The Jack Viney bump that never was!

Featured Replies

AFLPA should get involved in this.

It is gross injustice.

The thing that shows this is a broken system is that either:

A) Viney chose to bump and broke someone's jaw--in which case he should get 4 weeks, or;

B) He didn't choose to bump and the broken jaw is incidental--in which case he should be found not guilty.

Instead, neither of those options is taken and he gets 2 weeks instead. Why?

I posted that this afternoon. 4-6 weeks or not guilty. 2 weeks is nonsensical

Gerard Healy and Dwayne Russell both agree that it was the right decision made. They read out a bunch of messages from journos i.e gerard wheatley, mark robinson etc. who were infuriated by the decision and Wheatley and Russel followed by saying "how much AFL footy have they played" etc.

Absolute wankers.

Unbelievable arrogance, especially from Dwayne who was mediocre at best! Besides, I would like to steer them towards some of the tweets coming from Mark Ricciuto, Cam Mooney, Jude Bolton, three of the hardest players to have played the game, just to name a few.

Former Hawthorn great Dermott Brereton said on radio - moments following the verdict - he would not attend the AFL's Hall of Fame dinner in protest.
More to come …
I love the support of the AFL community

I just fell in love with Dermie

I hope others join him and this becomes a huge movement

2 weeks - 2 games against two clubs where Viney's presence could make a real difference. Absolutely disgusted with this outcome.

Why wasn't the player that picked up Georgiou and smashed him to the ground, reported?

The tribunal members have been out of the game that long they can't remember the last game they played let alone sit on judgement.

Allegedly can only appeal if we have new evidence? (according to the newsreader chick on SEN)

That's not correct. It's actually completely the wrong way around. You can appeal based on the four grounds I outlined earlier (error of law, Tribunal could not reasonably have come to that decision, penalty manifestly excessive etc.) but you cannot usually adduce new evidence.

This is from an article about Brent Harvey's appeal in 2012:

Tribunal rules dictate that the only grounds for clubs to refer a tribunal decision to the appeals board are ''an error of law, a grossly unreasonable decision, a manifestly excessive classification or a manifestly excessive sanction''.

New evidence is only allowed if appeals-board members are convinced that evidence could not have been produced for the preceding tribunal hearing, and was significant enough to prompt the tribunal to overturn.

We have discovered the AFL is a joke - does that count as new evidence? I guess not

Just further proof the AFL is totally political. They have no concept of proper procedure and fairness.

Football community polarised. NFI reigns supreme. After being stitched on Trengove didn't think it was possible it could happen twice.

Now hope the club and players galvanise behind Jack.

AFL have made fools of themselves tonight. Good work boys.

Why should people pay there hard earned to go watch a sport where players can no longer commit 100% to a contest, it's a disgrace the AFL is going downhill at a rapid rate

Why wasn't the player that picked up Georgiou and smashed him to the ground, not reported?

Because Georgiou's head didn't hit the ground. If Georgiou had weaker neck muscles, there would have been a suspension.

If it was Joel Sellwood do you think the result would be the same? Im not suggesting it wouldn't be just curious....

Had a sickening feeling about this....

Jack will learn.

What will he learn 'jumbo', to get out of the way of a contest? to have no faith in the AFL system?

The onus is now for players to take evasive action to avoid contact or suffer the consequences.

Please, please appeal.

Well I hope this doesnt put people going off to the footy saturday night. I think we should all get there and stand behind this team and show them we support them.

By the way on a side note I wonder if Sam Newman will do his march to afl headquarters like he threatened to do when Fyfe got suspended. I hope he gets all fired up about this on Thursday.

That's Wayne Henwood, Emmett Dunne and Wayne Schimmelbusch.

These guys should wear pink tutus outside the MCG on Friday night cause they are as soft as melted butter.

How can past players think he could get out of the way seriously what a pathetic, disgusting, appalling and WEAK decision.

What did Tom lynch get for giving Georgiou concussion?

Same thing isnt it?

Nathan Schmook:

Melbourne football manager Josh Mahoney just addressed the media and they will be looking into appeal options tonight.

JOKE

Is this some odd AFL face-saving exercise?

I'm not paranoid, but, they have it in for Melbourne. Everyone and his dog said he's innocent, and they come up with this ridiculous verdict.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.
