AFL: Blues won't rule out seeking a priority pick

And the games begin...

Round 3 they declare they are rebuilding,

Round 8 sack their coach,

if it were the MFC we'd be up for 1/2 million dollar fine for not Tanking..

what's the best with fitzpatrick as chairman they get it?

Carlton are going to be struggling a long time like the Dees. With free agency these clubs at the bottom need extra assistance. I think whether its extra draft picks or extra salary cab allowance it needs to be used to get existing players. For instance a mid first round pick is granted to a club and they need to trade it for existing plater/players. Just drafting kids isn't going to achieve anything with the age of their list.

I think Carlton would do better in FIFA than the AFL. Those brown paper bags that Carlton uses would come in handy indeed.

I am absolutely certain that they will (a) not come under scrutiny for "their rebuild method", referred to in the case of another club as tanking, (b) will get "more generous consideration" in any PP discussion and © get a favorable draw in particular as far as times and venues, all under Fitzpatrick's supervision.

As the poster above mentioned, think FIFA and Blatter and Visy paper bags, and special deals on outside payments for special players, and of course the old AFL catch cry, "the integrity of the game"!

I watched a couple of quarters of the Sydney game.

I thought the Blues worked very hard and the result was quite respectable considering there top four players were out.

The MFC in this same situation would have lost by 20 goals.

If Carlton got a priority pick I think we'd be entitled to ask some very serious questions,

Mfc has won 40 games in 8 years not played finals in a decade

Carlton played in a semi final two years ago

every one falling on deaf ears too !

Until theres a Dee at head office we're a second class citizen in this league !!

No organisation could possibly be so hypocritical.

Sigh, who are we kidding.

By overlooking MFC for PP last year, I thought the powers to be (AFL) were setting themselves up for a fall.

Given that Carlton were always going to be worse this year - than we were last year.

Now the AFL will be placed in a difficult situation. Because to allocate Carlton a PP would be seen as playing favorites.

Especially when MFC was fined 500k for tanking, and Carlton were the most obvious tankers in the history of the game.

Why should Carlton get a PP? Why should other teams be slotted back a spot in the draft because Carlton mismanaged their list.

In the past 5 years Carlton have traded out Sam Jacobs, Shaun Grigg, Eddie Betts, Jarrod Waite, Jeff Garlett, and mismanaged and traded out Brendon Fevola.

On top of trading in Henderson, they also got a decent pick for Fevola - which they used on Kane Lucas. They failed to develop Lucas.

Sounds like MFC all over again for Carlton. We didn't get a PP, neither should Carlton.

The AFL has absolutely no shame. They WILL play favourites. They are hypocrisy personified after all !! This is the same AFL that allocated Carlton all these Friday night games when any idiot could see they were going to be next to useless this year.

They'll work some way out to hand the Blues some distinctly favourable picks

The AFL are as corrupt as FIFA in my book.

and not forgetting that carlton had previously been given THREE pps AND despite that still got into their current position

so, considering everything they would odds on to get a pp

Yes they actually hit in harder than I've seen this year. Looks like they weren't behind Mick for quite a while. Not comparing MM to MN but the lack of fight this year reminded me of 2012/2013 under him.

MM has really left them in a pickle though. I got the impression he wanted to replicate another mini Collingwood with their heavy combative style and up the line play with the aim to extract and move up the field from each consecutive stoppage. In the process he seemed happy to let go of many of their outside runners and playmakers up forward.

I would hate to be a new coach taking this list over as he didnt manage to create an effective MM style mid field and now they dont have their outside/forward playmakers/runners either.

Having said that, I'm sure they will eventually resurrect themselves from the mire within a decade or so. Im not as confident that we will unless we replace our NQRs with real AFL footballers.

What was our record for the last 8 years.

The PP is dead.

I believe there was a bloke called Lazarus played for Carlton so dont be so sure there Red..Its only dead for us !!

where do you think Fee Fi Fo Fum got it from.

very hard for an old ex pies coach to get the players inline, when the coach is being undermined by sections of club, from day one. the players were well in the loop resisting 'old malty' from day dot.

they got him to upset jock mchales record & e'd, & the pies; then they sacked him... they looked to this day since before the end of last season. they were on a planned rebuild from early to mid last season, & so obviously they new then, that the old coach doesn't have enough years or patience, to do the rebuild. they planned early last year to get Silvagni back, & the next plank was malthouse, but not til they took the coaching record in the blues name, first.

make no mistake, the blues are nothing if not schemers. & if they haven't brown paper bags at their disposal, they will use any other underhanded method they can. its in their DNA.

No team has deserved a Priority Pick more than Melbourne in 2013. If the AFL refused one then, they should never give one. It is unlikely they will give one to Carlton this year, but they will be desperate to give one to their vanity project on the Gold Coast. Of course, by knocking back Melbourne in 2013 and Carlton in 2015, it will make it very hard for them to give one to Gold Coast in 2016. Not that rank inconsistency has ever bothered the AFL.

The secret formula supposedly revolves around "extraordinary circumstances" but watch the AFL make a case that the Suns are an extraordinary circumstance.

If Carlton get a priority pick, I'd be up for Peter Jackson blowing up AFL house.

Seriously, the nerve of that club!

So...

...what's your Point?

Another 4 points who cares.

On a lighter note, 17 clubs would work although can't work out new name other than Melbon...

According to the Hun Daisy has an option in his favour for a 5th year. Carlton fans must've choked on their Weaties this morning.

Its a long way back for the Blues. Its "Old Carlton" I fear for. Carlton is the only team he knows!

I have this feeling in the Pit of my gut that the Blues might actually beat us back into being a decent team.

Richmond were well behind us and went pass us with not too much trouble the Blues may well do the same.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
