MFC MEMBERSHIP - SEASON 2015

Featured Replies

Last year I purchased two interstate memberships, one for myself and one for my wife.

I hadn't renewed as yet for a few reasons. We are spending most of the year overseas and my wife is actually a Carlton supporter (I attempted to convert her last season, slowly getting there).

I was surprised to read my bank statement today and found I been charged for 2 adult memberships. When I purchased them last season i never asked for it to be ongoing and it was never mentioned.

I was always going to purchase myself a membership this season, just hasn't gotten to it yet and was yet to decide on which one.

Slightly annoyed at the way the club went about it.

I can't remember it ever coming out automatically.

I had a similar experience. I was excited to renew so logged into my account didn't see any existing or rolling over memberships listed (wasn't expecting there to be either) & signed up again for this year. Then I noticed 2 months later that I was getting charged 2 membership fees a month so called up and they said that it had rolled over etc.

But they were able to fix it straight away which was good :)

Even worse than this, my doggies supporter mate bought a WB membership last season and the club (WB) decided to take $20 out of his account this year without his consent as a donation to the club... Apparently they sent an email the day before saying we are doing this to all Members and if you don't want it to happen let us know (or something like that - when you don't check your email often makes it hard to say no to).. I couldn't believe it.

That's one way to raise money...

Jeez.

Thats a good way to really reward members for joining up, what sort of FW is running the show there. I was going to be automatically signed up this year againg to me and the missus, I sent them an email telling them that I will resign myself once we start winning games.

And I thought my scenario was a little rough. That's terrible.

Lots of great pics of the team (including Roos) working the phones last night https://www.facebook.com/MELBOURNEfc More pics on the twitter section of our mfc home page but I can't get the link to work, sorry.

Here is the link (I think) https://twitter.com/melbournefc

Looks like they signed up another 500 members so our tally should be around 28,750 today. Gawn and Grimes signed up the most.

Great effort by all the guys to put in that time.

ps I wonder if next year it is worth not signing up early so I can get a phone call from one of the team :)

11 March 2015 Approx 28,750

13 March 2014 - 30,000

Hmmm! Wonder if the Family Day had already happened by that time last year. Hopefully we will get a big hit from that on Sunday.

They are going on about wanting 35k members by rd1 but they could have been more if they had organised themselves better with the last intra club match and open training session.

The Open Training session seems to have been a break down in communication between the FD and the Membership/PR Depts. Not just a lost opportunity. Much worse than that. Mystery why they didn't have membership tents at both events. This is when all this counts the most.

Yeah, we have thousands of lapsed members from the last few years - getting them back on board is the priority from what I have heard come from the club - well some of those are going to be at trainings and match sims.

Early wins = memberships (in my opinion 5,000) and if we play an exciting brand of football that people want to watch it could possibly be more, 40,000 members is possible this year. It is all up to the players now

I must have had dejevu status.

I down graded from legend to basic redleg.

and in doing so got rid of all the yearly roll over extras.

No pet membership... and he doesn't miss it.

No money per win.

No money for recruitment.

Gee it's good to have an extra $70 per month in the kick. That's half a tank of petrol.

45,000 members is achievable in 2016, but for 2015, it is important we get as close to 40,000 as possible.

Winning the first 2 games in 2015 is also achievable, which will go a long way to helping us reach 40,000 members.

I had the same thing and was very annoyed by it. I was going to renew anyway, but I select every year that I don't want money taken out of my account as I don't keep the majority of cash in that account and I don't want to be charged expensive overdrawn fees if it happens to be empty.

One way to prevent lapsed members. And also to make them want to cancel their memberships the year after.

Good to see the accounts page is still clunky and horrendous by the way. I've been directed there to get my interstate tickets to a game and as yet haven't worked out where the hell to get them. My membership doesn't even show up there, just directs me to a link to sign up for one. Ridiculous.

Is that the generic ticketmaster page? If so it is the same for all clubs/AFL memberships and yes it is [censored] terrible. The AFL really needs to sort their (and their affiliate partners) online pages out the AFL/Telstra/Ticketmaster websites are like something straight out of 1997.

I heard a discussion on sen a week or 2 ago, discussing reasons for poor carlton membership. Plenty of unimpressed supporters rang up with stories way worse than anything I have read on here.

We will barely get past 32k by Rd 1. We won't reach the desired 35k.

If they want 40k this season, they might want to win a couple of games...

looks like we might reach our ambitious target of 30,000 by round 1 !! :P

over 29,000 now.

Wasn't it our ambitious plan to reach 35k by round 1?

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
