I would like Lingy at the club but I wonder if his timeline matches up with ours. He clearly is a very level headed and smart bloke. He wouldn't get into the caper only to set himself up to fail (i.e. Voss though I think he is salvageable as a senior coach, Tim Watson). If he thinks he needs 3-4 years as an assistant, he would do it. By the sounds of it that might be too long a wait for us.
Roos says he will extend into a third year and then hand over. I am a little worried about that. I think he should say 5 years at an absolute maximum. I understand some potential assistant coaches might get cold feet if Roos just doggedly hangs on but I still think it should be a case of him leaving when the job is done (i.e. when the club can actually withstand him leaving and not fall over as soon as he does).

2 years under Paul Roos would be Ideal for Ling or Voss and hopefully Paul Roos influence will still be around the club in a new job 2017

Luke Beveridge is interesting been at hawthorn, throw in 2 years under roos

Whoever it is it must be a coach who will continue the Roos gameplan. Roos stated that on the MFC mid year review video. I still believe it will be Rawlings. He will have had 3 years under Roos and from all reports he works well with the players and other coaches. Rawlings will have more knowledge of the game plan and the players then any other potential coach out there.

Logic would suggest Rawlings considering his time already with Roosy. He seems to have the respect of the players and the times I've listened to him speak he comes across as a person that engages.

Surely he wants another shot at a senior gig?

Nathan Bassett has a good record of success and seems to be able to gel a playing group.

Apart from being a MFC player, there's something I find appealing about Beveridge. He took the reigns in a Hawks NAB challenge game earlier this year IIRC.

I wouldn't sneeze at getting an experienced assistant out the Hawthorn system.

If someone like Ling would come in 2 years would be fine. Players like that are already coaching on the field. Roos as director (master of puppets) coaching. I like it.

I'd love to get Junior back to the club as a coach. Surely with everyone involved in his sacking now gone he'd consider us again?

Beveridge is a smoky. I had not considered him at all but Hawk supporters love his work with the younger players.

But to be honest, I have no idea who is on the Dees radar. Our board no longer leaks and their planning is all done away from the media, quietly and effectively. Looking at the style of PJ and Bartlett, I reckon they already know who they want and have a program of how/when to recruit get him, but are just waiting for the right time to sign off and announce.

I have said it before but next to Roos I think George Stone is the most important to tie up tightly. Much of our midfield turnaround is due to him. As long as he stays in place and we pick a coach that has the players respect we'll be OK.

After the Port Vs Hawks game, Cam Ling is saying that in the next few months he will make enquiries about getting into coaching.

He is not saying he is, but he is starting to think about his options.

If nothing else, we are finally being taken seriously as a club and are genuinely seen to be a credible destination.

I think if Ling is the choice then Roos will be official coach for 2 years then unofficial for a couple more, it would be a bit more of a reverse Longmire handover where Roos had really relinquished the role a year or 2 before telling anyone. I couldn't see him coming in from no coaching experience to head coach in 2 years.

I still think we should be asking james mcdonald to finish at gws and come back as a coach, potentially successor. he's been coaching/playing at gws since he left melb.

I have heard from a reasonable source from someone back in Perth who has a lot to do with football that John Worsfold has moved to melbourne and is keen on coaching again. Supposedly his presence is the richmomd job if it becomes available, if not he wants the melbourne job

I loved Junior as a player.

I was happy PJ showed him the respect he deserved and was not shown in 2010 by naming the best team man award after him.

These were positive developments in the club's history.
Another is that people in the club are no longer getting gigs because they are past players or 'bleed red and blue'.

It doesn't mean that if you played for the club you aren't entitled to apply for a job. It's just that this shouldn't be the main selection criteria.
If Junior makes a decent fist of his time at GWS or elsewhere, then fair enough. However, him being a past club great should be irrelevant.

Ling or Bomber.

Reading this thread, there have been some very intriguing suggestions. Whomever the Demons choose, I just hope they take their time, do all the proper research and make the best decision for the club rather than go for the latest flavour of the month. That said, with the recent changes made at all levels of the club, I am confident that the right choice.

Worsfold, Ling, and Bassett seem like interesting possibilities to me.

I think he might have learned the Paul Roos game plan playing under Paul Roos but I get your drift.
