Changes for Next Week

Featured Replies

out: JKH, Watts, McKenzie

in: Jetta, Dawes, Riley

These changes would be ideal, dont think Jetta will be ready though.

I have it on authority that Jetta has been asked to rest for more than 1 week.. 6 concussions suffered since Xmas has doctors saying a 6 week break might be better. Jetta though reportedly wants only 1 week off. It's a fine line.

6 concussions since Xmas????????

Watts started to season well, we all got excited at the thought of it finally clicking with him. No such luck.

He needs a run in the VFL if nothing else to show the rest of the squad what happens when you don't play your part in the side. OP had it in one as long as Salem, Dawes, and Jetta get up for next round.

Jordie Mac, sorry to say you just aren't up to it anymore. I will say this though, Roos rarely brings a player in for one game. Wouldn't shock me if he gets another week, I just don't know who else would go out.

OUT - WATTS

Yawn...I've just been in 3 threads and heard the same old thing from you HH.

We get it, we really do..

If thats the case then take the 6 weeks off.

Health is first priority.

Admittedly I spent the first half in the blazer bar watching the fight but I would like to see Watt's tackle count today before dropping him. I thought I saw him stick a couple. From reading all the training reports that is the area of his game they are really working on. If he is improving on that we have to keep him in. We know he uses it well when is and running.

Sounds like you had a bit to drink as well .....

Can't be bothered reading the whole thread.

Grimes looks lost and lacks confidence. If you were upfield from him, you would not know what to do or where (or whether) to run..

MacKenzie must be a great bloke. But he wouldn't get a regular game at Carlton (my new benchmark for mediocrity).

Wondering why they don't play through Watts more when he creates options. Do his team mates trust him in a tight contest?

Newton poor today but still has credits. Vanders a steal at whatever we paid. Thought Michie was OK enough in the first half.

How was the first quarter umpiring btw?

Viney was listed as 2-3 weeks just a couple of days ago. Given our conservative approach with injuries there's 0 chance he will play v Sydney.

Hence that guy five posts ago who said he spoke to Viney today and is another week away.

Oh right sorry, silly me going by Misson's report rather than some guy's report....

We have lost a top 22 player each game since the seasons start. We don't have the depth to cover this, fair enough but why don't the top sides have a similar attrition rate? Of course the Dorks had a few injuries last year but in the end had a full and refreshed list for the finals, timing is everything for the top sides, for the lower sides there is no such saving grace. We are suffering big time at the moment and likely to lose Salem for next week with concussion.

If Jordie plays next week I'll consider the 2 hour drive in or to sit on the couch with the fire going.

Absolutely the worst skills ever to play the game at that level.

All we need is Salem out, Bail in, throw in M Jones for some one and the good Ol days will be back.

Think I will just watch on TV next week after a good dinner out after today's effort. We just are not in the hunt against the top teams.

Well, like most here, you can resort to default position and blame JW.

OUT: McKenzie, Salem (concussion)
IN: Riley, Fitzy

Fitzy to play on Tippett and maybe some backup ruck.

Grimes and Watts get one more week I think, let's not be too reactionary as our coach won't.

Going by our fitness manager's assessment Viney and Jetta won't be ready, and you'd think Dawes would be touch and go.

Can't read through all of this for sanity preservation purposes, but everything about McKenzie playing today was bizarre. Why play him if he's going to wear the green vest? To come on and tag someone for a quarter or two? I was puzzled by his inclusion on Thursday but assumed Roos had some master stroke tagging role for him, but alas. Strange stuff.

With Salem out in the second half, we pretty much played that half without 8 of our best 25 or so players (Viney, Salem, Jetta, Dawes, Kent, Trengove, Frost and Petracca). Outside of the top 25 or so, we've got a handful of players I hope can be good in the future (Gawn, Toumpas, Stretch, ANB, McOz), a few who we know what we'll get from and won't be around in a couple of years (Bail, M Jones, McKenzie, Terlich, Fitzmagic), and a couple I don't hold out much hope for but probably need to be given a chance this year (Michie, Riley).

If the side is going to be depleted like today and players are going to come in from the Casey side to play random roles, I'd rather they be from the first group.

Oh right sorry, silly me going by Misson's report rather than some guy's report....

Viney told me 1 week at training as well, didn't look hampered at all in his running, have a look at the pic on my twitter

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
