Jack Watts on "On the Couch"

I'm surprised you're not joining the dots. You did with the Hogan deal.

I remember Roos saying "the media focus on Watts is much greater than the MFC focus on Watts, he's just one of 22". Hence my opinion that Jack shouldn't have done the interview. It's not that he did it badly because he didn't - it was just bland, but while he's moving from fair player to good player he should just concentrate on that and not do media IMO. Chris Dawes would have been a much better interviewee as he's very well spoken and could have talked about both Collingwood and MFC, done comparisons including MM v PR. It would have been more interesting and stood us in a better light.

TBH player interviews are usually pretty bland whereas when coaches are interviewed they can say more.

Chris Dawes is on everything all the time. The footy show, 360, club website after each game he plays in, 11 minute media conferences etc...

I'm sure the blokes at bland central On The Couch requested Watts due to the anniversary of what they see as that infamous debut. Watts is a big enough boy to accept the offer and speak for himself, he was fine.

Every player interview on that show is bland, Ted Richards sent me into a wonderful slumber.

Watts is 1 of 22, you can't have all 22 on that standard size couch.

You're making a big deal out of nothing.

Same sort of thinking that saw Watts rolled out for QB 6 years ago.

Dumb.

Yeah thats because we were in the entertainment business back then too...

Yawn

Watts is completely overexposed I reckon. Jones, Dawes, Frawley, Cross or others could have done it. Watts did an interview with Mike Sheahan last year, he's been on the Footy Show and he's been the subject of newpaper articles as well as other media focus. I'm thinking enough is enough.

I don't think it's a biggie, I just think it was a mistake.

There's the other side of the coin to consider, namely that of the media outlets. Which Melbourne player is going to get people tuning in? Ask the average punter to name a Melbourne player, and half of them will name Watts. He's an intriguing figure. A figure of interest. We don't have many of those coming from the last few years.

He was nervous, but he didn't shame himself at all. I've got no real issue with him taking on interviews such as this, especially in the build up to QB with his infamous debut to reflect on changes since then.

Watts was as candid as he could be without wanting to rock any boats. His comments when asked if there was anything he'd do differently were a great example of that. But he's also right that when you start to succeed you appreciate the journey that you've taken to get there. If we are able to get to the final hurdle and compete with the best imagine how it will feel for the likes of Jones, Chip, and Garlo who have been with the club during some of it's worst times.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
