Mid Season Review

Fairly good assessment of the coaching position on the AFL website:

Assessing the performance of Paul Roos must be made in the context of his main objective which is to hand over a strong list, culture and team in 2017 to his successor Simon Goodwin. On that basis Roos is performing well. The side is more competitive, the players are being developed steadily and performing well when stepping up to the seniors and the team is functioning as a unit more often than not. There have been lapses – such as the last minute of the St Kilda game or the second half against the Magpies – but these can merely be filed into the valuable lessons category, particularly on the back of the win against Geelong. Roos is unlikely to mention the past again as the team has steadily built respect and is now a formidable opponent capable of kicking a winning score.

Contracted until: End of 2016
Pressure rating: 3/10
- Peter Ryan

irish maybe, hardtack. certainly wouldn't find many in kiwi land

p.s. is irish gentleman an oxymoron?

Ok... I only mentioned him because I mistook your Phil for another irishman Phil O'Styne.

And yes, an oxymoron ;-)

I really like the reviews. But really to be honest I am sick of the overuse of the redundant word "really". It keeps showing up from assistant coaches to Roos and has been overused for years by our coaches. What is it about the word really?

I think it's really terrific and shows consistency.

I think the lack of tall forward depth means Pedo will stay.

Yes,

And the inability to keep Hogan and Dawes on the park consistently makes him a required player. His form has also been good enough to keep him ahead of Dawes. Will be back for sure.

You've been losing that battle for quite some time, Nasher

I know. Darn my penchant for spelling names correctly! I just find it disrespectful.

This one seems to have irritated me more for some reason. I should know better; people have been getting players names wrong since the beginning. Getting the message: time to let it go.

Disagree with your last 5 words.

Just because it's social media, doesn't give people the right to be sloppy with their spelling generally or their grammar. People who post should respect not only the players but also the readers on this site and make an effort to get things right.

I accept we all make mistakes, but just a little effort on everyone's part shouldn't be too much to ask.

And can someone buy Daisycutter a keyboard with a Shift key.

by or buy - it can happen so easily to all of us.

No matter how hard I try I find that often a small grammar or spell error slips past.

We are both but human.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
