I wonder, if we finish 16th and assuming Chip goes and the Saints take McCartin and Petracca goes to the Giants, would you take him and then trade pick 4 for a couple of mids.

What are peoples opinions on the disposal quality and decision making of Petracca vs Brayshaw?

Hypothetically speaking, if we were given first access to pick either, I'd say they would key attributes in determining which player to pick.

I've heard neither have elite disposal but from that limited footage someone posted, I didn't see the 'neat' disposal that people speak of with Brayshaw. Petracca on the other hand whilst not a Salem kick looked like he's got better decision making and awareness when it comes to disposing the ball by foot.

Early days of course but one thing we got right last year was nailing two picks that have AFL standard kicking and decision making ability in Salem and JKH. Needs to be a theme for this draft too.

We know how much our team lacks in skill execution and decision making.

I'm just completely sold on Brayshaw.

IMO Brayshaw is better inside than Petracca - which transfers better to the AFL game.

Also, Brayshaw is dual sided, just as good on his left - as he is on his right.

My knock on Brayshaw would be that he tends to just hack it on his boot out of the pack.

And I will be interested to see what Brayshaw tests for the sprints - he doesn't appear overly quick.

Petracca on the other hand is blistering, explosive and tends to find space.

But not a great kick, I won't knock that.

I would take Brayshaw ahead of Petracca, I think Brayshaw has the skill set and game similar to Wines/Martin.

I like this kid, will be a good get as a 2nd or 3rd round pick at the moment. Good size, strong inside, quick hands.

Watched him first hands and in that game his attack on the ball was Viney-like, I was there with my father and some mates and we all commented on how hard he was going at it, mind you at the time we had no idea who he was

Would we recruit him as a forward or a ruck more so?

I rate him as a ruckman, not as much as a forward

if we went with Wright we would have to be very accepting of the fact this kid could take 4-5 years as some ruckman seem too

A lot of people say he's too small and that's the reason why he'll be a late or rookie pick at best. I think that type of thinking is complete bs. Prestia seems to be doing pretty well for a little bloke too. For anyone that will say Prestia's physicality allows him to do well, i'm gonna counter with Daniel's pace allowing to become an effective AFL player.

Plus, and the biggest plus, the kids got heart. Give me that over Jack Watts' attitude any day of the week.

The difference in height between Caleb Daniel and Dion Prestia is the same as the difference in height between Prestia and Brent Moloney. It's huge.

Caleb Daniel looks awesome! Elusive, excellent hands, great disposal and can kick goals, he'll be the next Brent Harvey.

I'd be happy to pick him up there too 'Machsy'. I think he has a better kick on him than Riley, sprayed a couple but also nailed some beauties. I also like the way he sets up at stoppages and isn't afraid to spread and get involved on the outside.

Daniel's got excellent endurance to go with his pace, makes good decisions and has a good kick on him. I'd take a flyer from the third round onward.

Lloyd on Footy Classified just said if GWS had pick 1 they'd choose Petracca, if Saints had it they'd choose McCartin... and if MFC had it, they'd select Wright.

It makes a little bit of sense. We need another ruckman, but also a KPF that can ruck. That'll leave Dawes and Hogan to play true KPF.

Heard that. Likely just a rumour or speculation based from sources, there's no way all 3 clubs would leak answers, if they've even made up their minds.

But based on needs it's a fit. GWS have no need for McCartin and less need for Wright unless they only want to play him ruck and I wouldn't take a ruck number 1, a dynamic mid/fwd makes a better fit for them. St Kilda have Rhys Stanley as a second ruck or could use Hickey/Longer in combination and desperately need a key forward. And either a mid or Wright as a fwd/ruck makes sense for us.

Just on the footage above Wright looks very raw. Clean with his skills but raw in terms of how he uses his body, his intensity at the contest and physicality. I wouldn't expect much from him for 24 months as he learns how to compete against guys without just being bigger. But once he did to have a big guy with clean skills and good athleticism he could easily be a Kurt Tippett deep forward and relief ruck.

Would the Saints take Shiel & Jaksch for P-1 & something?

Just off that footage, I reckon Peter Wright looks a bit like Sam Jacobs (personally and from a playing perspective). Remember Jacobs took 6 years to become elite. Also:

Positives for me are:

• good size
• he presents well as a forward
• reasonable speed for a big unit.

Negatives for me are:

• Runs across the centre ruck contest every time. Experienced ruckmen would go straight at him and outjump him.
• Hits to advantage were rare. Even uncontested hitouts were often to the receivers feet.
• Set shooting will be variable because he has a big left/right wobble on approach
• Game sense. So keen to handpass he often put the reciever under instant pressure.

All the negatives can be taught but can we afford to wait?

I may well be wrong, but I can't see Roos wanting him over some quality mids.

It makes a little bit of sense. We need another ruckman, but also a KPF that can ruck. That'll leave Dawes and Hogan to play true KPF.

Would be a direct replacement for Mitch Clark in terms of type.

Obviously would take a long time to develop to the same level.

My tendency is to go for mids.

Just going on Roo’s past recruiting strategy, I feel it’s unlikely he’ll draft a ruck type this high. The policy at Sydney was always to pick up the rucks through trade, after they had matured and were ready to contribute straight away.

With Max Gawn coming through, & Jamar as first ruck for now, I think we go for Wright only if we are one of the clubs that feels he can play full time kpf. I believe most clubs think Wright’s a ruck/fwd at AFL level, and as of yet Wright hasn’t excelled in the ruck for Calder (he did have one excellent game in the Champs there).

No, but it hasn't hurt Aish or Dunstan.

It's part of an overall picture.

Liked the look of Gore as well. The team from Bound For Glory did a Phantom Draft last week and had him going at pick 70 to Fremantle.

I thought Brayshaw was a right footer. It's clear his ambidextrous but his left foot does look like his preferred foot and actually looks fairly neat.

Glad I saw that. What a gift to have. It's clear it doesn't faze him which side he kicks on but his left looks smooth.

I might need to pipe down about Petracca after all. This bloke looks pretty special too. Along with Weller.

Brayshaw is quite good on both sides and pretty handy in traffic, I reckon he's gunna be a good player and very consistent

Petracca is more talanted but I think he's going to be a burst player
