Pick 3 Compensation Confirmed for Frawley

GOTTA LOVE FREE AGENCY TANKING !!!

Well if we thought Jones was gonna leave next year and at round 18 we were competing for bottom spot, I bet we'd think twice about winning more games so we can secure pick 1&2.

Charming competition we got!

If we did a normal trade (ie team to team) and they offered #3 for him we'd sign before they'd finished speaking.

Thanks for the memories Chip. Enjoy Box Hill.

Yes it would cancel out our compo. So we will give mal a wide berth methinks.

What I don't get is

Let's say we trade pick 3 for Player X tomorrow and sign Malceski as a FA on Wed. What happens then?

Pick 3 is already gone.

Lets not [censored] it up for a change.

But then what we talk about on this forum??

Once you trade a compensation pick you can't bring in a free agent.

As Lamashtu implies - it's a hypothetical scenario that can't happen.

nor need it. Any other FA can be done via trade ...if amenable,

Yeeeeaaaahhhh !!

Well played PJ (and the club)

Fingers crossed we get value out of the pick.

This is oh so relevant.

Also Hirdy staying on at the Druggers. Essendrug is dying a slow, painful and very public death? What a day!

I hird suspect, that he'll fly North for the next few subtropical Winters.

'Bomb's away', to stay ?

Love how we've gone from "he's an All Australian!" "He's our best defender!" "He's one of our best players, we deserve band 1 compo" to "thank Christ this spud is gone."

Thank god, now we can finally move on and try to get something of value from this pick.

On the argument of whether Frawley is worth pick 3 is one part of this debate, straight up I would say no. But the fact is we are a lower club having one of our most important players (if he played is position to his ability) poached. Now his value to other clubs may not be pick 3, but on his ability he would be around that point for us. This means we are not be torn apart player by player.

This is the equalization we should've got last year.

A fully fit and committed Frawley is a gun player, let's not lose sight of that. He's one of the best key defenders in the game and only 26, so should play another 6 seasons at least.

However, there's no way an OOC player coming off a fairly ordinary season is worth pick 3 on the open market. He'd barely be worth a pick in the top 10.

We should be absolutely stoked. The AFL will cop plenty for their compensation formula but they won't be too worried about us getting the pick, the fact the premiers just poached the bottom team's full back is a bigger concern for them IMO.

Haha, I read that while watching the idiotic out of bounds on the full kick by Frawley, 30 seconds remaining in the Adelaide match, inside Adelaide's forward half. Wanted to see us improve as a team apparently, should've looked at himself in the mirror.

Almost cost us that game.

Even when I voted that I thought he'd stay mid-year (which I never bothered to change), I'd have taken pick 3 for Chip. Win-win this one. Don't wish him the best, but I'm pretty comfortable with how it ended up.

Still bodes poorly for our future if we can't improve on our position next year.

Love how we've gone from "he's an All Australian!" "He's our best defender!" "He's one of our best players, we deserve band 1 compo" to "thank Christ this spud is gone."

He's not a spud. But he's not worth #3 either. And last season he may have well stayed home in most of his games for all he influenced them.

And that' bleed red and blue', want to be a one club player', 'I want to see Roos commit' blah de blah just made a very cynical supporter base shrug and say 'just give us the #3 and go already'

I just feel that the timing of Chips departure and where we're positioned as a club, including the playing list, is perfectly timed.

I flicked over to watch the last 5min of the cross win and I gave a cheeky chuckle when he kicked that ball out on the full that gave them a chance of snatching it. Thanks for the memories and thanks for pick 3!

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
