Delistings/trades at end of the season

Recommended Posts

Just on Tom Lynch of the Gold Coast variety, he's out of contract at the end of 2016. Be interesting to see how his contract situation plays out if GC have another poor year next year. Along with Prestia considered to be one of the leaders at GC.

Ollie Wines another OOC at the end of 16.

Imagine if we had two Tom Lynch's... how would the commentators and supporters handle it? We'd have to resort to the old, 'Go, number 40!'.

Just listening to sen and they said Melbourne really into Tom Lynch (24 yo)from the Crows.

He wants 3 years, they want 2.

Of course its idle talk at this stage but I wouldn't mind him as our 2nd tall forward.

He kicked 33 in 2013 then Viney broke his jaw in 2014, and he had a neck fracture later in the year.

Great replacement for Dawes!

He would have played with Goodwin (and Vince) so they may be working their connections.

Tom Lynch never played with Goodwin.

Was one of Watts' best mates from juniors, but not reall similar players.

Was drafted by St Kilda in 2008 and went to Adelaide at the end of (I think) 2010.

Good 3rd tall, probably a better option than Dawes.

Kicked 10 against GWS last year or the year before.

Will be ok once he wakes up from the hit Viney put on him.

Doesn't have amazing awareness, but great courage.

Like a shorter less unco Kozschitzke.

Would much prefer the GoldCoast version, but that would never happen. Star.

Edit: chaser already said a fair bit of this.

Mentioned on AW tonight that We are heavy into Myers from Essendon. Roos likes him, think this might be the second time we have had a crack.

You are correct we were heavily into him when Roos signed up.

Will his body hold up??

That would be my concern.

Has played the 1 game this year, has only played 10+ games in a year 3 times in 8 (with a best of 20 in 2013).

Wouldn't want to give up all that much, his durability raises a few flags for mine.

Had good years in 2013 & '14, long, left foot kick, big bodied winger who can win his own ball, can turn it over a bit when he's not on.

Rohan Connolly did a nice piece on him last year:

I think there is a bit more to the way Howe played against Collingwood.

On Eddy's commentary hardly rated a mention re: like to have him, coming or going etc.

Howe played well . Backed into a few packs, took some real pressure marks. Did what he's supposed to do.

My opinion, could end up there or could start to negotiate. We'll see.

I guess someone listened to that absolutely disgraceful drivel but it should not be referred to as commentary. Barracking. Bagging. But never commentary. I must have missed it as I turned the sound off.

Little bemused by the bashing of Grimes earlier in the thread. For the games he has been involved in this year he has been more than serviceable:

  • Disposal efficiency 85.9% - this sits well above the top league average.
  • 13th on Melbourne's list for average clangers per game.
  • 3rd for rebounds from 50.

If Myers was cleared.. Would you trade Howe for him??

There's little point considering hypotheticals that won't occur. He won't be cleared, if at all, until long after this year's trade period. After botching so many draft picks over the years, the last thing we need to do is start making risky gambles on what few commodities we have. Every trade must be nailed.

Myers? Why Myers?

Such a strange target.

Like you Mach, I'm surprised. At his best Myers is pretty good, but he is rarely on the park. Averages around 10 games a year over close to 8 seasons, and only one senior appearance so far in 2015. Maybe Goodwin likes what he has seen, and he certainly fits the bill as a Roos type mid (tall, good pace with a raking left foot). However, we'd need to be confident about his durability and positive about any Essendrug fallout, before I'd have any more than a passing interest in him. No doubt if the story about our interest is true, the good judges at the MFC will have these issues front and centre.

This is the problem with stats, an errant handball to a team mate who is under pressure then gets tackled and we lose the ball. This goes down as an effective disposal to Grimes then goes down as a clanger or ineffective disposal to the team mate.

When in reality it is Grimes' mistake.

And I'm sure that the player he replaced (Salem) has a worse stat line. That doesn't change the fact that Salem has far more impact on the game than Grimes. Grimes hasn't been awful this year, but for us to improve, we need more creative players in the backline. Grimes and Garland are neither creative nor lock-down backmen, and both need to be replaced.

Myers is contracted till the end of 2016 and will become a free agent. I could see Essendon letting him go for our second round pick. I think the risk of suspensions is low given the evidence is so circumstantial. He is a prototype modern midfielder with a huge kick.

Enlighten me which current Melbourne player doesn't make this same mistake every game?

That is not what I am commenting on. You are defending Grimes with stats and I am saying that you must interpret stats with a grain of salt, sometimes the whole salt shaker.

But I do agree with you, there are more people in the side that do do this as well.

I don't know what it is, but whenever Grimes gets the ball in hand I cringe. His disposals are either a complete stuff up or non-theatening, (eg a 45 degree kick to the wing)

Whereas, Howe shanked some kicks on the weekend, but the ones he gets right are dangerous and/or are through the corridor.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
