I know a few on here are sick of what they call my Byrnes bashing, but I don't see it that way. I have nothing against him, other than I don't see him as relevant to our future.

We have spoken ad nauseum about this club getting ruthless and actions are where it starts.

I don't see a role for Byrnes in the seniors anymore. I see several overlooked players in the draft who could offer the MFC many years, rather than Shannon's one at best IMO.

If Shannon could be coaxed into retiring and made an assistant playing Coach with Casey, with perhaps an extra $50-$75k added to his remaining contract and paid over two years, he could free up a spot and have a role at the club for at least two years and gain valuable coaching experience. I see that as a win-win for club and player. Retiring is better than being delisted. He would then gain as a part of the overall Roos coaching team.

We could then have the first live pick in the PSD and get whichever player we want from the remaining pool. I am absolutley 100% certain, that whoever we took would be of more long term value to the MFC.

This is not about picking on a bloke, but doing what a ruthless club would do to improve.

Remember, he is not Junior who played with us for many years, he is a bloke we gave another chance to after no one else wanted him and his club delisted him.

If we could delist Nicho and rookie him, I would do that as well.

If we aim to be a professional club, hard decisions sometimes need to be made. The Pies had no qualms in moving on Heath Shaw, a very good player, even after losing Daisy.

Yer thats pretty much what I said re-Nicho.

It applies for Byrnes and Pedo as well only they are sadly contracted.

Can you payout players? Because if Pedo doesn't show anything next year then I think it would be worth considering paying him out (he is signed till the end of 2015 right?)

Yes you can pay out players.

Ok thankyou for clarifying. I suspect Dan Nicholson may be delisted as he has not been offered a new contract.

Is it possible to delist him to free up a PSD pick and then rookie him ?

I can confirm that Nicho is contracted for next year. 100%.

That would be a great outcome, Byrnes is finished as a footballer and SHOULD struggle to get a game next year; if that's the way he'd prefer to finish his career so be it. There are a few options left who missed out because they have a fault that probably could be corrected and a PSD pick or Rookie would give them a chance.

Anyway I seriously hope we pick up Eli Templeton.

Just a natural footballer that would add depth to our midfield. I was absolutely shocked he was overlooked.

Runs hard and has a massive tank with good skills to go along with.

Does anybody have a list of the current PSD order? If we were to delist a Nicho we would all of a sudden have access to the second best footballer not currently on a list. The best if GWS don't have any space on their list???

Wait... What? Didn't you say he's 100% contracted? Now you're talking about delisting him? WTF?

Rather than delisting Nicho and then rookieing him, I prefer Redleg's idea that we entice Byrnes to retire and offer him a playing coach role with Casey which could end up a Win-Win-Win outcome for Byrnes, MFC and Casey by ensuring he is not out of pocket and continuing his football career whilst gaining coaching experience, we get the best available player in the PSD and Casey is strengthened in their playing/coaching depth courtesy of MFC.

Stuie, he is contracted. That doesn't mean he can't be delisted as long as we commit to taking him in the rookie draft. Pretty simple really.

Doesn't him being contracted mean he CAN'T be delisted? Isn't that the whole point of being contracted?

Tell him he would be behind Kent, JKH, Barry, and that he would be limited for opportunities??? This would be a great result.

As long as the financial terms of the contract are met it doesn't matter what list he is on, or that he has to be listed at all.

Gotcha. Probably not likely then is it, we're not really in a position to pay more people who don't actually work for us...

But this is why you might delist him, and then rookie him. You don't have to pay him out. And it frees up a spot on the primary list.

Yeah, don't mind the idea.. Something just doesn't seem right with it though...

It can't be right. What happens if another team wants him? Do they have to pay the contract demands of his current contract which may be higher? He can't take a paycut he's contracted but the rookie draft benefit is they only have to pay them 60,000 so by having a contracted player in it it'd restrict too much.

Nicholson is here to stay, and we won't be delisted or rookied.

Cavarra and Templeton should be the main targets. I'm surprised they weren't taken top 30 in the draft! Both are definitely potential AFL midfielders, more so than many that were drafted. If we land one we have got a bargain.

Posted

Bourke, Hourigan, Cain, Templeton, Tsitas, Christensen, and Weller, would be happy to get any of these guys, I still can't believe Templeton didn't get drafted, thought he would go second round.

Rookie for needs?

Ruckman, small forward/mid and kpd.

agree again jabber

I'd like to see us rookie a tall in the mold of a jumping jack like longer/ryder

also some small medium defenders to fill any future voids off HBFlank & the BPocket.

key back is looking very thin ... I believe we need to look at Matthew Sully from Geelong VFL, Joel Tippett from West Adelaide or Koby Beard from Port Magpies.

Any club that drafts him must meet the financial demands of his contract. It's not that hard to understand.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
