samcantstandya 1,081 Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Yes I think big Fitz is out or used as trade bait. Wight would be a very very good pick. Modern ruck with fwd ability. I thought this year with Clark gone Fitzy would become a fixture. But he hasn't still could though. Don't like his high ball drop when kicking for goal, but he has that rare asset for a big man speed. He can pinch hit in the ruck. As much as Pedersen has improved I still prefer Fitzy over him as Ped at times seems disinterested tired or lazy. Quote
Moonshadow 17,678 Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 (edited) Pedo has done more this year than Fitzy has done in total. One has turned around and had a solid year, the other has turned around and largely gone unsighted during 2014. Edited August 15, 2014 by Moonshadow 2 Quote
ChaserJ 5,192 Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 So when they say it's an even draft are they saying the talent is evenly spread or that no one is realy good enough to stand out? Both. Talent in the top 10 doesn't look as good as last year, but the pool probably has greater overall depth than last year. 2 Quote
rpfc 29,029 Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Tyson deal wasnt 2 for 1. It wss 2 for 2 Pick 2, Tyson, Pick 9, Pick 22. Which one is the outlier? It was a 2 for 1 for pointy end talent. 1 Quote
TheoX 1,222 Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 I'm just completely sold on Brayshaw. IMO Brayshaw is better inside than Petracca - which transfers better to the AFL game. I think it's been said that Brayshaw has a very high uncontested possession % (for a supposed inside mid), which doesn't transfer to AFL very well Quote
Lil_red_fire_engine 11,383 Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Both. Talent in the top 10 doesn't look as good as last year, but the pool probably has greater overall depth than last year. Which is exactly why I would look for the right trade if available and trade to the back end of the first round if required. I think you still have a good chance of landing a player you want. 1 Quote
beelzebub 23,392 Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Yes I think big Fitz is out or used as trade bait. Wight would be a very very good pick. Modern ruck with fwd ability. I dont think Fitzy is a bad player at times but his opportunity for career progression at Melbourne I think is limited. If he hasn't immersed himself into our best 25 by now it ain't gonna happen. I think he will ne offerer up in trade indeed he might well suit an outfit bereft of a tall in a supportive role. Quote
Ted Lasso 19,586 Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 I think Fitzy might hold some value to another side that is lacking in key forward targets and he wouldn't cost a fortune to attract, perhaps a team like Freo or the Bulldogs would consider Fitz if he was on the table Quote
Machsy 2,858 Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Wright would be a safer pick than some of the other forwards IMO. Should make it as a first class ruckman alone. I like Brayshaw though, kid has skills, toughness and can find the pill. Are you serious? Ruckmen are the most speculative type of all. I'd be very wary of Wright more than anyone else projected top 10. 1 Quote

Pates 9,697 Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Fitzy is my 2014 disappointment, I honestly don't know where his career is heading. With the lack of forward options available I would've expect him to be bashing down the door, but he's been mostly unsighted for the entire year. His recent form at Casey has been solid though so perhaps he'll get a game or two in before the end. It sounds like whereas last year he was predominantly a forward they've been focusing on getting him ruckwork better. Quote
Machsy 2,858 Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Hogan and barry for pick 3 and 13? Thats 2 for 2 Just like the Dom Tyson trade, that's essentially 2 for 1 (plus change). Quote

He looks a top notch ruckman and top notch forward. This guy is reasonably safe. Not as safe as Brayshaw, but he is safer than past ruckman who were taken early and failed - ala: Tyrone Vickery. Wright appears to be a safer selection IMO. In saying that, we do need mids and our early picks should be to gain mids. I personally think Tom Mitchell would run rings around any early selection available in this draft. Not sure we'd have to give up an early pick for Mitchell either. Quote

I counted 2 picks and counted we got back 2 players. An 11 pick upgrade is hardly worth completly discounting our 2nd pick was part of the deal. Edited August 16, 2014 by olisik Quote

Dont get me started on what players the game has which were 2nd round picks. Quote

It was not 2 for 1 and people got to get that through theyre heads You have got to get in your head that Pick 9 is far better than Pick 22 and when it comes to any metric - a top 10 pick will be exponentially more valuable than a pick in the 20s. We also got Hunt and GWS passed on the later pick we exchanged in that deal if you are purely being pedantic. I even heard that Viney and co. had Salem at 4 and we were delighted when the trade effectively meant two top 5 talents for 1 top 5 talent and a second round pick. If you don't think we got value just say so - because that is all we are saying - that we maximised our position at the top of the draft and got a couple of young guns who look likely. More of the same this year, please. 1 Quote

Watts Jurrah Dunn? 735 Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 The Tyson deal was 2 for 2. Crouch, Hartung, McStay, Merrett and Lewis Taylor were all available with that pick you all think was "steak knives" or "loose change". They have all shown just as much as Salem. Quote

Demanding Success 298 Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 I watched Brayshaw play yesterday. I have no problem at all using one of our early picks in him. I thought he was bog. I'm still on the fence between petracca and Brayshaw. I will be happy with either or rapt with both. I have been told that the doggies rate McCartin at one. They say he will be a 10 year player. Not that they will get a look in though. 1 Quote
