Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Find another one. Minimum 3 delistings.

I guess those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. I guess not being in a position of authority helps so I don't have to make that third delisting.

Other delistings that may come about may be from someone retiring. Crossy might hang up the boots after this year. Not that I am hoping for that to happen. In fact, the opposite is true! However, it is a possibility.

I dunno I was still able to buy in

Spencer has a 2 year contract in his bag, he doesn't like gum, I offered him some last year at training, (ex smoker/compulsive chewer), he politely declined

Well spotted, Saty.

On a separate point, when we finish one idea and transition to another in English, we use full stops to indicate that said transition has occurred. It's rare and also grammatically inaccurate to just repeatedly put commas in between individual clauses or to finish a sentence without a full stop.

I see someone seems a little bored this morning. I must say it did make me laugh though.

I'm in your camp of 2 years probably isn't long enough but we do need to be a little harsher on timelines concerning player development. I present Trapper and Col (not this one, that joke never gets old or at least it doesn't to me) being exhibit A and Spencil and Jordie as exhibit B. The former two were players who had talent oozing from every pore yet who never lived up to their promise with the latter two being 'project' players with initial glaring weaknesses that were never able to be overcome by them. As said earlier, 2 years is a bit short but how long do we ideally wait? It became a running joke around here that Sylvia would be alright once 'he got a preseason into him'. That joke went on for five bloody years!

On the flipside to that - there were years where Nathan Jones stagnated and people on here wanted to trade him (I wonder how hard it would be to find a thread on that), the club has got some pretty good heads in there now. If they persist, then I am assuming there is something there.

If you're including Jones in this talent group, i must disagree with you. Jones was drafted in 2005 and has had 5 years to develop and mature. He's had plenty of time to show us what he's got, he no longer has 'potential' as he should have reached said level by now, if there were improvement left in him. Too little, too late if we're waiting for Jones to 'fully mature'.

Truish but he was always handy. Not necessarily a top liner as he is now but handy.

Toumpas as yet hasn't fired a shot.

I would say wait until the 3rd year and then when can start to make up our minds. I guess as well the club also sees what he does on a week to week basis. It might be the reason why he stays on and someone like a Cale Morton or a Jordie Gysberts gets moved on.

Trapper more so than Col. Trapper could have achieved more but at least he won a B&F (in a finals year) and a top ten placing in the Brownlow (4th or 5th wasn't it?).

I will have to disagree with you on Col. Talented yes and had some good games but we are finding out the truth about Col's time at Melbourne over in Freo as we speak.

The reason I distinguish Nathan from Trapper and Col is because no one could deny that Nate wasn't trying and there was a chance he hadn't reached his ceiling yet.

To be honest, Jordie and Spencil haven't even proven they are handy yet. Jordie has had some good games as a shutdown specialist but hasn't shown much on the offensive side yet.

Spencil & McKenzie are nothing more than below average and substandard AFL players. I rate TDI's loyalty but as far as I'm concerned this will not change in 12 month's no matter how much better our player development is

Thanks chap, but nobody on here decides, it is down to the Footy Dept, whilst a player is on the list, they will have my support, yes I get as frustrated as the next man at some of the errors during a game, but I move on quickly, that's what so good about footy, another crack

For CFB, that is the way I speak, so therefore you will find a lot of commas in my writing, as basically I am typing as I think, if that's ok with you.

I really struggle to understand what is gained by putting a second year rookie ruckman "on notice". It isn't going to make him get better faster. Just let the kid develop.

To be truthful I struggle with the concept of "on notice" at all. All AFL players are aware of how quickly the end can come and they know if they don't perform they're gone - have a look at Cam Pedersen's comments last year. It's just stupid hyperbole that supporters spew out in order to make themselves feel like hardarses, I think, that has no reflection or relevance to reality.

Further to this - most of us are pretty poor judges of the expectations of the coach anyway.

Reading this site last year and now, Demonlanders are really divided on Rohan Bail. He played 21 games last year so I would suggest that Roos is not divided on him at all.

Nut I will whisper this, Roh Bail was audibly praised three times on Monday by Roos

That is a damning read.

Won't name names, except for Hannabal/Benny. For someone so far up his own backside, it's remarkable how often he got it wrong. He no doubt claims over on BF that he always knew Jones would be a gun :)

Couldn't help myself, and yes I want a medal.

I will make a guess E, and it is purely a guess (ie. no inside info.)

I will prelude this by saying I like Jones and value him a lot higher than some here do.

I reckon there are concerns about his coachability. The issue with Jones is that he hasn't really been able to find that niche between attack and defence. He has an attacking mindset and really only knows one way. When it comes off he looks great, breaks tackles, kicks a neat low pass into an attacking position. When it doesn't come off he gets caught or f**#s up a low percentage kick.

My guess is that the coaches have been trying to get him to temper his attacking nature a little, having failed they have given him a negating role to really drum in the defensive mindset.

I hope we keep him, he is a strong, talented, durable player with good skills (contrary to what some believe). If thinks click he will be a mainstay of a midfield, hopefully ours.

NB. I was exactly the same as Jones as a colt.

I would ask then Saty, Whoey or TDI (or whatever name you want to use this week), as an eloquent, worldly man of letters such as yourself, you would realize that the difference in conventions between written and spoken English are manifold. One difference is that we often use tone and emphasis of voice, pauses and various discourse markers in spoken English to indicate when we are moving to a new topic yet due to the visual nature of English written text, these options are not viable. Therefore, we have to use punctuation markers such as periods, commas, colons, semi-colons and brackets to get through to our readers when we are transitioning between concepts.

I might also say that you shouldn't get all hoity toity and precious when you act like a smart arse when raising someone else's typos/spelling mistakes/lapses of concentration (which, by the way, really doesn't suit you as you end up looking like a goose 9 times out of 10 when you try to follow this path) and then have your own mediocre linguistic ability thrown back at you.

By the way, when you went to Richmond training, did you ask Alex Rance if he was going to stay with the Tiges?

Gee Colin I agree with most of what you say but also support TDI or any other name he may post under.

The written word is as you say a dry exposition of communication which is constantly being dumbed down by new technology.

Unfortunately we are not all as erudite or accurate with finger and brain as we should be. But as Tony Abbott has suggested that we only hold him to account for what he has written and not what he says it would seem that he must certainly be accurate in every written word including tone, emphasis and nuance.

Perception is in the eye or ear of the receiver and this is probably the greatest feature of communication.

If my punctuation or spelling is incorrect and you are uncertain of my meaning a curteous question or comment to clarify is all that is required. I put your above in that context and choose to ignore gratuitous sarcasm which "they" say is the lowest form of wit.

Personally I enjoy it which is why I get so much enjoyment and entertainment from Dland. But poor old TDI must get a tad peeved, even though he does seem to have the resilience of a demon supporter (defeat is character building "they" also so) and does post so much that there is always bound to be contrary opinion expressed poorly or well.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
