Players to target at the end of the year

The bloke I think Roos could turn around is Toby Greene. I suspect I have little support there.

I agree, although what puts me off Greene is his disposal. We have enough blokes who butcher the ball at the club, we don't want another.

Agree, I think Roos could have a positive effect on the kid.

I think he is young enough and talented enough to fix his disposal!

So why is Shiel highly unlikely? Where did the 'highly' come from?

He is in the pact. So thats a definite unlikely.

What puts me off Greene is he might not be available for a season or two, and his problems run a bit deeper than what Roos can fix. I hope he can turn it around as he is a serious talent but he is coming from a long way back.

Being in the pact is definitely no. No way in hell GWS will trade a kid in a pact...god forbid...

Same as it ever was, it is the midfield, stupid. Back line looks good, forward line looks OK if Hogan can play. But we've only got 4 AFL class mids N.Jones, Vince, Tyson and Viney (apologies to Daniel Cross) when we need at least 10. Some more may come out of Trengove, Toumpas, Salem, Barry and JKH. Last year Tyson, Salem and Vince - about half our midfield - for 2, 20 and Sylvia (23) was an excellent return. This year it would be great to repeat that and if Frawley goes we'll have an even stronger hand - 3, 4 and 23ish. I didn't anticipate last year's deal, I expect we'll be working hard on something similar.

Jake Melksham should/could be a target. Hard and classy. Just what Roos stated we need. Believe he is disgruntled and looking for a fresh start. In his own words he 'plays best when given a role'. Pick 23ish should get the job done. Roos should get into bombers ear about a trade/swap scenario. (After we know the ASADA washout)

Tom Mitchell is one I really hope we chase hard, he's a great young player and already has a solid relationship with Roos and Stone

And Viney by the looks of it..

Gary Rohan is starting to string some good games together now but with Shaw and Malceski near the end they wouldn't want to let him go.

Having an Essendon supporting wife I watch a lot of Essendon. He is possibly more frustrating than any player at Melbourne and I would not take him for free. He appears hard and appears classy but is neither, makes appalling errors and spends half the match when not turning over the ball falling over or running on the spot.

And Viney by the looks of it..

what do you mean by that DD

agree re melksham. super-average player.

gary rohan is in some fine, fine form - essentially has now taken the role that andrejs everitt was playing at the swans, and is the obvious replacement if malceski does leave them. he's so quick. can't see swans letting him go.

Nah I think he's deffs [censored]. Essendon supporters don't want him either. Reminds me a tad of Jordie Mckenzie

He's nothing like McKenzie, terrible comparison. One is hard and tough but slow with no skill, the other is pretty much the opposite.

That's not to say Melksham is any good - he's not, he's soft, lazy, and generally just adds nothing to the side.

Played junior footy with Jack going by the article?

Gary Rohan is vastly overrated, yes he is good but he's playing in a good side.

I would doubt him in a side like ours, I doubt he would break games open and lead from the front. At this point in time I would much rather target someone else.

I think he has a really big upside and that's what I would be looking at. We identified the upside with Tyson and he's a winner for us, we need more of the same.

Roos & Stone will have the inside info on Rohan anyway, so if we do have a go at him we will have a pretty good idea about him. If we don't then so be it, but this is the type of player we need to identify and land. Added to some good drafting and development we will be on our way.

one of our top picks for Mitchell and Rohan?

Pick 2, 3, and 4 (priority pick) guys...what are we going to do with it. We can't go for any GWS players that's for sure

Exactly why we use 2,3,4 on the draft. Take Petracca, Brayshaw and Pickett or wright

Who the [censored] would want to come to this [censored] club?

No one... A and that's why we're fooked

Rebuild through the draft. Gws showed why in 3 years time they will be a powerhouse.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
