We seem to have drafted kids that have a good brain. If their footy matches it we are in good hands.

And thank God we didn't draft that McCartin kid. He looks like a caveman. I hope he spends his first paycheck doing something about those teeth.

I reckon there's three great stories out of this year's draftees:

1. Petracca & Brayshaw, great mates and both drafted to the same club,

2. Stretch & Neal-Bullen, great mates and both drafted to the same club, and

3. Our fifth draftee, McDonald, being drafted to the same club as his brother.

I suppose the first one (Petracca & Brayshaw) was always a fair chance. But, the odds of the other two was pretty remote, especially given both Neal-Bullen and McDonald were expected to go a fair bit earlier in the draft.

To be drafted is clearly a real thrill. To end up at the same club as your good mate must make it even more special!

It's happened a few times before. Jetta & Bennell, and Trengove & Tapscott are a couple of other recent examples. Seems to recall Watts was also good mates with one or both of Blease and Strauss.

Just a bit of a feel good story, I guess.

this is one of those laugh/cry threads

sammy blease and tom scully just like luke tapscott and jack trengove were great mates, that was supposed to translate into good footy for the MFC...somehow (details were fuzzy on how exactly)

if I recall correctly that idiot Bailey actually openly talked about having 'a team of mates' and there were several more examples of this in who we drafted around that time

that worked out brilliantly didn't it (oh wait it worked out so poorly we were one of the worst sides to ever play the game in 150 years)

None of this carp matters. Who they're mates with and where they're from and even what pick they were taken at. It's about developing the players you have properly and having them work hard and play as a unit - this is what the good teams are able to manage and we are not

Just because those players you mention didn't turn out as we hoped doesn't mean that lifelong friends unexpectedly ending up at the same club shouldn't be noted, and indeed celebrated, for their sake.

Will it help them play better football having that familiarity? Not necessarily, but it's still a feel good story. Are basic feel good stories really worth this level of chastisement?
