GOODBYE MITCH CLARK

Featured Replies

The MFC and Mitch Clark agreed to a mutual termination of the players contract. Financial details were not to be made public, as agreed to by both parties.

He is not on our list!

(ref; Josh Mahoney May 1 2014)

It seems to me that this statement simply reflected that the club and Mitch had agreed to terms under which Mitch would accept a lump sum payment in settlement of his longer term contract with the club and that he would no longer be part of the player group for the remainder of the season. Ie, that the club and Mitch had effectively 'parted ways' on terms that had been agreed between the parties.

It probably did not, nor was it actually intended to, reflect the technical aspect of a player being released from an AFL club's list.

In short, Mahoney's statement above does not seem inconsistent with the fact that Clark, technically, remains on our list for the remainder of the year.

Was there any ....subject to injury clause... In his contract.?

If there was then that would have been pure genius by the club.

Put it this way, if there was no chance Mitch was entertaining the idea of coming back, we would have delisted him two days ago along with Burns, Nicholson and Clisby and made it official.

Very true but I thought his contract had already been terminated earlier in the year? I honestly don't know what to believe.

You cannot delist players mid year.

He is still on our list, even if he has "retired".

Well regardless of what it is, I'm pretty doubtful he'll be playing for Melbourne next year, a long shot for sure. I'm definitely not getting my hopes up.

But from where would the backlash come? I wouldn't expect there to be much except from the minority of the most bitter Demons fans .

I'm already a bitter Demon fan but if he turns up at another club ......

Put me on the minority list.

It does go a long with the rumoured time line. At least we will know for sure within a month. It's a long shot but good luck Mitch!

My reading is that the altered financial arrangements within the contract were all settled - so there was no further monies forthcoming and there was no further obligation on the player to train/play/represent the club. However he is still listed until the Contract period expires and that is Oct 31.

Me too. It might be a little bit MFCSSish, but I'm setting my expectations very low to avoid disappointment (so the worst case is nothing, and best case is I'm pleasantly surprised). Even if he does sign up again, I'd think there's some doubt about whether he'll actually be physically or mentally capable of seeing a comeback through.

I don't want to rain on others' parades though as others are clearly excited about the possibility of his return, so I'll only say this once and won't keep repeating myself.

not ever getting ones hopes up is a very wise philosophy for a Demon fan.

Strange but true: Every time I absentmindedly read through the list of Demonland topics and come to 'Mitch Clark Status' I see the words Santa Claus. Prophetic?

Yep

Great minds ............

Mitch is on our list until october 31st, isnt that around the time when it is rumored that he will make some decision on where he is at, i.e. a possible come back? is that a co-incidence, if he was sneaky he would make that decision after the 31st of october, so options are 1. he says he wants to continue with the Dees, 2. that he wants to go to somewhere else and we can relist him for a trade, or he says no thanks and walks away from football for another year or so. he could obviously designate for the draft at the end of the year but that may mean he cannot choose his destination.

I think that word covers it!

Don't think they have been delisted either, but rather advised they would be at list lodgement.

Same.

As much as I love Mitch, if he signs for another club, you better believe I'll be bitter.

What about Shannon Byrnes? Didn't he retire? He wasn't named along with the delisted the other day.

I'm not sure why people are getting their hopes up. It seemed quite clear to me the Mitch retired early in the year. Until I see him wearing a Dees jumper at training again I will still consider him retired and not get my hope up only to be dashed like so many broken demon dreams over the decades.

edit: Byrnes was named in this article but not Clark. Hmmmm. Still don't get your hopes up.

That's what I was refering too. They didn't mention him in the last changes.

I'm not suggesting by any stretch of the imagination that he's coming back. I'm just saying this is further proof that there is still a slim chance he'll return, or else they would have mentioned him in the same list changes above.

Did any of you go guys hear what barrett had to say about Clark on the footy show last night? I had it on but was on the phone and didn't hear everything but heard him say that if he was to play on next year that it would be at a melbourne club and not in perth. Think I heard gary ask him a question about the demons but didn't hear the reply?

Yes I know he's a [censored] but still interested as to what he said.

I've just noticed he has removed the "11" from his Twitter handle.

ok now is time to panic

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
