he's a real 'wait and see' for mine.

like hogan, until he can come and play football again following the injury, i just presume he's done and dusted.

its a bit that way really isnt it

I think Trengove's pace is an issue, however it can be combatted.

If Trengove can just gut run and make every contest, he will make up for it.

I believe he can become a superstar, but just needs confidence and to stay injury free. He has more upside than most midfielders

alas,....effort and results dont always go the way of desire

He just wants a spot freed up on the list so Juice can return.

If Trenners can't come back and have a big year next year I think his place on the list will begin to be questioned. Once Blease Tapscott Strauss Nicho are gone at the end of this year, Trenners will be moving closer to the chopping block if he can't come back and make an impact.

You are a muppett PF. You are nothing but a troll who enjoys drinking in your own bath of negatively and constant criticism on basically any young player on our list.

Go back to supporting Carlton.

You are only as good as your last game, Trengove is of Casey standard, maybe not even.

I think he has a lot of work to do, A LOT.

From what I've seen of Jack Trengove the past 2 years, it will be hard for him to break back into the senior side.

The problem? He lacks aggression, a will to get the ball at any cost. MFC is no longer a side where you just go through the motions.

I haven't been impressed by Trengove the past few years, he has much work to do.

A few things though

1. He was captain way too soon impacting his form

2. He missed a fair bit of footy with injury

3. He was in a rubbish side with a rubbish coach

4. He may have been carrying this injury for a long time

Trengove doesn't shirk contests. He runs hard to get the ball. But you are right he hasn't got that Nathan Jones or Jack Viney level of aggression but neither does Vince or Tyson.

Whilst he can be part of a rotation or do a job as an inside midfield I believe his best footy is as a Steele Sidebottom outside mid/half forward who runs all day and accumulates quality possessions. However he needs to at least have average speed not to be slow to make it in that role. It all depends on how well he recovers but there's so much time I don't know why people are rushing to judgement.

Disagree, I think he's an inside mid and we have been trying to play him as an outside mid/half forward where his pace gets exposed more so, I want to see him at the bounces.

I can see why we've tried to play him in both.

The fact is, Trengove doesn't have the pace to play as an outside midfielder - but he does his the class and finish. However, because he doesn't have the breakaway pace, he isn't effective at all.. So we try play him as an inside midfielder, but the problem with that - is that Trengove doesn't have the aggression or toughness to play as an inside midfielder.

Trengove needs to play with more intent if he is to make it as a midfielder.

Dead set, surely in the COC there's something about continually causing conflict. I don't mind posters who try and debate whether a player is done but this clown drops a bomb in every thread and runs.

Our threads go so off-track, let's start making these posters aware this forum isn't a place to make a mockery of supporters who actually want to talk Melbourne footy.

I avoided this thread for a while due to its heading. "Trengove, calling it now". I just assumed it was another negative thread predicting Trengove's demise. Glad that it wasn't although the usual suspects (you know who you are) have shown that they didn't learn from their grandmothers. You know, the lesson in life that says "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."

On the contrary, I call it like I see it.

Bit harsh Troll?? I think not,

I can for example, find nothing but invigoration and admiration for most players on the list.

JONES, DAWES, GARLAND, TYSON, SALEM, KENT, DUNN, FRAWLEY, JKH, AND THE LIST GOES ON AND ON

However some players in my opinion are either not up to it, and for a variety of reasons lost it! Eg

a) Lack of work ethic

b) Bad luck with injuries

c) Ordinary and or highly speculative picks to start with etc etc. (And of course we have had plenty of those)!

Jack Trengoves case he has not played good footy for two years, whether or not that is the fault of injury or the pace of the game has caught up with him. The fact of the matter is he has not developed and improved as we would have liked.

IMO I believe his lack of pace is decisive and further I don't believe he will get this back ( was he ever quick to start with?)

In this modern game if you are slow unless you are a ball winning freak that hurts opposition with your disposal you won't get a game.

Q Can we afford to have a player like this in our side and if yes what position ( which currently is being taken by someone else) is he going to take???

Pity but I'm calling it now, Rose coloured glasses are wonderful and look, would love he proves me wrong, but Not IMO and those who don't like my opinion

Stiff!!

Troll ?? Nar just calling it as I see it!

  • PREVIEW: West Coast

Saturday’s election night game in Perth between the West Coast Eagles and Melbourne represents 18th vs 15th which makes it a tough decision as to which party to favour. The Eagles have yet to break the ice under their new coach in Andrew McQualter who is the second understudy in a row to confront Demon Coach Simon Goodwin who was also winless until a fortnight ago. On that basis, many punters might be considering to go with the donkey vote but I’ve been assigned with the task of helping readers to come to a considered opinion on this matter of vital importance across the nation. It was almost a year ago that I wrote a preview here of the Demons’ away game against the Eagles (under the name William from Waalitj because it was Indigenous Round).  I issued a warning that it was a danger game, based on my local knowledge that the home team were no longer easybeats and that they possessed a wunderkind generational player in Harley Reid who was capable of producing stellar performances playing among men a decade and more older than he.  At the time, the Eagles already had two wins off the back of a couple of the young man’s masterclasses and they had recently given the Bombers a scare straight after their Anzac Day blockbuster draw against the then reigning premiers.

  • NON-MFC: Round 08

Round 08 of the 2025 AFL Season kicks off on Thursday with a must-win game for the Bombers to stay in touch with the top eight, while the struggling Roos seek a morale-boosting upset. Friday sees the Saints desperate for a win as well if they are to stay in finals contention and their opponents the Dockers will be eager to crack in to the Top 8 with a win on the road. Saturday kicks off with a pivotal clash for both sides asthe Bulldogs look to solidify their top-eight spot, while Port seeks to shake their pretender tag. Then the Crows will be looking to steady their topsy turvy season against a resurgent Blues looking to make it 4 wins on the trot. On Election Night a Blockbuster will see the ladder-leading Pies take on the Cats, who are keen to bounce back after a narrow loss. On Sunday the Sydney Derby promises fireworks as the Giants aim to cement their top-eight status, while the Swans fight to keep their season alive. The Hawks, celebrating their centenary, will be looking to easily account for the Tigers who are desperate to halt their slide. The Round concludes on Sunday Night with a top end of the table QClash with significant ladder implications; both Queensland teams are in scintillating form. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
