Surely I'm not the only neutral who raised his eyebrows at some of that umpiring. 24-10 and 6 in a row to Carlton in the dying minutes, most of them highly dubious and all conveniently inside or near Port's F50.

Hard not to be sceptical. Doesn't change the fact that Port stunk, but the umps blatantly got Carlton over the line by consistently interfering with every Port effort inside 50.

Calling out Boak for a throw in a game filled with throws that go unnoticed, for example.

I've never seen an umpire pay a mark but another umpire over-rule him to the point where they take the ball and bounce it, either.

I think they will be over the draft treadmill like us. What they showed today and post Malthouse is a better barometer for their future.

If the controlling umpire didn't pay it a touch as soon as it happened then it shouldn't have been changed. Otherwise ether the non-controlling umpire has run in from the distance (and cannot have seen it conclusively), or the controlling umpire has changed his mind. Either of those options is wrong and could have cost Port the game (not that they deserved it, but still).

If the controlling umpire called it though, then so be it.

Looks like the Carlton player waving his arms talked the ump into changing the decision. The Port player had clean possession and should have been called to play on immediately. With the amount of time remaining it was clearly penalizing the attacking team..

Re Carlton I am expecting Griggs to get 3 plus weeks for that sling tackle on Grey. It wasn't even a Trengove type sling it was much worse and the impact much worse. If that is not sited the AFL are a joke.

I am also calling that Mitchell should be sited for lifting his knee into Tex and taking him out. Reckless, high impact? Not sure on the rules but I remember doing it myself once to protect myself instinctively without thinking. i knew I was in the wrong and all hell broke loose when I took out the guy coming at me. It is one of those don't do's.

Still live in hope the Buddy deal backfires on Sydney, too. The Boyd deal makes that one look like a stroke of genius (which currently it appears to be -- we'll see where Buddy's at in 7 years and get a clearer idea).
