Pick 40 MELBOURNE

Chris Cain

Club: Port Melbourne

D.O.B: 14.17.1987

Height: 181cm

Weight: 83kg

Port Melbourne will continue the trend of propelling mature age talent into the AFL system again this year, and it will come in the way of prolific goal-kicking midfielder, Chris Caine who will be highly sought after. The medium midfielderhad an outstanding season with Port Melbourne in the VFL, also won the Frank Johnson Medal as Victorias best player against WA this year. Caine has really good speed and agility and excels at clearances where his stoppage work is first class. Known to rack up big numbers of the ball and impact on the scoreboard, Caine is the Sam Dwyer of this years draft. Given Melbourne are on the hunt for mature age players who can really offer midfield hardness and the ability to impact the scoreboard, Id tip the Dees to take Cain this draft.

If Zak Jones is available, obviously that's a steal and mst be done. :)

From the lists at the start of this thread, I'd lean towards Spina. Convinced that with later picks you should go with the 'natural footballers' and see how far they can come in a fully professional environment.

Assuming the we are, now, a fully professional environment.

That, or some roadrunners to mix up the pace a bit.

options here are

tall key position backs: Cameron Giles or Daniel Mcstay

tall rebounding half backs:Tom Cutler or Nick Bourke

small fwds: Dwayne Wilson or Jay Kennedy-Harris

more midfielders: Nick Holman or James Tsitas

this is based on our needs and possible available players

  • 3 weeks later...

I reckon Isaiah Miller could fill that void and a very good chance he'll still be available at Pick 57.

187cm, 82kg

Isaiah is a really great prospect watched a fair bit of him playing with the Bendigo pioneers, played with Ollie wines last year. He is an athlete (has pace, agility and endurance),and although at the moment plays in the backline, he could easily turn into a really solid midfielder.. Lots of upside with this guy, and would do anything to get there.

If Garlett is available it must be him. All the concrete choices will be in place but the magic is what makes our game our game. And we the MFC, post the Wiz and LJ don't have it.

Skilled and determined we hope, but pedestrian. Where is the point of difference?

From everything I'm hearing Cameron Giles is still likely to be there at Pick 40.

195cm, 93kg KPD who provides a heap of run. With no real back up after Chip, Garlo and Tommy Mac we need to snap this guy up if he's still there at 40!

about as much chance of that happening, as there is of Scharenberg falling to pick 9.

Would be a bumper draft if we were able to nab those 2 at picks 9 & 40 respectively!

A small forward would be handy ... Malcolm Karpany, Dwayne Wilson or Jay Kennedy-Harris.

No small forwards please.

Holman could be there and I'm pretty sure he's the type we are looking for, 187cm strong inside/out mid hard at it developing well.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
