Remember GWS put the main chunks of their list together through 4 different ways.

- Out of contract players - Davis, Ward, Scully

- 17 year olds - Shiel, Treloar, Jeremy Cameron, Bugg - here they likely took best available but Shiel and Bugg went to school together and would've played junior rep footy with

- 2011 AFL draft - Patton, Coniglio, Greene, Tyson, Adams etc

- 2012 AFL draft - Whitfield, O'Rourke, Ploughman

They have shown a liking towards Vic Metro but in some ways the Adams and Tyson trades have highlighted the value in doing that. They got good return on those guys. Compare that to what Brisbane have got for Yeo to West Coast and Polec back to Adelaide.

I've seen this written a few times and can't say that I agree with the sentiment. We may have the 8th "live" pick but by all reports Mcdonald was widely rated as a top 6 recruit in this years draft and that the kangas, while paying a high price, aren't paying overs for his selection.

I think you misinterpreted my post.

I was not paying out Watts only making a joke about the whole drafting friends idea.

I think it is wrong to pay out a 20 year old in Scully for making a very tough decision - he was offered security for not only himself but his family and seemed to be on the outer at Melbourne. Yes maybe he didn't go about it in the best way but he was a 20 year old and made a decision that most 20 year olds would. To attack Scully is tight but to attack his family is just low.

We won out of it in the end so move on.

Christian Salem looks great on the AFL draft prospects today. He is a left footer so I think that Roos will consider him at Pick 9. He also seems a mature young man who would put the team first.

This 'drafted mates' idea: you have a group of kids who have gone through the system together, playing u18's, TAC, or whatever. You then select from that pool some players for your list. Likelihood some of them will be 'mates''. I imagine that we are not going to look at some of their mates who don't play footy, just to keep a tethered goat at the stables so the thoroughbred hangs around.

If we want to keep a top pick, it's because it's a great club, where they get paid a heap and have the chance to win. Most of these guys would sell their mums to get drafted. If we make a selection because of teenage bromance (and it isn't a coincidence of being together in the same system), then we truly are screwed up.

Imagine your mate being drafted to 'encourage' you to stay.

We would be better off drafting some kids with personality who can make friends with our list.

Haven't seen him live, but from the various online clips he seems to have good disposal and very good vision, in the style of Luke Hodge as others have noted. However, he doesn't look particulary quick. Short and stocky build, breaks tackles but not blessed with speed. Does this sound about right to those that have seen him play? I would have thought that a lightening quick mid with good delivery skills would be handy for us now that we have Tyson, Vince, Michie on board.

Sorry to say but it will definitely be the other way around. As I stated in the Bontempelli thread my scouting/ recruiting friend considers Bontempelli too slow for AFL (in regards to pace and play) and thought he could slide to the second round. Even Bontempelli states in his recent youtube interview he initially had trouble adjusting to the speed of the games in the championships - AFL will be a massive step above that.

It sounds like WC are interested in Sheed, they love local talent and believe he will slide to pick 11. I stated above his attitude is short of desirable, you could compare it to a Palmer or Masten (a bit cocky and FIGJAM) who were both also highly rated juniors with not so desirable attitudes.

I was definitely concerned when the filth and WC did that trade, initally I was thinking Sheed was going at 6 only leaving BL capable of scooping Freeman. If the filth do I hope we pick up Crouch.

Going purely on the video highlights it would be Lennon for me, huge upside and a lot to work with. If we want hard at it it's Crouch but I think we have that covered now.

Yes he gets a lot of he ball, but his skills are about a 4 out of 10.
