He's still living off his glory days of 2010 a bit, but make no mistake, if (when) he goes he'll be a huge loss. 25 year old, powerful and athletic full backs don't grow on trees, hence 8+ clubs are chasing his signature.

We'll be well compensated if he does leave. If we get pick 1 and 2 we will trade pick 2 out, and if it's picks 1, 2 and 3 we'll trade 2 and 3 out. I'm pretty confident of that. I don't think we can afford to take all of them to the draft, in case we "luck out" with a bad draft (Scully, Trengove, Lachie Hansen, Gumbleton etc).

Who is the pillock that put this video together?

What a monumental w***er.

I agree, but i reckon alot of it would have been shown in the post match review, some of it is inexcusable.

Some of it may have been, but the commentary was crap.

Yes, as a team we need to fumble less and hit more targets, but all players do it from time to time.

Some of the examples singled out and the accompanying comments were completely unnecessary.

I disagree that he'd be a huge loss. When you consider his performance over the last couple of years for us and as a role model, he ain't really doing a great job. As many have observed, body language, lack of effort and intensity and care factor. These things are have been evident when watching him play for some time now.

As a club we're in such a unique and awkward position... It's clear we need to address our list as a whole, bring in some new, fresh and hungry players and move on some that have been at our club for so long that it's clearly afftecting their output and it's contributing to our clubs downward spiral.

There's no point adopting an emotional predisposition on an individual when you've got an entire football club literally dying...

If there's a possibility of gaining pick 2 for Frawley, I'd take it in a heart beat. With the people, coaches and recruiting staff now at the club, you'd be confident that we'd get the pick right and the player would be given the opportunity to develop properly.

We cannot let our previous bad drafting record undervalue our early picks and we shouldn't force a bad trade. Jason Taylor needn't be punished for the bad work of others.

good post, let's be honest he's already gone as is Clark. Cross had showed more leadership in one preseason and three games .

Apparently Frawley is expecting $800,000 to move clubs.

Either he's just foxing and has no intention to leave Melbourne, or he has a massively inflated ego and thinks he is a year-in year-out All-Australian upon whom any given club's fortunes could pivot.

Seriously, if you want to be in the top 1% of player salaries, you should probably iron out the inconsistency, random drops to sullen half-effort, and imperfections from you game.

If he is seriously aiming for 800,000, he needs to be shown to the door with a smile. That kind of arrogance and delusion is a cultural disaster.

Well his bargaining position would be trying to get Melbourne to pay overs knowing we have the cap space, but trying his luck to see the highest he can get from rival clubs. It's hard to say what the club would do if forced to choose between Chip and guaranteed pick 2 compensation. Depends on who's available from other clubs and who is at the top end of the draft. Two Josh Kelly types straight into the team would help for next season.

Isn't this years draft meant to be littered with talls?

Hawks got bugger all for Buddy, another example of AFL moving the goalposts.

In my opinion, Frawley and his manager should be asked to meet with the MFC footy department. At that TAPED meeting he should be asked if the newspaper article is correct and he is asking $800000 to move to a new club. A yes or no answer. If he says yes its correct the MFC should offer him a 4 year deal of $700000 a year plus possible bonuses.

Ifs he refuses the deal and still intends to move on next year, tell his manager and him thanks for coming in to talk and wish him a merry Christmas. After he has left the room the MFC should drop him to Casey and leave him there for the rest of the year.

With the rest of the year we should use it to get our backline organised and decisions on draft replacements thought over.

if Eddie Betts can get 600 k from the crows, someone will pay 800 k for chip, it's insane but i reckon they will do it

Hard line stance but I like it... Won't happen in a million years though.

700k is still more than he is worth by some way.

Chip must be thinking about his neck issue post football.

He may require a specially designed and manufactured neck brace to hold his head in place, keeping it from tilting front to back after watching 20 goals fly over his head each week for 8 years.

Either way we cannot be dictated to publicly, particularly by leaders who should be setting the example and driving the change, it looks terrible. This may be our chance to quickly gain momentum through trades and adequate drafting*.

It's is quickly becoming less about Melbourne and more about the loss of revenue for the AFL and other clubs as patron numbers dwindle at all our games, home and away, as we continue to be noncompetitive.

*None of this 'Prendergastly' crap that has crippled us.

I thought you were serious for a minute then.....I'm thinking, what neck injury? Lol.

Hawks got bugger all because as the winner of the flag their first round pick was 18. The compo for such highly paid players is the next pick after their first round pick.

Its sad to say but we are almost certain to finish last and therefore have pick number 1. And if Frawley gets a long term deal around the 700k mark we will get pick 2.

$800k is prob what the hawks have already offered his manager for chip.

Someone will definitely pay that for him make no mistake about that.

I agree, Frawley is playing Chicken with the MFC. Will we call his bluff?

For the immediate future, if Frawley goes it would be worse than if he stayed. But if (massive if) we drafted/traded correctly, we could come out ahead in a couple of years time, than if he stays.

I'd much rather take 1 step back now, if it meant taking 2 steps forward immediately after that step back (and we maintained that advantage). Not 1 step back followed by 2 steps forward then 2-3 steps back. But an overall gain, so long as it doesn't take ages to get here or that it never gets here at all. But that cannot be 100% guaranteed, even if you are a club that isn't as inept as one like ours.

If losing Frawley means another top 2-3 pick, i'd take that every day of the week, because he simply doesn't do the basic things that he should be doing every game (none of our list does).

And if my team was in serious premiership contention for the next few years, but needed to fix up their backline a bit, i'd pay that for him too. The question is, how much are you willing to pay to win a premiership? I'd just about sell my soul, as we have been starved for even the smallest of successes for so long.

It's just that we are so far off that stage, we cannot / should not pay that amount for him, because he alone will not fix our problems.

If Frawley really wanted to stay at Melbourne and really cared about our plight and strengthening our club, he'd take the minimum amount acceptable and reasonable, so that we could throw that extra money at trying to land another good player to help improve the team (not waste it on just trying to keep him). If $500,000 is his market value and a fair offer, he would want to accept it. Not be extremely selfish and try to bleed as much out of the club as possible.

If he holds us to ransom and wants something way more than he is worth or has rightly earned, then we should have the balls to wish him the best of luck at another club without a second thought. Because it would be the best thing overall for the MFC.

When i think of someone who gives his all for the MFC, my mind would go to Nathan Jones a million times before it would ever go to Frawley.

We have to spend $9.5m a year - that is approx. the salary cap floor.

If we paid people what they have been worth - Nathan Jones would have to be about $5m for us to reach the $9.5m number.

Gotta pay somebody...

We always bemoan losing talent. It would be good to keep Frawley - don't kid yourself it wouldn't be.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
