Interesting idea. Sucks ya don't have a 'home team' advantage when playing on your home turf, that's certainly what local footy has over AFL.

Although some teams in the AFL have that luxury; Geelong and the interstate teams.

I cannot understand this notion of not hating other teams. You barrack for Melbourne - therefore you hate everyone else. I'll concede that there are degrees of hate. For example I hate Carlton but I hate Richmond even more.

I cannot understand anything outside these parameters. I had a few fights in Clifton Hill to support this rule.

No need to be condescending, I was simply debating your viewpoint. Which, you know, happens on forums too.

I don't think many people would be keen on the idea of running out against the Saints this week, after a long off-season, and not being able to belt out 'It's a Grand Old Flag'. Passion is what makes Australian footy great.

That's the problem, they're not brilliant 'ideas', they are simply trying to mirror american sports, as they have done with the likes of free agency.

Great idea, after a recent visit to the states and seeing how sports over there are it definitely adds to the hostility towards opposition teams. In the states the home team feels like a home team. In AFL you could go to a game and have no idea who the home team is.

I think they should concentrate a bit more on winning games by playing better football than their opponent. So far they have shown potential but have not delivered, many have them a top 8 or even top 4 contender. For them it's time to put up or shut up.

Yes, I'm not pretending that we draw bigger crowds, but to be perfectly honest I couldn't give a stuff about creating a hostile environment. The fact of the matter is, at most of their games, they're going to be outnumbered by opposition supporters anyway, so it would not make an iota of difference to the atmosphere
