Duggan - 23 possessions (8 contested, 56% DE), 4 tackles, 8 inside 50s, one behind, 2 goal assists

McCarthy - 12 disposals (5 contested, 75% DE), 6 marks (1 contested), 1 tackle, 2 inside 50s, 4 goals 1, 1 goal assist (on Cheney)

Hogan - 21 disposals (9 contested, 57% DE), 9 marks (2 contested), 1 tackle, 1 inside 50, 3 goals, 2 goal assists (on Roughead)

It has to be Hogan this week. McCarthy is unlucky he hasn't had one yet though, but it's only a matter of time

Its a shame they don't count the number of times a player goes up with the pack and brings the ball to ground. Hogan did that many times (as he has in all his games), to make a contest and give teammates a chance to score.

Hogan would win this week, hands down!

I would like to see him get one just to see his beaming smile!

You know, the one that lit up when Hulk Hogan had him in headlock. :)

I reckon Vandenberg will get it.

don't care if he gets it or not

one of the biggest assets in the entire comp and he's ours

Spot on. In other years I would desperately hope for a nomination. With Hogan I don't care. We know he is special nomination or not.

McCarthy

Not too fussed. Yes, Hogan was more deserving this week but there's no doubt he'll be nominated at some stage this year. Chances are that he'll win the bloody thing too regardless.

Fkn Rigged.

Your signature ? Did hogan really say that ? Haha.. Where was this reported ?

Nothing's been announced, but given our track record with rising star nominations, could care less if Hogan remains unrecognised. It just gives him ammunition to prove everyone wrong.

It is correct.

Does anyone know where I can find statistics on distance travelled during the game against WB for Hogan, would love to compare that to McCarthy...

Clubs keep that information very close to their chests apparently, to mask potential injuries or poor form.

12 possessions, 6 marks and 4 goals beats 21 possessions, 10 score involvements, 9 marks and 3 goals?

Well then, it may be time to pay a visit to AFL house.

And for christ's sake, he was playing on Kyle Cheney.

The bugler could've kicked four on Cheney.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.

The Demons lacked some polish but showed a lot of heart and took it right up to the Bulldogs in an attempt to spoil their finals hopes ultimately going down by a goal at the MCG.
