Adds another element to future season support as Should the MFC trade its first 2016 pick to GWS for a player, GWS will have a view on where the MFC will finish (i.e. the value of this first pick), and will be hoping we finish as low as possible, and suffering if we were to bounce up the ladder (reducing the value of their pick).

Whole new dimension of strategy required by all clubs in order to manage and profit from this new element.

Fascinating. I wonder if Roos had an inkling this rule would be passed for this year? Is this how he intends to get this A+er into the club? I'd use our 2016 first rounder for Prestia if we really like someone in the draft this year.

Not with protected picks.

Picks will likely be top 5 or top 10 protected, more often than not.

Can you simply trade for picks?

Eg. Hawks think they are travelling very well, they trade their first and second round pick this year to Port for their first two picks next year.

That would give Port a good influx of talent now when they need it and then Hawks would have 4 early picks next year.

I know that next years talent is suppose to be better. I'm just using this as a potential scenario.

Yes the article wasn't exactly clear about a few details. It appears there are certain safeguards for clubs trading away all their next years early picks - but isn't clear on whether a club can trade both its first round picks in the same trade period. It certainly introduces a further dimension of risk into the trade - but chance favours the prepared and I feel my confidence in our recruiting team now is a lot more justified than it has been in the past.

Howe? There seems to be a gap between his view of his worth to the team, and his actual worth to the team. Suspect he has a greedy manager who's giving him bad advice.

Would trade him for a first round pick or a really decent midfielder, but nothing less.

Why do you think he's more important to hold onto when compared to someone like Frawley? Regardless of the different levels of compo.

Reason he is worth more then suckling and motlop is because he is a good utility. Supply and demand comes into play and their are always alot more midfielders on the market then their are decent utilities who can play both forward and back.

I understand it's the nature of the competition, supply and demand, they train hard, put their bodies on the line and yadda, yadda, yadda.... But seriously, $600k p/a, that's a shiteload of dosh! Has the competition grown too big too fast, is there too much money involved, are we expecting too much from young men?
