Two Collingwood Players Test Positive

Let's hope it's not one of ours.

Whilst I hope it's not, if it is then I hope they get what they deserve.

...surely it couldn't be a current player could it?

Rumour has it that two Toms are involved, Hickey & Bell from the Saints & Blues.

Completely unsubstantiated, but apparently they're mates with the other two.

If we don't hear anything for a couple of days, there will be interest in the not selected from round one.

but apparently they're mates with the other two.

'A long-time friend and former housemate of Carlton's Tom Bell and Collingwood's Josh Thomas, Hickey in recent months has added about six kilograms to what was a relatively light 94-kilogram frame.'

Let's be up front here: we ALWAYS think it is one of ours.

Not me. If we've had players on PEDs over the last decade then we're really doing it wrong.

  • 1 month later...

On FC last night Buckley was asked whether Keefe and Thomas had been cut loose by the Club. He weasel worded his way around it

He is my theory:

-Within 48 hours of their positive test to a banned PED' CFC announced it had done an internal process review and found all to be ok.

-The 2 players were not allowed to train or attend at club premises.

-The club is 'supporting' the players but don't seem to be doing anything to help them. That's AFLPA's job.

-Under the anti-doping code if 2 players are found guilty of taking a banned substance the whole team can be outed.

-ASADA would have every legal right to have the ban extended to the whole of Collingwood.

This, I suggest, is why Keefe and Thomas have been cut loose by CFC. Eddie et al are [censored] scarred of ASADA throwing the book at them. ASADA have hard evidence on the 2 players and may just be peeved enough that if they can't get EFC/AFL they may go extra hard on CFC/AFL. ASADA will be no mood to 'talk turkey' with the AFL.

We have all been distracted by ASADA/WADA appeal etc.

If it wasn't for Essendon, the Collingwood case would be on the front page and Eddie would be getting grilled.

Eddie must be ecstatic this morning with the WADA appeal.

Even in our wildest dreams I can't imagine ASADA/WADA getting both clubs but I'm pretty confident they will nail one of them!!

I had completely forgotten about this.

You're right in that it's not getting a lot of play. I think we are still waiting on B Samples?

Why is the testing of the B samples taking so long

Is it another conspiracy? Are the AFL interferring again? Whats the problem?

Ahhhhhhhhhh i see The AFL can only deal with one problem club at a time

Gil is unable to multitask might be the problem> Confidentiality isnt an AFL strong point is it OLD DEE?

This is a disaster for the AFL. The AFL are fast becoming the laughing stock of Australian sport.

Baloney! ever heard of RUGBY LEAGUE ?

miles ahead..

Did Sheedy take them there?

No rjay but he is considering a trip to ensure the right result

Was not so sure they are still leading the team.

How luck are they that Gil turned them down.

She may still be right on Hird.

The 2 player all out idea is a fallacy at worst, or an exaggeration at best.

In the 2009 code it states:

Where more than one team member in a Team Sport has been notified of a possible anti-doping rule violation under Article 7 in connection with an Event, the Team shall be subject to Target Testing for the Event . If more than one team member in a Team Sport is found to have committed an anti-doping rule violation during the Event, the team may be subject to Disqualification or other disciplinary action.
In the 2015 code it states:
If more than two members of a team in a team Sport are found to have committed an anti-doping rule violation during an event Period, the ruling body of the event shall impose an appropriate sanction on the team (e.g., loss of points, disqualification from a Competition or event, or other sanction) in addition to any Consequences imposed upon the individual athletes committing the anti-doping rule violation.
They don't need to ban the whole team. A fine loss of points is all that is needed. Given that the players tested positive in the off season, I suggest there will be no additional penalty.

There were up to 17 AFL players from different clubs at the St Kilda Fest house party.

Jeebers if your info is hot that would really rock the AFL

I Don't think the AFL has any idea how big the party drug scene is....

Ha now you point that out yes. I didn't even notice the connection of the name

Maybe it was his party.....

Probably explains why Eddie declared the club and its processes squeaky clean within a few days of the announcement and isolated the two young kids from the club.

Still believe Eddie is scared that ASADA could invoke the '2 in a team found guilty and the team could be sanctioned rule'...not saying it would be a ban or that a sanction would be imposed. But the possibility has caused Eddie and co to go into self preservation mode.

If it wasn't for the WADA appeal a lot more questions would be asked of Eddie.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
