It sums it up when rather than try to make it back to top level football by going to the vfl or back home to the SANFL he's taken the easy life of playing amateurs for the coin on offer.

It would seem to me that he probably never had the wherewithal to make it at afl level in the first place.

I was in the room when Vlad read out "pick 18, Melbourne, player 123456, Luke..."

And I got all excited thinking you little ripper, we've called collingwood's bluff, and we are picking a top class talent who is ready to go and that we have the coin to pay.

And then it was Tapscott not Ball.

Shame.

What a first rate crap post. Who are you to judge a player for the life decisions he makes after his football career has gone down the dunny?

Sooner or later all footballers have to recognise that the dream is over. Some recognise that their body is not up to it, or just plain don't want to spend the next few years flogging themselves physically and mentally for the 0.001% chance they might make it. It's their life and calling it the "easy option" and just makes you sound jealous and bitter.

Yes, AFL football is not the be-all and end-all of human existence. There is life before it, life after it, and life instead of it.

Some people play football to enjoy the game and they feel they don't need it to sustain themselves.

Just calling it as I see it.

He wanted to be picked up as a rookie, but when he's not he's clearly decided that the ammo life rather than the hard graft of battling away in SANFL, vfl is the way to go.

He's clearly decided his time as a potential afl player is over.

It's a shame.

He wanted to be picked up as a rookie and in all likelihood would have been if he did not suffer another injury. Unfortunately he did. His potential as an AFL player was not killed but rather the hope of his body holding up to the rigour and demands of an AFL player were. I wish him well at Sorrento.

Got in just before me 'Wrecker'...agree.

How is that back peddling?

He didn't make it and to me it seems that he now doesn't want to try.

We should've picked Ball.

I've read your initial post and compared it with your later one. in my opinion, your first is significantly more pejorative in style, hence my suggestion you were back pedalling. However, if you say you weren't I accept in good faith that you weren't. Others can make up their own minds.

Having played against Sorrento, I can assure you it is not part of the VAFA (Amateurs) Comp - they are the reigning Nepean League premiers - perhaps he wants to be part of a 'winning' team?

How can you base that judgement based on the fact he has signed to a lower level. Unless he told you first up he never had the mindset right from the very start then I think its an unfair pot shot at tappy.

Before a kid is drafted they have completely no idea what the real rigors and pressure of the AFL system. Its such a huge adrenaline and excitement when you get drafted its pretty much full steam ahead. But sometimes it really sucks the excitement out of you. It is not what they expect, fame and the public eye most times plays a huge role in this plus the every day mentality strength.

Maybe Tappy is happy with his new lease of life? Maybe he just didn't want to deal with all the pressure and scrutiny that went with it.

All I know is when Tappy pulled on the jumper he gave it a red hot go. Injuries really played a big part in his career. But im sure he tried his guts out to make a career out of it.

Good luck tappy.

Anyone watch his game against port in round 18 at the Adelaide oval?

He actually showed a point of difference that day and perhaps another year of perseverance warranted.

i can recall him kicking a 55 mtr set shot goal, then follow it up with a bone crunching bump at the following centre bounce, which directly resulted in a JKH goal. His field kicking was good and provided a decent high half forward target. Compare that to Blease who ran around like a headless chook.

We could've kept Tappscott and got rid of Terlich and I don't think anyone would've noticed.

I do concede though that his long history of injuries probably cost him though and fair enough.

He will have more freedom now to deliver his trademark hits without saturation TV scrutiny. Just hope he doesn't snap in two in the process.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
