Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

And what a huge flaw it is...

If I could swap Frawley for a commensurately talented mid - I would do it. But the world doesn't work like that.

I would do it in a heart beat as well, but I'm just not convinced at this stage that there are midfielders available that will warrant a pick at the top end of the draft. I'm worried that GWS, unless a player is desperate to come back to Vic, will be interested in yet more picks when it's clear they need more experience rather than youth. Outside of their plethora of mids I'm not sure who we will target and just who is actually available for the price we can pay.

Chip is one of only a handful of Melbourne players who would get a game in most - if not all - the other 17 clubs.Whether or not we use the compensation for his loss to find a first grade midfielder is problematical. In pure trade terms, I'm not sure you can say anything other than that.

There is another issue at play here. What does it telegraph to the rest of the football community that a senior player turns his back on $1m over 3 to 5 years to be part of what Paul Roos is building here? How much more are we going to have to pay to entice someone away from GWS,say, if they see a senior player who has been part of Roos' Melbourne walk out the door?

We can rationalise - "it's just the money" - but the suspicion that he doubts Roos' ability to turn us into a serious contender in the next 5 years will remain. As a show of faith in the club - and in Roos ability to develop a suitable successor - I think it is important that Chip stays.

If Roosy really is building belief - then all his team leaders - should want to stay.

IMO Chip is has decided to go a long time ago and a deal has already been made. If all and sundry can see the direction the club is taking and he can not then so be it , we are better to have a bargaining chip to wave around at trade time

He may have decided to go but why would you make the deal now when there are multiple suitors - I would be playing Geelong Freo GC and the Hawks off against each other.

If he's smart he'll go to the suns, they could pay him 600k a year, he would play finals every year for the rest of his career just about, best chance of those sides of a flag imo with freo, geelong and hawks all having ageing stars.

personally i reckon he will go for the superannuation dollars

if he can do that and get to a side in a finals window that will be his bonus

no doubt he will claim it's all about finals but he won't convince me

not that there is anything wrong (from his pov) of going for the pot of gold but very few would admit that that could be the main reason

Just throwing it out there, the rumoured 6 year deal could well have come from the Giants with 800k plus on the table?

would Chip say no to someone offering that far over his worth to play finals, I mean the Giants could rise up the ladder quickly with that level of talent anyway and he would be set up for life.

Scully went for the opportunity to be at a start up club - Ablett accomplished all he could at Geelong and was excited about a new adventure. Franklin had accomplished his grand finals dreams at Hawks and it was time for a new challenge.

Right....

Its always about the money.

Hope he goes to Geelong and they miss the finals next year.

Once they go (players) I dont give a rats anymore.

The only one I have a loathing dislike for is Scully as he took lying and deception to whole new level.

Hogan highlights the difference between himself and scully, he clearly understands the investment the club has made, Scully didn't give a crap he just wanted money

Now miiiiiiiiiiike,i really enjoy your posting buuuuuuuuuuuutt, anybody who knocked back a zillion dollars GWS was offering would be a fool. And every player {ablett and buddy did it} would take them dollars that were offered,I have no probs with TS accepting that.

With (dis)respect - the stars also aligned for Scully - he could make the deal with GWS and be guaranteed to get there.

That Freo had a big dip at him didn't mean he could get there. Could have been really messy if he wanted to go and we wouldn't play ball

I understand what you mean but the MFC offer was also substancial, a lot of players take pay cuts to stay at their team, Scully completely ignored the investment and offer from MFC, and if you believe all that is said, has done nothing but bad mouth the club since, we probably dodged a bullet looking back

It wasnt the money - it was the lies. I know we pressured him to talk but have a look at Ablett who refused to talk about it- he didnt say boo the whole year no matter how many times they asked him. Ablett didnt lie because he didnt say anything. He refused to confirm or deny. He kept schtum.

The only flaw in the argument is whether or not we can lure another big fish that would improve, for example, our midfield. Do GWS, for example, want more high picks or are they now looking to lure players to help their development? It's all fine and good to land a compo pick for Frawley and dream of who we might get, but the fact is that there isn't a whole lot out there on the market (that we know of) and we may not get the players we want.

Shiel seems a certainty to come back to Vic.

RP, we will still have our first round draft pick to do "something" with. We don't need to hope/rely on getting top compensation if JF goes, just so we can add to our midfield.

If only we knew what the criteria/formula is to working out the Free Agency compensation. Given it's short history, $700k a year will get you Band 1, I don't think $500k will. A majority of posters on here think we will get Band 1, but then a different majority don't think he's worth $700k. They are two different majorities, but I'm sure there will be people who are in both groups.

The thing is you're acting like its up to the club whether we keep him or not. It's not it's solely Frawley's decision and we just deal with the repercussions of that (whether its to stay or go).

Not saying you are incorrect, but do you have an article etc to back that claim?

Edit - Would be more than happy for him to come home, just haven't heard that he is that keen to do so.

There was something in the paper a couple of weeks back, was pretty close to leaving last year but was still under contract and with Tyson going I think they didn't a mini-exodus occurring.

Fair enough, if he is keen to come home and we can get the right deal done then that's more than fine by me. Would slot rather nicely into our midfield. If you ever come across said article, or someone else done, I'd love a look at it!

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
