I have little doubt a man of Jim's calibre would've gotten over that a long time ago. The fact it is such a sticking point with some supporters is a little weird to me.

The kid could've handled a situation he was totally unprepared for a little better, with smarter people advising him, but ultimately the Scully hate is fine in a theatrical sense but is generally out of whack. I'm so over him leaving, especially considering what we got in return.

Howe's gushing over all things Collingwood since his decision to go there has been embarrassing, and his efforts towards the end of his career at Melbourne even moreoso. Although having watched him in black and white, maybe laziness on the field is just in his DNA.

Anyhow, you have your villain, I have mine. Everybody wins.

Guys like Howe,Goddard,Dal Santo,Griffen,Clark and Scully who ditch their clubs for success deserve a long nose dive.

Lake,Hale,Frawley and Burgoyne got their medals as top ups if we are honest.

BB I don't bring this up, other than to answer another post about the habit of attacking former players, which I don't like, as I said in my post, with one notable exception. I gave my reasons for that and if you don't accept them, so be it.

You were wrong about the first reason you gave for his leaving, our club, it was purely the second, money.

His behaviour was totally different to the three players you named, they were up front in expressing that they could leave. Dangerfield did not go for money, as he was offered more to stay. Ablett and Franklin were offered huge amounts, but their clubs knew they were going and in fact prepared for it.

Our boy lied to us over and over again. As I said he even lied at Sydney Airport, where he said he was just going up for a look around and that afternoon was front and centre of their recruiting, having signed allegedly at the end of his first season with us, while he had a year to go on his contract with us, yet, with a CD already out, showing him in GWS jumper, which clearly had been done a few weeks or months earlier.

I am allowed to dislike the way he treated us. He is the only past player who has gone to another club, that I have booed on the field. That is my right.

I agree it was a massive win for us that he left.

I find your last sentence extremely disappointing and in poor taste.

That aside, hopefully we can catch up again soon, it has been too long.

Whilst I am more than happy with the outcome his behavior was completely different.

In fact the three you mention above actually have one thing in common - they said next to nothing in their final year.  None of them looked down the camera and said - "I want to be a one club player and have an expectation that that will be the case". None of them when straight out asked by the club president stared him down and lied ( in fact Ablett upset Bomber Thompson by refusing to say anything at all about his contract). None of them had their managers on National TV say  "if you are a Melbourne supporter I would have some reason for confidence" ( this was said by Lynch about Scully re-signing) - these comments and more were made after he apparently had already made arrangements to go. 

I have no problem with players moving for fortune or fame and that goes for Scully - I have no problem for players wanting to leave the cesspool of a club that was Melbourne during that time. It is how you do it.

I have moved on. I have no problem with players making lame excuses ( i want to see where the club is headed )  - I have nor problem with a player saying they want to test the FA market and I have no dislike for likes of Rivers, Frawley or Howe - they come they go. I have a problem with flat out liars and whilst I don't lose sleep over Scully I do take joy in him failing.

Just for the record, the items highlighted were all part of the lie. The offer of huge money was made to Scully's connections a year before he left the club and there were lots of stories bandied about to justify his leaving by various people with various agendas. The start and end of the matter was that he was made an offer in October 2010 which he couldn't refuse which had the full backing of the AFL which was eager to get a marquee player for its fledgling club. The AFL made it impossible for Melbourne to match that offer. 

Scully and his connections could have handled the Melbourne end of things a lot better but we as a club cannot be blamed for not matching the ridiculous sum that he was offered - we could never have done so and to his credit Jimmy handled the situation perfectly.

Nor should we have matched it. He wasn't worth it at the time and events since have shown he hasn't earned it at GWS.

It would have thrown out our player payments and caused unrest amongst the other players.

It's one thing to pay a huge salary to an Ablett or a Buddy. But a Scully?

We all loved Howe'y when he was soaring above the packs and taking those great spekkies even if he usually hand balled it off to no avail. We loved him because he made us feel good when we had little to smile about because he was our's. Now he is Their's and the love is gone. But not the memories!!!!

Would have tarnished his brand staying at Melbourne. You've just got to read Red Fox where Norm Smith resented Crompton playing out of position in GF, even though it won us the premiership. I think the club had become a weird place by mid-60's with too much success.

The reason was personal and related to a serious family illness and had absolutely nothing to do with the scuttlebutt mentioned above and which were spread about a long time after the event.
