2014 Contracts Thread

Featured Replies

If we retain Terlich, it's not because he's better than any of those players.

It's because we can't get rid of everyone at once and the others have had a longer shot at it than Terlich.

True, but we're really down to only 5 or 6 genuine hacks on the out of contract list, plus Clark and Byrnes, so I suppose 7 or 8 changes might be about right. I just thought Roos might leave open the possibility of that one extra spot, when nobody will be beating down the door to pick up Terlich and we can always give him a new contract after trade week or the draft.

Just seems really odd timing.

bump

handy reference :)

I thought I would make a new one as the old one was getting a little long.

2017

Dunn, Hogan

2014

* = Best guess of contract length. Would love confirmation...

List Spots Available: 1

Additions: ND3, ND21, ND39, ND57, ND75, ND93, ND111

Actions:

Clark and Byrnes retired.

Jetta upgraded and signed till 2016.

This would be a good thread as a reference for contracts and also future list management if one is so inclined.

Looking at this list and allowing for the loss of Clark and Chip it makes you think how do we even justify spending 92.5% of the salary cap. We must have a truckload of cap space available. The club should be in a position to offer at least two multi million dollar contracts to contracted players in a bid to lure them to this rabble of a club. Players like Luke Parker and Steele Sidebottom. We have to spend the money somewhere, and if done properly in terms of length of contract/front ended there's no reason why we shouldn't do it. We need ready made players not just more draft picks. Throw up the money and someone of quality will come sniffing around. This wouldn't have to be ongoing as in a couple of years the youngers have hopefully come on.

I really hope we have thrown the kitchen sink at Jeremy Cameron

A great player and excitement machine that will put bums on seats

I don't think he'd be an excitement machine at Melbourne unless we can get the ball down to him. I'd rather pursue some midfield talent. Not footsoldiers or journeymen. Real talent. It's where we are most deficient.

2014
Frawley (UFA), Tapscott, Blease, Strauss, Bail, Byrnes, Terlich, Clisby*, Riley*, Nicholson, Harmes ®, King ®, Georgiou ®,

Bail, Terlich and Riley just re-signed

Where will all the open spots come from now?

So much for a list overhaul

Tapscott, Blease, Strauss, Clisby and Nicholson not enough for you?

With Byrnes, Clark and Frawley, that's 8 new faces, excluding trades.

I'm sure if a bloke like Fitzy can find a home elsewhere, we'll help him get there cheaply.

As you say that is still a large number of changes.

I would like to keep Fitzy at least he kicks goals when he gets the ball unlike some who cannot goal from 15 metres.

Updated. Assumed 1 year deals.

I would not be surprised to see that Bail is a two year stint.

Seems to have impressed Roos

rpfc, this is one of the best threads on Demonland, well done keeping it up to date.

I've heard that the players were told pre GWS game that 8 wouldn't be on the list next year. Excluding Mitch and Byrnes.

Interesting if true. Wonder if that's related to the performance we put up?

I still say it should be stickied at the top of the board as a great reference.

Typically Melbourne ham fisted list management if true.

Updated after Clisby and Nicholson delisted.

I think 8 new players is enough.

We don't want another 14 changers like Neeld did do we?

Well if 14 blokes are introduced and we get 10 more like Cross, Tyson, Vince then we are in a far better spot than rolling on with Evans , McKenzie & Co.

When has anyone got 10 wins like that in one off season?

It is about the quality of changes not the quantity.

That is why if we have 24 players to delist, you are far better off delisting them over a three year period.

Hell, a couple might turn things around - but that never happens, that's why we paid out Pedersen and didn't re-rookie Jetta - because they were done...

The really good news is that I can only see 4-5 really obvious players to jettison in 2015, so that has to be an improvement...

Frawley FA to Hawthorn for ND3.

Stretch acquired in F/S for ND40

Garlett acquired for ND61 and a swap of 5th round picks.

With one list spot available right now and Lumumba and Frost to come in - I would say that we will only have three live picks in the draft (ND2, ND3, and ND23) and that 4 players would have to be moved/delisted; Clark, Strauss, Blease and Tapscott.

Lumumba trade in for Clark - somehow.

What do we then give for Frost?

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
