That viney kick summed it all up im not even going to try defend us with the pre season defence

well where to now melbourne?

Relocate to Tasmania, Get a crap load of top draft picks, Get given 20 Mill a Season by the AFL. Bring on the Premiership Years.

Apart from Our appalling decision making and numerous fumbles. I think they played OK.

it was pretty atrocious.

but it was also only a nab challenge game.

no injuries was the most important thing.

i tipped us to come 18th, and to lose tonight, so quite frankly i'm not remotely surprised.

Well, at least this saves me a 6 hour round trip to Melbourne on Easter Saturday.

Perfect thing for us. A huge wake up call before the season has begun. Roos will go bananas and it will give the team a huge reality check.

Yeah thats rubbish. Struggling to beat a Bulldogs reserves side last week was the wake up. This is the days first coffee.

fark. makes me so angry. I wonder if we will ever get out of this rutt

Not sure whether to laugh or cry.

So I choose drink.

You are another who owes me an apology Nash.

Do u hear that sound ?

Try really hard.

There it is "flush" there goes our season again and my membership money.

doubt it...no one tipped us to lose tonight...

how is it even remotely possible to continue to be this bad for so long has any other team had a rutt as big as this?

My heart says 3rd NAB game, play dees against bombers, and bring in the questionable frees in the last quarter to give the druggies a win and sell some newspapers... But my head says different. Well, time for the long wait for a train, it's always 15 minutes minimum when we play at Etihad.

Today it's 13 minutes... ITS A WIN

Mate as crap as we are. We need to shed the losers mentality. You should be [censored] that we lost. We should go into most games hoping to get the win.

i did.

i told numerous people at work - including an essendon board member - that they would win tonight.

that's how much faith i have in the demons' ability to perform below expectations.

Why not just wait for round one to see how we go??

You really do just have to wonder if there is some kind of intangible brokenness to this team that cannot be repaired.

Essendon is no Melbourne. VFL side or not, they'll turn up. Different club down there at Melbourne Airport.

If fortunes were reverse Melbourne would be guaranteed to lose by 150. Essendon, I'm not so sure. They're too proud.

I expect a close one tbh.

i was phoned on Monday re re-signing: could not do it at the time. Couldn't watch or listen today but certainly not in any hurry now.

thankgod I didnt bother going. cricket more interesting. Cannot believe we lost. The etihad curse has struck again and the worst thing is we go into r1 wihtout our key man in dawes. So Hogan will have to play. How come no one could catch Dalgleish when he was allowed to run the length of the field for that goal.

From where we r coming from Wise we shouldn't need a "reality" check.

I just want the players to stop talking and start DOING ffs. I have had a gutful of bloody talk.

GC will cane us big time.

Well go and don't let the door hit you on the way out, you and others like you are not true supporters!!

What for? The first half wasn't that bad.

Yeah sure Nash, no worries. We were much better in the first.

Some cant see the forest for the trees.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
