Changes for Round 2

No change. Settle the team. Unless GWS match ups or injury demand a change, my view is keep Vince and Dawes hungry at Casey.

Vince and Dawes, two people you'd have in there in a micro-second, and I'm struggling to get them in there. I think Vince will come in for Toumpas, he's just that millimetre off so many times. Handballs, kicks, pace. Just slightly off, unfortunately that's all it takes. I think patience will have us rewarded with him, but it does mean he will have to fight to get in and retain a spot in the side.

Maybe Frost comes out for Dawes, that is the only person I can think of! This is a good problem to have!

Anyone else notice that Dawes, having said he would play the VFL practice game yesterday, didn't play. Wonder if that is the coaching panel saying: 'you are suspended, so you are so suspended' to drive home the message about behaviours and leadership...

As for him playing next week...the question isn't whether he should/shouldn't. It is whether there is a role for him? Yes, he plays. No, he doesn't.

I'm split with who he would replace.

The main reason I would bring him in is to draw another tall, main defender and take the pressure off Hogan and the other forwards.

He was suspended of course he didn't play hes not allowed to.

Apparently, VFL practice games are like NAB practice games so don't count. Happy to be corrected.

My bad, for some reason I thought it was the real VFL Round 1

You could be right HH about not being allowed to...just read in the Casey vs Coll thread that Dawes didn't get the required permission- whether that wasn't from VFL/AFL or our coaching panel, not sure.

One of the worst posts I've seen. Hang your head.

You are clearly not familiar with the work of ENYAW or Stuie.

I have a thing against battlers who wreck the ball and miss straightforward hand passes .

He is a great tackler and tagger but I'm over the scrubbers.

I'm over the mess.

The mistakes

And the loss of nearly every centre bounce and throw in.

We are still a very weak midfield .

One look at the Bulldogs mids will show you w hy they moved him on.

It's ugly watching him.

We are still extremely average.

We nearly lost yesterday on the errors of him and Toumpas.

If we need this 34 year old in our line up the year is wasted.

vince and dawes for toumpas and kent. brayshaw as sub.

Why do people wanna drop Kent? he almost got knocked out in the first few minutes and spent a quarter on the bench then came on to do some beautiful things

He stays, hes way to good and dangerous to drop and hes way too good for VFl level

Unfortunately, JKH may be the unlucky one. He did some good things, but will miss because 2 senior match winning, leaders are due to come back.

Outs: JKH - Toump

Ins: Dawes - Vince

FB: Jetta - Dunn - Garland

HB: Salem - McD - Howe

C: H.L - Cross - Vince

HF: Watts - Dawes - Kent

FF: Garlett - Hogan - Frost ®

R: Jamar - NJ - Tyson

I: Newton - Vanders - Viney

S: Brayshaw

E: JKH - Grimes - Gawn

Have you watched the replay Biffen?

I too thought we were smashed in the clearances, but if you watch again, we were not.

We even got a few very clear clearances that resulted in goals, as did they. The issue is that we sometimes did rushed, panic possessions, when we have more time. Garlett's goal was a great example of not rushing.

Anyway, to say we are so bad at clearances, and then bag cross, not good enough by you. Look at jones hack out clearances when he has more time, Tyson kicking off the side of the boot backwards in clearances. Cross was not the only mid in there!

And to say Toumpas and cross almost cost us the game, many others made mistakes. Perhaps some of our best players for the day! Watts did two shocking kicks that cost us, McDonald a few of his usual skill errors, the list could go on.

We won, we played well, we have heaps of improvement, but don't bash the same players all the time.

And for my swaps, why no mention of Brayshaw? I was thoroughly impressed by him, but was his first game after no NAB cup. Why JKH and Kent before him in all your opinions?

I would be inclined to leave the team, but that does hinge on how fit Vince is for me.

One problem with this is JKH deserves his spot in the team, he had quite a few very nice goal assists yesterday and doesn't deserve to be dropped.

I'd expect that when the playing committee/coach have difficult choices as to who to drop and who to bring in, the likely opposition line-up is probably a bigger factor in the decision than the relatively emotional factors that have been raised in this thread. That also makes it easier to justify their omission to the players who are dropped.

Wowee. Overdramatise much?

Not sure why you would pick him out for mistakes. Tyson, Viney, Watts etc all made their fare share yesterday. But they still provided solid contributions as did Crossy. He's better than just a tagger, You're singling out the player who had the second most contested possessions on the day.

When the coach and players drill on and on about standards, who do you think is setting them out there? The standard fairy? It's the bloke who fights for the ball like his life depends on it and plays like it means something to wear the jumper. He'll be squeezed out of the side when someone has well and truly earned his spot. That moment hasn't arrived yet.

The "hack" has played a massive role in the revitalistion of your football club. A little respect wouldn't go astray.

that's a bit out there

Ok I'm harsh on Cross.

But I'll be harsh on old players who regularly butcher it.

Toumpas is going to make errors but I can see he can kick a drop punt.

I can't see why anyone could complain about jkh.he has great skills.precision.

Stuie- you may ask about my drug intake for my anti cross tirades .

All I can say is it's still never enough to understand you bro!

Is it disrespectful to question skill errors in a 200 gamer?

I think it's fair enough.

Tbh, I did not enjoy yesterday's game overall.

When we crush a team,as we could have done , I may relax.

I don't want to fall in for a win.

I want us to knock teams out- not just fall in on points.

Obviously we are getting better but I think there is plenty of room to get better.

Is it disrespectful to question skill errors in a 200 gamer?

What were these skill errors Biff? I must admit I didn't see Crossy make too many yesterday.

I agree that he is not the most reliable user of the ball, but using yesterday as an example is off the mark.

lol this Biffen guy is off his trolley

Hes enteratining me though, so not complaining :)

In: Vince, Dawes

Out: Toumpas, Frost

I advocated keeping Toumpas previously, but I can't see who else could go out on that performance. Despite the fumble I still think he's stiff.

Frost for Dawes only on team balance only. It has to be a tall and there are no other candidates. Don't know who rucks for 5 mins per quarter though. Hogan?

I thought Frost was instrumental early in the game. As others mentioned his pressure and tackling was excellent.

Having said that, I have no idea who makes way for Dawes.

Vince for Toumpas is a given.

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
