideways glance at the ball, it floats in the general direction but has no force, you would have thought some genius on the coaching staff may have noticed that Hogan can not even carry out the most basic rudimentary action of a forward, being able to carry the ball via foot from the 50 metre line.

Missed ya Bluey

Deplorable game from start to finish, and clearly we would have lost to 16 other sides with that performance. Nevertheless an ugly win is better than an ugly loss, even against poor opposition.

How much joy you take out of that game probably depends on your expectations of Roos as coach. If you believe that winning at any cost is the aim, then celebrate away. If you believe that Roos should be moving the club closer to finals and ultimately a premiership, then you have the right to feel pretty underwhelmed by the performance.

Our game plan and style of football is a joke, and will never be successful against a good side. The best side in the competition averages 40 points more for and 20 points less against than us. That is 10 goals we need to make up to match it with the best. We certainly won't achieve that by having our CHF spending half his day inside defensive 50, and our FF on the wing.

What really disappoints is that we had Brisbane on toast at quarter time yesterday. We hadn't played well, but were still 4 goals up. Every time we went forward long and direct in the first quarter we looked dangerous. We should have won that game by 15 goals, but we changed the way we played, particularly after half time.

Our tackling and pressure was excellent, but our disposal and decision making remains putrid. Still, it is not surprising players second guess themselves when they look up and they have 17 teammates behind them. I'll be bitterly disappointed if we don't make fixing this a focus over the next seven weeks.

A few hard hitting truthes poita. I like it.

It's great to praise the defensive effort. It tends to overlook two things though. The first is that it was against Brisbane who could play with no forward line at all and few would notice the difference. The second is that last season there were plenty of great defensive efforts. This season was meant to be about correcting the offensive side, which on yesterday's evidence has made very marginal progress.

In fairness to Roos, he can't control Tyson's frankly lazy kicks which miss a forward standing 20 metres away all on his own. When you correct the horrible skill errors and the easy shots at goal, that does turn into a big win.

The main positive is the very fact it was a win, which is vitally important for the spirit and mindset of the team. I think we move on from that game quickly and hope for a much better performance against the Saints.

I Guess Gawn is starting to prove the doubters wrong and ending the debate that we are desperate for a good ruckman, when we have an excellent young ruckmeister right under our nose.

Launched a goal from 50 yesterday that cleared the fence

And didn't he like saying on national television that he was the #1 ruck. As if letting everyone know haha.

Those 2 paras appear to contradict each other. If we hadn't changed the way we played and had won by 15 goals, would you still be saying our game plan is crud?

For a return of 4.1 he can stutter and shuffle as much as he likes.

Yes 4.1 every week is 88.22 for a year. I will be over joyed with 88 Goals in 2016

That may well be but we cannot acknowledge a good game?

I think he's been roundly acknowledged, OD:

good to see Dawes and Howe putting in decent displays,

Promising today were the games of whipping boys Howe and Dawes, definitely helped set up from the get go.

Good confidence builder for Howe and Dawes.

Gawn, Howe and Dawes contributed more.

1 - Howe - best game for the year. Should get more votes but still hurting for on the first 14 games.

4. Howe: His best game of the season by a long shot.

3 - Jeremy Howe - best game of the season by a mile.. used his aerial strength to impact the game. Must do that every week

2. Howe, ( Best personal and team game for a while)

2 - Howe (looks better in defence)

3 - Howe: Best game for the year (luckily Roos played him to preserve his trade value)

2.Howe - composed with his ball use and used his aerial talent to advantage, played as he should no keep it up

3- Howe ( actually made some second efforts and was a great springboard from attack)

4: howe - i have maintained that he's a natural defender and he absolutely nailed that role today, intercepting and sparking rebounds

1 Howe (Probably rough given he had 11 marks. A very good 6th best player).

Yes, it's been a slow Monday morning..

We've kicked over 100 points multiple times this year. I'm convinced that's the benchmark the coaches WANT the team to be getting every week, but when things go awry we get... well, the last 3 weeks.

Not sure if anyone's mentioned it yet, but why does Rockliff have a barcode tattoo on his bare ass?

is he gay?

Hawthorn's skill in scooping the ball, purportedly handballing, without being caught is just one of many many finesse touches

that we along with 16 other teams will need to develop over THIS summer. Being proactive is the key next year or else we are too far back.

We also need their ex Melbourne personnel back asap. In some capacity here by whatever means possible except maybe the coach.

Gawn is going to be good. He's getting that confident look and carriage. Build a team around him. Love seeing a ruckman envelop-tackle...

No excuse for Howe not signing is there. Until he does and especially after that game no accolade from me again.

is he gay?

Swipe his barcode and find out

An uglier win was v Collingwood in Sep 1964. Scrappy play, no forward line and a fluke snap getting us over the line.

Backmen could kick and bat too in those days...

Have to admit I did not read all the pages today P-Man obviously missed them.

Yes, he was.

Max got a vote in the coaches award last week, how is this possible, if he was as bad as you make out

Dawes had a better game yesterday He took two marks with his hands it is a while since that happened.

Now all he has to do is stop whinging to the Umpires, concentrate on getting the ball Chris and forget how badly the umps are treating you.

yeah, I went away disgusted from that one.

Doubters? Before this season he had played 26 forgettable games.

I am glad for Max because the calls for him to be culled at year's end would have been very loud had he not shown significant improvement.

The umps this weekend seemed a lot tougher on throws, so it would be just our luck to perfect the "quick handpass" for next season and find it becomes the latest target of the interpretation circus.

Because some on here are simply better judges than the coaches. Just ask them.
