frawley is apparently on bill and jb's show tomorrow on triple m. He will say i haven't made a decision yet, which means im waiting for hawthorns offer before i make up my mind.

he'll also say he's waiting to see which direction the club is heading in

For the way he has dragged this out for the whole year and fed the club and all it's supporters a load of crap he will always be remembered as a dog that shafted the MFC, Frawley grow some aggots, man up and tell the truth.

Rant over!

According to the afl we are improving and doing just great. That should be enough for frawley

Imagine if he stayed around and we lost the deal with Dangerfield because we didn't get the compensation pick...

We'd be so grateful for his loyalty.

Believe it or not, today I was told by a very reliable source that Frawley at one stage said to the club he'd actually like to stay as he can see we'll get better, but was told he should probably look elsewhere.

It was the major catalyst for his sudden lacklustre efforts towards the end of the season.

I'm comfortable with this.

Play with matches, sometimes you get burnt.

Because we already signed Dangerfield and we need the compo pick and salary cap space to make it happen.....

....and then I woke up.

No, because it became clear that we'd get a top 5 pick for Frawley, and we need kids much more than we need another KPD of his calibre.

Yep. He had the chance to sign last year and didn't. That's what happens sometimes. Certainly a believable anecdote.

Interesting ... That may explain why he wasn't dropped to Casey... (You will get paid & then you will leave ...)

If what Machsy says is true, it probably shows a really clear intent from the new guard to properly clean out the old. It seems odd, but they didn't seem at all keep to stop Sylvia leaving and it is becoming more likely that they aren't trying too hard to stop Clark either. Perhaps in Frawley's case they thought a top 5 pick was better to use in trading in someone similar, who doesn't have the associated baggage (Jaksch or similar?)

There is absolutely no doubt that Roos and co have evaluated our list and are now doing something to improve it.

Interesting . Could be anything, but definitely interesting take on it. Im sure a lot has been going on in the back room of the war dept. Im also sure more than a handful might want to not spend up big on their annual holiday !!^_^

If Danger costs 3 and Toumpas, then the cost would be Frawley and Toumpas.

I would do that trade very quickly. Dropping down from 2 to 10 would be a pill but one I might swallow if there were more clubs in the race for him.

If Roos and Viney are 'letting Frawley go' - it would be similar to the Clark situation - and I can fully understand.

Hogan, Dawes, and Pedersen/Gawn can make a functioning forward line.

McDonald, Dunn, and Garland can defend tall players of varying capability.

Spinning Frawley and Clark into midfield assets would be my guiding star if I was Roos and co. this October.

Loyalty is a two-way street and a player's career can be very short. What needs to be sorted out are players having a soft year and then leaving as a free agent or otherwise at the end of that soft season. We've experienced that at our club on more than a couple of occasions (including this past season)

Trade them out the year prior if they're seriously looking elsewhere - a good coach will know a players intentions. Enough of this holding out that we've seen at our club - that sort of thing hurts us in a number of ways.

It's an unwanted distraction for supporters, fellow players and coaches alike.

We're in many ways restricted from chasing other free agents (because of the possible downgraded compo)

List management and other decisions on other players is affected.

Said player can have an intentional "soft" year to avoid injury.

The coach is put into an unenviable position all season.

Jones and Garland become free agents after next season and need to be re-signed asap. Jones is an obvious required player and Garland less so. I hope we can re-sign both players before the trade week starts. We've opened up negotiations with Jones and he would be expected to re-sign you'd reckon.

Jones must be locked down NOW. I'd expect nothing less than than 5 years 600k offered to him.

I would be ok with simply letting him pick a number. Chunk leaving would be a PR disaster, and an absolutely crippling blow.

Confident he'll stay though, I see him as the type who would take less money in order to give us more cap space for future signings.

Bit of truth to both of those above. He is actually undecided, doesn't want to leave his mates but also wants better opportunites. Torn between loyalty and the dollar/ opportunity. Whether the club has said look elsewhere I don't know.

Jones should be the highest paid player on our list, no exceptions. He's worth every cent of 750k if you ask me. He's teetering on the edge of elite.

I had a suspicion for sometime and it seems to be panning out ( take no credit as only an observation)

I think Frawley has painted himself into a corner. I think the club has outfoxed him.

My thoughts go to the idea that when Roos came to us he pretty well had most summed up but there were a handful he was interested to see how they went under him. Frawley wasn't one. Once Chip played the ol I'll wait and see...the club stamped his card. Roos spent the year figuring out how to form a backline without him just to be sure. Chips value to us became his compo pick. Something Roos COULD use to rebuild the midfield. Chip thinks hes been clever but hes a pawn.

I reckon the club is happy to part with many of the old brigade as it rebuilds its culture. Some have the right stuff and will stay. Others will soon part company.

This year is about correcting the ship. This trade-draft is about gettinf some more quality cattle. Next season about playinv real Aussie Roos Football.

Thanks Chip

I think there was a healthy dose of "if you can match what's being offered elsewhere" also, and it was suggested that we definitely wouldn't.

I get the impression that every club in the competition has been telling Frawley how amazing he is... except for us.

I actually couldn't care who plays for us as long as we become a good team and challenge for flags. If Roos and Co can do that then they are the messiahs.

Hey Beelz - always like your thinking - hope youre right - my worry in all of this is that, yeah, - while I know frawley has been crap of late, he can be a bloody good player. I get the feeling he's been affected by (yeah, I know, maybe one of the ones responsible for) the malaise at out club.

My fear is at we'll get some other mucked-up draft pick in his place, and lose one of our few senior players. And that he'll prosper in a new environment.

Suppose we just have to have faith in the new regime. Seem to know what they're doing so far. Just wish every free agent wouldn't desert us as soon as they are entitled to. Doesn't happen at the top clubs.

Like your thinking too! As the season has panned out it all seems to be perfectly clear...can we do without him in the backline... the answer is yes. He is a great defender but gives the ball back to the opposition just as much. Bye bye chip!

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
