Changes for Round 9 vs Tigers

What

Recommended Posts

I really would'nt drop Matt Jones. He has been very good this year in his second year. I was as angry as any Melbourne supporter with his misses and they were unacceptable in such a tight match.

But he needs to be shown more faith from our supporters and coaches. Averaging 21/22 disposals.. a keep for me

Not to mention he's become one of our hardest runners. His ability to break lines is so underrated and he pushes very hard both ways.

Interesting side note will be the side of Frawley this week. Great record v Reiwoldt..

Will they shift him back or tommy Mc get the job?

IMO Roos has shown a lot of faith in the players and I think he will give TMac First option on Riewoldt, Dunn to Vickery.

Byrnes still providing forward pressure and closing down space, Kent offers more and if fit I don't mind that change.

Roos is for the now and winning every game, Bail stays and Terlich if he comes up also stays.

In Contention

Kent - as stated above

Riley - I think the Toiges are soft and don't like the hardstuff will be considered

Clisby - good form and along with Georgiou the obvious one's should Terlich not come up

Georgiou - been good and has done all Roos has asked

Blease - personally wouldn't play him I think barring a turnaround the line is halfway through his name, but his name may be thrown up because one thing the Toiges struggle with is pace

Of those named above depending on injuries I only think possibility of 1 change, maximum of 2

Riley and Clisby have to be the first players in contention as they've been putting their hands up for a number of weeks in a row.

If Terlich doesn't pull up, it should be Clisby to come in. If Byrnes goes, Riley should (hopefully) replace him.

I assume they will want to keep to the now standard set-up. Tommy to start on Vickery and Dunn to stand Riewoldt

If Dunn stands on Riewoldt then we've lost sight of Dunn's role IMO. I think last night showed that we're worse off having him stand the opposition's most dangerous forward. He has played his best footy as third man up and distributor coming out of the 50.

Lots of other options for Riewoldt. Frawley back or Georgiou back in the side as a horses for courses change would be my preference. Garland is also an option; all these are better options than Dunn I think.

I'd like to see Dunn in tandem with Howe on the half back flanks, or forward when needed.

Dunn on Riewoldt = we lose.

As a defender, Dunn has to be a flanker or a third tall at best. Better yet, he should play forward.

Agree, he wont go to Reiwoldt, but IMO think he can do a good job on Vickery and get in his head

Byrnes is definitely NOT a part of the future, so IMO he needs to do better than a younger player who is currently offering similar options.

That is why Kent should get a game ahead of him.

Any updates on Clisby's concussion?

Don't care if he's not the future. Neither is Daniel Cross, but both players are the present and if players who are the future want their spots, they can earn them.

I'd send Chip back to play on Jack Rewoldt, he always seems to beat him, Tommy Mac should be too good for Vickery, and Garland can take edwards leaving Dunn to play the role that most suits him.

failing that Pederson to CHB on vickery and Mcdonald on jack leaving chip forward.

Byrnes and Terlich out for Riley (sub) and Clisby/Strauss/Blease.

The sub should be a midfielder rather than a small forward.

Strauss has done nothing to deserve a call up, whilst Blease has had one game where he touched the ball an acceptable number of times.

Neither is anywhere near close to playing AFL.

Clisby, however, is, and if we are going to make changes (especially if Terlich isn't right for this week) I'd look to him.

That is exactly the attitude that was shirked under the Bailey years and it set us back a way. If a player is playing well and in the best 22, they should be playing no matter their age.

Having said that, Byrnes isn't offering as much as what I think Riley or Cliby could if they were to come in so I wouldn't be opposed to Byrnes being dropped for one of these two. Alternatively, having Salem play out the full game next weekend and playing Byrnes as sub could be better.

Dunn has been performing very well, but there is not much he can do when is opponent is considerably larger and stronger. With Georgiou fit, the defence roles are filled.

I don't cringe when jetta has the ball, he has a lot of body strength for a little man. Its his speed, his chases make me sigh.

I think he'll get zoned & jammed up. He's not in as great a form line, as a couple of years back.

Its our small defenders & mids pushing back that are the key. Our delivery out of defence is the key to us going well.

This is where I'm concerned Re Bail. when he receives the ball between wing & half forward, he's like a rabbit in a spotlight. too often we just lose the ball again after he gets it. either directly from him tackled, or his decisions/disposal causes us to cough it up deep.

If Byrnes or any other player is to lose their spot, it would only be by not doing the team things, the new team values.

Any player who wants to replace a Melbourne player who has not been undisciplined, & has stuck to the team principles, hopefully would need to Jump right over the top of them doing Summer-Salts & Handstands with pike.

Other than Clisby who has been really steady in his form most season, still waiting an opportunity, theres not many Demanding a spot. Casey over the last few weeks has been off a bit by all reports.

I'd like to see Kent get another go as well, but not necessarily for Byrnes.

Not sure who will go in as from todays articles some players are hanging out for the bye. Imbalance in the draw has the Tiges fresh after a 2 week break and us with Terlich concussed, Frawley with Toe problems and groin & hamstring tightness. Roos also hinted after 3 goes as sunb that Salem may go back to VFL for a full game. If so cannot see Byrne being demoted. So a half back well Clisby was close, a key forward maybe Fitz and another running player take your pick

FB: Dunn Garland Jetta

HB: Grimes McDonald Howe

C: Vince Jones Jones

HF: JKH Dawes Bail

FF: Watts Frawley Pedersen

Foll: Jamar Tyson Cross

Int: Clisby Viney McKenzie Salem

Out: Byrnes, Terlich

In: McKenzie, Clisby

Clisby for Terlich, probably needs a week off due to injury.

McKenzie in to tag, Grimes to backline, Howe and Clisby to play time on the wing

Would very much consider Gawn in, Pedersen back, Dunn forward. That's the move if Frawley is out

If they think Salem has a full game in him maybe sub Watts. Would be gutsy.

Byrnes has to go. Use midfielders forward in his spot. If McKenzie comes in I'd try Cross at half forward for a bit as well just for a different look.

Terlich concussed, surely will not play next week. Would have to be replaced by Clisby.

Those calling for Georgiou to replace Dunn (as a key back) are misguided. Georgiou is 187 cm @ 88kgs (too small for key position) and Dunn is 192 cm @ 98 kgs. If anyone is better suited to play on the talls, its Dunn. Garland will have to play on a tall or Frawley will have to come back if he is not out with a thigh injury.

I don't care how tall Dunn and Georgiou are, Georgiou has shown this year he is a much better key defender than Dunn is.

Can't agree with that ur anus! Georgiou is a good solid goer but Dunn has him covered on every count. Better mark, better kick, more experienced and has a real physical presence.

Very interesting

I firmly believe we can beat Richmond, who have a weakness against sides like us that throw up an intense contest! ( Sheeit did I just say that??)

I reckon Roosy will play a few this week that are just as fierce at the ball so,

Out

Bynes nuff said

Chip ( injured hammy) may not get up depends how he pulls up

Terlich (Concussion)

In

Riley

Clisby

Mr Bean

Dunne - to have first crack at Riewoldt and backed up by Mc Donald

Garland - Vickery same as above Mc Donald backup or Bean

Salem to start

Clisby to sub or Riley depending on circumstance!

Can't believe calls for Bail to be axed, has improved and is working hard, and seems to be reading the ball much better.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
