2014 Player Review - # 5 Jimmy Toumpas

Holy [censored], all the Bozos are out!!!

BB, what have you done you fruit cake?????

Grow a set [censored]. FMD, what a drop kick you are. Have you never heard of investing in your youth. Even the mighty Roos has come out on numerous occasions and stated it's not the young guys that will save this Club! You must develop them properly. Ollie has done well with his first two years in the system, no denying that. But GWS and the Dogs overlooked him with their collective 5 picks. Gotta ask why???? Why have 3 Clubs with 6 picks between them seen 6 players as having better 10/12 year carriers than Ollie. With all the homework and science they do these days, WHY??? I'll tell you why, they don't look at the next 2 or 3 years only, they look at the longevity of a career. Ollie is fine now, but he is the quintessential dinosaur. His ball getting ability is first class. As long as he uses hands to dispose of it, he's ok. Good help him when he tries to kick it though. Yes, he played two great finals at 58%. Imagine the mass hysteria if we took him and he was doing that for us. Even his best mate wanted Toump over Ollie. That to me says it all.

End of story. Go for it Wankers, you know who you are.

Toump hasn't exactly inspired me as yet. However, given his age and some health/injury concerns it is a bit premature to be passing final judgement on him.

A review at this time next year might be more realistic.

This,

Jumping up and down doesn't alter the fact that he has had injuries that have affected his ability to have any meaningful impact.

If he can get a good clean run at things next year, end of season 2015 will be time to make a realistic assessment.

I just don't get the anger on here for JT.....Is it because he was pick 4.....or just that Wines is turning out to be a better player at this stage?

If it's the draft pick that is getting up peoples nose , just think....Would Robbie Flower be picked up if the draft was in fashion in his day?.......I can see it now...."To skinny, Will get pushed off the ball to easily, Just a spud, Sack the recuiters this bloke is a list clogger, He won't survive playing against men, Trade him we'll get pick 50 odd for him and so on and so on

James Hird was one of the most skilful and durable players that I have seen and was a pick 90 something(Stand to be corrected on the draft pick...Can't be bothered looking it up)

People just need to take a deep breath and give OUR players a chance to prove themselves

I read it all twice just to make sure before i posted dude.

You wrote it

That he did. The context is self delineating. I.e. He is...no qualifier.

Also Jimmy is fine...doesnt even need to kick.

How could we have got it so wrong WYL

We already have done that....& they haven't.

Yes you're right.......If they are not star after 2 years....Wipe em....Trade em.....get rid of them and then start it all over again. Then you can complain (again) about our terrible admin, coaches and footy dept right back to the sacking of Norm Smith, I bet if you followed GWS you would've sacked Dom Tyson after his first year.and by your logic there would be no development of any players at all......Would have all been sacked

No Boss They are YOUR words...

I am talking about one player who was drafted as an outside fast midfielder who has stuffed hips...when we passed up Jack Viney's best mate who has been rightfully referred to as a Man Child..That is all

Please do not assume anything on my behalf as i do not of you

ok

Actually, that's called an opinion.

arguably yes...And indeed that is my opinion.

But may I proffer that if after three years you have fukk all return that it might not be as I suggest ?

And I recall that you were the most passionate advocate of tanking in order that we get both Scully and Trengove. A policy which I and a few others bitterly opposed but which the club followed. It cost Bailey and Connolly their reputation, the club lost a small fortune, decent players were disgusted by it and wanted to leave, and we've not yet recovered from it.

I suggest you take some time to reflect on that, and tone down your criticism of a kid who has had major health issues. For Christ sake, give him a chance!

Hey Farmer

I reflected.

about % 99 thought Scummy and Trenners were the go . Very few dissenters. We got conned witg Scummy.. Trenners... only injury really has cruelled him after a promising start.

There was a divide about taking Jimmy. Seems warranted

Or we can carry them for 6 years and then try to trade them and wipe them and start all over again!

Most would agree that in a lot of cases we gave certain players too much time for no result .

Over to you Sambo

Jack, your probably 100% correct in your assertion about Toump. Who knows??? I'm not saying to give him 6 years and then delist or trade. All I'm saying is that he's a kid who's been on our list for 2 years. Had a string of mis fortune and been treated rather unfairly in getting dropped after Eagles game when there were others who ALSO deserved it. It seemed he was also asked to do things at VFL level to get back into the firsts where there were others who seemed to get a go before they deserved to. Please understand that I'm not advocating Toump should have got a go before the others, just that everyone should have been made to earn it just like him, Jordie, Viv and JKH. Others got a go when they maybe shouldn't have. The Toump has a lot to prove. I'm not disagreeing on that either. But he deserves more than the crap he gets on here from some posters. If at the end of this year he still hasn't performed, then I'm with everyone else. Trade him back to SA or wherever they will take him. All I'm saying is the vindictive attitude shown by SOME is unwarranted. Maybe Pick 4 was too high for him to go, but he was definitely a First Rounder in everyone's eyes at the time. Six years is too long, but 2 years (with injuries etc) is not long enough. That's all I'm saying. I would say the same thing about every clubs first round draft pick. I only want what's best for our Club and OUR players. We have had enough bad luck and enough of our past Superstars passing way before their time. Let's get some perspective and enjoy our Club, Team, Past Players and Staff in the tough times as much as we one day will when we improve!!

And that's all? You don't agree that the fabric of the club has been damaged by our determination to get Picks 1 and 2.? That some of us were suggesting that would be he case but you ridiculed us!

Of course it has damaged us! There is no-one in the present admin who will disagree with that.

As to Toumpas, you MAY be right! But can't you see how damaging it may be to him to be carrying on the way you are. The kid's struggling to get over the hip issues and people like you are bagging him-unmercifully.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
