Potential Trades [Warning: Reading this thread may self-destruct]

Mccartin and Hogan up forward for the next 10.years

At the end of the day we are in a great position.

Either we trade for a big name, or we go into the draft and pick up 2 young good mids.

No wonder Roosy is off to Hawaii. He'll be sipping those cocktails relaxed in the knowledge that we've won trade week.

I quite agree that it is a no-brainier! After we swap Mitch to get HL, the deal with GWS to bring in Frost, we should just sit back and snap up Petracca and Brayshaw, both of whom have the bodies to play immediately. If we miss Petracca, we take McCartin as a mate for. Hogan, no big deal. With Trengove, Salem and Toumpas all coming back off a full preseason, there are a lot of Clubs who are in a worse spot than the Dees next year!

Jeff Garlett requested trade to Dees

I actually rate Jeff Garlett and am pretty happy with this. At the cost of practically nothing anyway.

One year a couple back I thought he is in the best 2 or 3 small forwards in the comp, obviously dropped off but worth the punt IMO. And god knows, we need a small forward.

With other clubs now wanting to do Tyson like trades (or at least discussing them), it seems to me the braver course this year may be to actually choose Brayshay and McCartin.

I can understand supporters wanting ready made players with a couple of years under the belt, and the curse of our recruiting making us flinch.

As it gets closer and there arent any stars (Danger, Sheil etc) available, Id like us to call the bluffs and go for the young guns.

Trade Radio has just said that Garlet has nominated to be traded to Melbourne

Would you like a Strauss or a Blease with that?

Can you see Him and Jay k cramming the ball from Daws and Hogan.

I'm looking forward to seeing that, Garlett and Eddy use to tair it up

Off feild stuff aside (regarding Garlett and Lamumba)

If we can pick up Frost, Harry o & Garlett without giving up any high picks (keep 2 & 3 at least) that isnt' a bad offseason IMO

A ready to go KPP to replace Frawley, a rebounding Half back and another forward to assist big hoges, Dawes plus two pretty good kids....

I'd be content with that - some experience and talent

Agree that this draft could really set us up. Would like to roll the dice with another key forward as our midfield stocks are rising.

Still wonder what's happening with Cameron.

Good. Im surprised we havent discussed him more on here.

Malthouse is doing the same thing Neeld did and driving decent players away. If we can get him back to his best form for a cheap trade it will be a massive win. Similar to us losing Martin to Brisbane

I know the lions have said no to Redden leaving but would like him at the Dees as well

He's a gun

Hopefully we can do:

Lamumba with Geelong's second rounder

Frost and GWS third rounder for our second rounder

Garlett for Blease

Merrett for GWS third rounder

Apparently we've dropped out of the Merrett race. I like the other ideas though.

Still want to get one more ready to go midfielder if possible

Cameron is like Danger - GWS and Crows won't let them leave - the'll have to walk out as free agents. The US model won't happen (not yet anyway)

I like the idea of another gun young key forward but Petracca and Brayshaw would be my best case scenario. Most likely we won't get Petracca though

Saints fan on Trade radio proposing Armitage and Pick 21 for Pick 3.

Move along son.

I am surprised that there is no talk or rumors around cameron going at the moment. This was a guy who wanted to leave GWS and a lot of clubs would have loved....why no discussion

maybe think again

If they want to leave, what about a 3 way

Picks 2 & 3 & 23 to GWS..... for Shiel & Frost

Dees - Danger, Shiel, Frost,

Crows - Cameron,

Correct Id really like to hang onto pick 23 as there will be a nice players that slides down to that pick.

Nice thoughts but we haven't yet received Geelong's second-rounder to kick things off. Personally l believe we should push Geelong for their second and third rounders in exchange for Mitch, otherwise we should threaten to deal with Collingwood with MC and ask for HL and a pick. Either way we get HL and a pick in exchange for Mitch. Don't worry both Geelong and Collingwood would both like to have Mitch on their forward line!

Picks 2 & 3 & 23 to GWS..... for Shiel & Frost & Cameron

Dees - Danger, Shiel, Frost,

Crows - Cameron,

EFA

GWS starts over with Pick 2 & 3 and lose two proven top end talents, and Danger for Cameron I'm not sure would totally suit the Crows. Cameron faded this season, injuries not withstanding. Danger is worth more to them.

We'd be laughing though.

Dees - Danger, Shiel, Frost,

Crows - Cameron,

Sounds nice in theory

But why would the Crows want Cameron when they want Danger and have Tex -

and why would GWS give up 2 guns for 2 unknowns in the draft when they want senior bodies?

Plus the players have to agree to it - so good luck convincing them

The NBA style trade before FA doesn't work in the AFL yet - the players have too much say

I like it don't get me wrong - theory and reality with trades are 2 very separate things

Can you imagine what purple will have to say about this... I can see him rolling out the scattergun comment all over again!

Which makes it all the sweeter when it blows up in his face ;)

Both Lumumba and Garlett have shown they are easily capable of being in our top ten players.

Pushing out a couple of marginal 22 players, which is no bad thing.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
