Makes you wonder where Pedo sits amongst the playing group. Never see him gettibg amonst the banter between the players on social media or any social activities.

Personally see him as bit of a loner but who knows

You can only judge on what you see though.

Towards the end of his first year at the club there was a bit of a rumour going around that he wasn't very well liked by a lot of his team mates, but i think these days he's pretty respected.

Really? Any reason why?

Then again alot of those players were just disgruntled at the time and im now guessing most are all gone.

Not sure of the reasons mate, i think there would have been a fair bit of frustration from everyone involved at the losses going on.

really glad he's held his spot though, he's been serviceable since.

The NBA are doing it that way. Salaries that are agreed will not increase with the cap - this is why LeBron James has been signing one year contracts for the last two years so he gets the maximum possible each year (the cap in the NBA is about to jump from $58m to around $91m).

I think the AFL will do something similar to the above.

So that means that I don't think it is wise to have an agreement with 1 player about their salary being a percentage of the cap when other players won't have that luxury.

I also don't think we should be trailblazers by giving all our players a bump if other clubs are not forced to - it will give other teams a competitive advantage over us to suddenly have $3m in cap space.

How will we pay the mandatory 95% of the cap if we don't bump up player salaries in line with the increase? NBA salary doesn't have a floor does it?

Heard he had similar issues at North. But also heard he worked nights at Bunnings while on their rookie list to make ends meet for his family so you can't judge someone on hearsay alone I guess.

We have to keep him to he's a FA I'm not disclosing sources but he's very keen to play along side Petrecca he's not going anywhere if he bags 65 this year he can ask what he pleases and rightly so he's been here since he was 17 why would he sign a contract to the end of 2017 there's a reason for that.

Apparently Karl Langdon said on 6PR last night he is a lock to come back to WA and it is just a question of the end of this year or next.

OMG - Karl Langdon said so, therefore it is true :-((( :o

The NBA does have a salary floor...in the event that a team falls under the floor, teams are mandated to pay out the gap evenly to the players on the roster.

It's not a 95% number though.

Rather than focus on Lloyd or on Brereton's criticism of Hogan perhaps we should focus on Carey's sage advice (pasted below):

______________________________________________________________

AFL great Wayne Carey has defended Jesse Hogan after the Melbourne key forward's lacklustre start to the season attracted some fierce criticism.

Hogan has divided opinion sharply among some of the best key forwards in AFL history after only kicking one goal in Saturday's upset loss to Essendon.

Last year's Rising Star winner also was having a quiet day in round one, before he helped spark the comeback win over GWS with three last-quarter goals.

Former Essendon full forward Matthew Lloyd savaged Hogan on Monday, calling the 19-year-old's body language in the opening two matches horrific.

Another former key forward great, Hawthorn star Dermott Brereton, accused Hogan of being non-competitive when the ball went to ground in the Bombers game.

But Carey, the two-time North Melbourne premiership captain and an all-time great centre half-forward, said Hogan should be cut some slack.

"You have to remember, this kid's 19 - he's played 22 games," Carey said on Seven's Talking Footy.

"And with the body language ... I think Jesse Hogan gets really disappointed with himself more so than he does (with) teammates.

"If he's not playing well - and he hasn't had a great start to the season - I just see that he gets really down.

"Now, can he improve that? Absolutely."

Carey noted that Hogan has put off contract talks with Melbourne until the end of the season, amid growing speculation about whether he might stay at the Demons long-term.

"Let's not forget, he's just a kid and the expectations and the talk around contracts and all sorts of stuff - how's this kid meant to handle all that at just 19?," Carey said.

"I think he'd like to be told how he's going - what he's doing right, what he's doing wrong.

"He's a very proud young player who's set a pretty high standard already.

"I think it's more about him rather than his teammates doing something wrong."

Melbourne onballer Bernie Vince added that players up the ground were not doing Hogan many favours with how the ball had been delivered to him so far this season.

"I'd be pretty frustrated, too ... we just need to get it in better, it's probably our fault," Vince said.

Two years of this [censored] we will have to put up with, unless he re-signs at seasons end

Personally i think he is gone. Whether its this year or 2017 either way i just think his heart is set back at being home.

Whats interesting is that if he does go it would want to be one hell of a compensation trade!

Thats the scary part -  we wont be compensated fairly, and a perennial top 4 team will be gifted a young superstar.

So in other words its business as usual in AFL land.

If he is going, then the quicker the better so we can sort out our forward line and future  direction with more clarity and certainty.  We can't put up with the ever increasing rumours and speculation along with his petulance. So far this season he has been one huge distraction.  A trade on the cards at end of season.

Sorry if it's been mentioned somewhere already but Sam (if that's his name?) "Scoop" McClure brought that up on Talking Footy last night. Apparently he hates it in Melbourne and has his mind fixed on a move back to WA, be it this year or next. His mail was from the same radio host in WA who apparently broke the news that Woosha was the next coach of the Bombers. I've never heard of this McClure fellow but he looks like a sleazy, untrustworthy little slimeball (read: journalist) so I didn't think too much of it.

My guess is the writer of that article also caught McClure's segment on Talking Footy and this is his Chinese Whisper. But I'm an MFC supporter and a pessimist by nature so I've always thought Hoges would leave eventually.

i was called a troll the other day for thinking he was gone . i cant see how you could see it any other way. people will refuse to see it but watch his training presser again. the discomfort he had at that line of questioning was palpable. he has put off talks. CBA excuse is bollocks, lynch just resigned as have many others. if he didnt want distractions then he wouldve wanted to be signed up before the season starts, he misses Perth. connect the dots

I really don't know what to think just yet, and will try and hold off on speculating if only to keep myself sane for the next two years. However if Hogan leaves, that would be so Melbourne. Our first potential superstar in decades gone, just like that.

I will not hesitate to leave a paper bag of [censored] on the doorstep of AFL house. They have created this self-righteousness that so many young players have when it comes to their contracts and dictating where they want to play.

Posted

No wonder he is struggling on field.  Just look at the scrutiny the poor bloke cops.  He still has 44 more games to play before his contract is up and he's already copping it.

We've got short memories too.  Everyone, even Jesse himself, have said that he loves it in Melbourne and has no real interest in going home.  Yet we believe journo's instead.  I know the Scully fiasco has tainted our thinking here, but we need to get behind the big fella and trust in the club to get things done.

We'll be right.

It's just a regurgitation of what Langdon said over here last week during his radio program, basically word for word. When Langdon said it no one took it seriously, I wouldn't look into or lose any sleep over this either.

Anyway, any "under the table" deal is irrelevant if Freo can't offer up anything of substantial value, and if they can't, I highly doubt he'll go into the draft unless one of Freo or WC are last.

Boyd was traded to the Bulldogs for Griffen and pick 6.

Hogan will have played 60 games and kicked 100+ goals.

I don't think Fremantle fans "get" it.

If we lose him, we'll most definitely getting something of significant value in return, and I don't think it would be high draft picks. Unless Freo tanks or trades up for other picks or future picks, it'll be very tough for him to get to Freo. No way Melbourne rolls over like GWS and accepts a 30-year-old and pick 6.

I know I'm biased but you'd think it's in Hogan's best interests to re-sign, and re-sign as soon as possible. Starting to think the CBA has nothing to do with it. He could sign now and score himself $800k a year from 2018.

Exactly.

The best thing to do is to put these sort of articles to the side.  One day you'll have someone saying that have a 'source' that tells them he is going home, the next day someone else is piping up saying he loves it in Victoria and is a dead cert to re-sign.  The cycle will just continue over and over again.

Agreed, MFC will not accept two picks between 10-18 for Hogan

we will say Fyfe, or Neale and a couple of picks or something like that!

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
