Delistings/trades at end of the season

Recommended Posts

Despite all the posts about Watts being traded the MFC offers Watts (along with Hogan, Tyson, Brayshaw and Jones) as one of the limited options for player images that members can have printed on their 2016 membership cards. Do you really think that they would promote this option if they were planning to trade him? (On the other hand, Howe isn't offered as an option!)

They well might.

I'm not sure where the club is re Watts, I was just replying to post that wanted a trade for someone who would be one of our 10 best players. Just think that that possibility is unlikely, and would be surprised if Jack isn't a Demon for at least one more year.

So Freo will get Mccarthy and Bennell this year. Will they have enough room for Hogan in a couple years time? Maybe their giving up?

Ross Lyon has to make more attacking changes to the style, or go out backwards.

so getting McCarthy & Bennell will help, but only if they can get enough ball to them.

Hogan will stay with us, IMO.

I reckon Freo, like the Roos and Cats, are done. At least from winning a flag any time soon. Freo will probably be top 4 again next year and the Roos will probably scrape into the 8, but their lists have gone as far as they're likely to take them.

well the icing gone soft on the cake but they still have a mean cake. so it won't take too much to spruce it up. after all, the hard work is already done in the kitchen. they just need to get the present ation right, & the finished writing up top. some could call it the scorecard. not so much the stats sheet.

stats don't win games, points do.

like th doggies who have built ontop of a decade of solid club growth off field, & on re list, the doggies are now ready to blossom.

Freo are solid in the contested are... so its not far to travel, to fine tune the rest. IMO.

Anyone heard anything regarding Tommy Bugg? Led to believe he's sorting through a contract offer here at the dees, not sure what to think of it

Don't mind Tommy Bugg. Can play as a tagger but also win the ball himself.

I've got it on very good authority that IF Buddy Franklin is to return to playing football, it won't be at the Swans....very interesting times for them as a club with their half trade ban (up to players value of 350-400?). They won't be trading Tippett (despite what some think on here) or Reid now that Goodes/Buddy are out. Source is a guy I know in the Swans Coterie who has very reliable info. Also said that Sydney would be looking for first round picks for their academy players and would need to probably offload players above the age of 27-28. So Jack, Parker, Mitchell, Hannebery, Heeney all off limits....but there's a mid at the Swans i think we all know who Roosy would love to get that is over the age of 27 at the Swans. Push hard Demons!

So their 'A' players are off limits but they want to off load an 'older' B' player who at 27+yo is probably past his prime, for a high 1st rnd pick?

No thanks!!

I think he is referring to Josh Kennedy who is definitely an A grader.

Agree Dom, Kennedy is an A grader but next year he turns 28.

There aren't many A graders of that age who continue A grade performance if not surrounded by equivalent players.

Our players aren't at that level (yet) and by the time they are the JK's of the world will be well past their prime.

Not sure using a high 1st rnd pick for a player who gives us 2-3 good years is very good value.

The thing is...get a player like Kennedy in and he'll give you probably 4 good years of high grade footy.

Our own developing players start to come into the mix and you rely less and less on the imports but as you become a better team it actually becomes easier to keep topping up on good players as youre seen as a good place to play footy.

its a process..an evolution

It's a hard one. We see guys like Sam Mitchell, Hodge, Harvey all playing career best footy well into their 30's. Of course there is a lot of other players who start to struggle as soon as they are 30.

We could possibly get 5 very good seasons from him, which you are never guaranteed from a draft pick.

Edit: Plus with free agency now we just need to make top 8 with our promising youngsters and we will find lots of other players will want to join. We just need to get into that 5-10 range and it will be so much easier to attract other players.

i'll say it... wouldnt want Franklin

I don't think that Sydney could afford to get rid of Franklin. I imagine they would have to subsidise his pay for 8 years? And that would remain in their salary cap. No one else would match Franklin's Sydney contract on damaged goods. I'm with you Beeb, pass on Franklin. I would take Tippet or Reid.

Interesting. I voted for Josh Kennedy on the 'big fish' thread - this is more a pipe dream than reality though. Look at his game against Freo and tell me he's not worth two first round picks. 28 or not the guy is one of the best going around; whether, its 3,4,5 or 6 years he has left in him - he is elite. Big bodied, good in the air, kicks goals and a clearance machine - I just can't see the Swans wanting to trade him regardless of the talent coming through.

Was the Franklin deal the most ridiculous and damaging list management move in recent memory? They signed him for nine years and he looks (somewhat) cooked after two.

Sydney have, potentially, done everyone else in the league a favour. If Buddy continues to be a flop and it hurts the Swans financially through their salary cap then there are 17 other clubs who won't make the same mistakes they have.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
