If what Machsy says is true, it probably shows a really clear intent from the new guard to properly clean out the old. It seems odd, but they didn't seem at all keep to stop Sylvia leaving and it is becoming more likely that they aren't trying too hard to stop Clark either. Perhaps in Frawley's case they thought a top 5 pick was better to use in trading in someone similar, who doesn't have the associated baggage (Jaksch or similar?)

Interesting . Could be anything, but definitely interesting take on it. Im sure a lot has been going on in the back room of the war dept. Im also sure more than a handful might want to not spend up big on their annual holiday !!

If Danger costs 3 and Toumpas, then the cost would be Frawley and Toumpas.

I would do that trade very quickly. Dropping down from 2 to 10 would be a pill but one I might swallow if there were more clubs in the race for him.

If Roos and Viney are 'letting Frawley go' - it would be similar to the Clark situation - and I can fully understand.

Hogan, Dawes, and Pedersen/Gawn can make a functioning forward line.

McDonald, Dunn, and Garland can defend tall players of varying capability.

Spinning Frawley and Clark into midfield assets would be my guiding star if I was Roos and co. this October.

Loyalty is a two-way street and a player's career can be very short. What needs to be sorted out are players having a soft year and then leaving as a free agent or otherwise at the end of that soft season. We've experienced that at our club on more than a couple of occasions (including this past season)

Trade them out the year prior if they're seriously looking elsewhere - a good coach will know a players intentions. Enough of this holding out that we've seen at our club - that sort of thing hurts us in a number of ways.

It's an unwanted distraction for supporters, fellow players and coaches alike.

We're in many ways restricted from chasing other free agents (because of the possible downgraded compo)

List management and other decisions on other players is affected.

Said player can have an intentional "soft" year to avoid injury.

Jones and Garland become free agents after next season and need to be re-signed asap. Jones is an obvious required player and Garland less so. I hope we can re-sign both players before the trade week starts. We've opened up negotiations with Jones and he would be expected to re-sign you'd reckon.

I would be ok with simply letting him pick a number. Chunk leaving would be a PR disaster, and an absolutely crippling blow.

Jones should be the highest paid player on our list, no exceptions. He's worth every cent of 750k if you ask me. He's teetering on the edge of elite.

Hey Beelz - always like your thinking - hope youre right - my worry in all of this is that, yeah, - while I know frawley has been crap of late, he can be a bloody good player. I get the feeling he's been affected by (yeah, I know, maybe one of the ones responsible for) the malaise at out club.

My fear is at we'll get some other mucked-up draft pick in his place, and lose one of our few senior players. And that he'll prosper in a new environment.

Suppose we just have to have faith in the new regime. Seem to know what they're doing so far. Just wish every free agent wouldn't desert us as soon as they are entitled to. Doesn't happen at the top clubs.

Like your thinking too! As the season has panned out it all seems to be perfectly clear...can we do without him in the backline... the answer is yes. He is a great defender but gives the ball back to the opposition just as much. Bye bye chip!
