Wrong.

For us to still have 35,500 Members after the previous decade of absolute putrid football is a revelation

1964 was a very long time ago for any return

SWYL,

What was our membership in 1964.

Remember we just an appendage if the MCC back then.

I was a junior member, I reckon we had 500 junior members at 10 shillings for 18 games per season.

I don't have a clue what the adult membership was but 3000 would be a guess.

I agree that our membership is a huge worry. This is because since 2010/2011 we have gone backwards in membership numbers.

Obviously there are reasons as to why we have, given our poor performances for the greater part of the decade, but relying on increasing memberships when we start to win and come good does no good for us now. More members = more revenue generated by the club, but tomorrow's dollars won't help us today and relying on future potentials doesn't either.

The fact is, since 2011 we have gone backwards in membership and potentially backwards since last year. Extenuating circumstances cannot be brought into it, because our profit margin doesn't care about it.

Just at a guess, I'd assume we saw a huge boost with Schwab and Bailey's rebuild and all its promise, then a huge spike when it failed. That would have been followed by a small rise and small fall after the Neeld fiasco. Last season we would have gotten a fair few signing up just for Roos, and when it turned out we wouldn't just come good for nothing - it fell away again.

Don't fool yourself into thinking that the NT/Casey have been ineffectual. Of the 30,000 odd who signed up nine years ago, I'd wager that very few remain.

As said earlier, the fact that we have remained consistent is huge. IMO, it has to do with replenishment.

FYI: We get $500k from the NT government every game we host. That partnership is in place to cover for the memberships that don't get bought.

Premierships = more members, just ask Hawthorn.

Hawthorn's membership in 1996 ( merger kerfuffle time ) was pathetic...... just under 12,500 . We could easily add a further 10 or 15k to our present 35k post a year of consistently competitive effort .

We have a crap membership because we went off the rails after round 13 last year.

Our 0-9 finish to the season kind of went under the radar within the media and was a disgrace on our behalf.

It is surprising the resilience of the members after that pathetic let down.As bad as we ever were. Numbers are not too bad but with a solid season finish we would have over 40,000 for sure this year.

Surprised you didn't go to farthings dc. Some of the bluerinsers probably remember them - if little else.

BTW do I detect some Freudian darkside in your unique spelling of halfpennies?

And having attended the last few home games in Darwin I'd suggest we've been comfortably outnumbered by opposition supporters. The record attendance list at Marrara on the wiki page gives a fair indication of our impact - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marrara_Stadium

Those figures were last updated in 2012, were we even playing up there in 2012?

Oh. It seems Wikipedia has tried wiping the last few seasons from their minds as well. Though I thought while the Doggies were getting 11-14 thousand we were closer to 7-8 through. ?

I agree...Membership didn't become a big issue until the 90's which was the same time players became full time employees

Any idea what our Darwin Membership is...?
