Pick the 2nd and 3rd best mids in the draft class.

Do that and you will have two very good players.

I completely understand the desire not to 'reach' for players - but we have the 2nd and 3rd picks in the draft - we should be able to secure 2 fantastic mids.

They should back themselves to know who they are. If it is Laverde or Lever plucked 'early' at ND3 then so be it.

For me it's the top two talents, not positions.

I'll be happy with two of these three: McCartin, Petracca, and Brayshaw.

Ideally Petracca and Brayshaw if the Saints take McCartin. If they take Petracca, it's McCartin and Brayshaw for me.

If St Kilda do take Petracca with pick 1, it wouldn't be a bad idea if we taken McCartin with pick 2.

We have Hogan coming through, to add McCartin to that would be massive.

We will have developing mids in Viney, Tyson, Salem, Brayshaw - and arguably Toumpas.

MFC would have 2 bustling forwards, not just any type of forwards - but old school, bustling, dominate fowards.

So I don't think it is the end of the world if St Kilda do take Petracca, they'll only be shooting themselves in the foot.

Membry isn't going to solve their problems, he is a small forward and probably even better suited to a midfield role.

Over the trade period we have seen how valuable forwards can be - with the Bullies parting with their captain and high draft picks just to get one.

I don't think so, should take the two best talents available (not possition) and if the club rate McCartin within their top three he should be taken if Petracca goes at one.

I like the concept of having Hogan and McCartin develop together, they could become a fantastic combination over the years.

Ideally I would prefer Petracca and Brayshaw, however won't be disapointed if we end up with McCartin due to the Saints taking one of the previous two.

I think McCartin as the third best talent is just groupthink amongst the armchair experts.

Sam Durdin makes it in at #10 and her next player is Alex Neal-Bullen at 23. Harrison Wigg (39) is the only other Croweater in her top 40. Sturt's Dean Gore doesn't even make her list. Knightmare rates him as a "high level difference maker".

Either the coach of the SA Under 18 must be a genius to have put together a winning team from the material he had at his disposal or we are grossly underestimating the ability of youngsters from that state in favour of our own.

I commented about the lack of love for South Australians in another thread. I hope our recruiting people are on to this - I'd hate the SA clubs to benefit from the Victoriacentric mindset that some people have towards this draft.

Thanks 'oil. Well, she's at odds with Chris25 who recently released his updated phantom draft (still no detailed profiles). He selects Bampton at 40 which would suit me - and he also has Gore available at that choice. I think his top four is about right to with the Saints taking Petracca, us getting Brayshaw and Lever and the Giants getting McCartin as their replacement for Boyd. The Saints get their KPF with their second pick and we unite two brothers with pick 53.

I don't think the two Macs will end up in the same team (not even sure that we'll use 53 in the draft or at all yet) but I'd be happy with this (noting we would then take Nev as a rookie upgrade in the 80s) -

Paige has `done some recruiting work for Port, would imagine she'd have some insight on Bampton either first or at least second hand.

There's no chance we take McCartin even if he's available. We'll be taking two midfielders and if we only take one and then say Wright, that'll mean Taylor and co don't think much of the rest of the midfield talent in this draft. Roos has signposted all year that we'll be taking mids, mids, mids.

We can take 2 mids with later picks, plus Brayshaw and Billy Stretch. It will come down to best available. If there was a second very good mid to take we'd take them. But just because Roos is suspect on drafting young forwards doesn't mean he won't let the recruiting staff do their job. I don't see Roos complaining about us getting Hogan. If McCartin is rated high enough we have to pick him.

I have suggested on the pick 2 and 3 thread that someone should set up a voting thread where you nominate your pick 2 and 3 for the records. So there are no retrospectives when an early pick gun fails to fire a shot, in that people start saying they always advocated player X.

With the need for a forward, with Jamar nearing the end of his career and with Gawn being injury prone, I would not be surprised to see Wright get the nod as he fills both needs.

I agree it is however,if the only knock against him is that he missed all but an exhibition game in his draft

year, then I simply don't believe it's a good enough reason to rule him out for consideration at a pick as high as three.

He's big- bodied, posesses explosive pace, an excellent vertical leap- to be so impressive physically at the combine tells me that he is well and truly over his leg injury.

Moreover, his skills on both sides of his body are exceptional, he's a linebreaker, a two way runner, extremely coachable and comes across as somebody so professional and team-oriented that I consider him to be a relatively low go home risk.

In the end I believe he may actually end up being the best of this draft, so when it comes to risk vs reward, I believe tjat he is worth the risk.
