2013 Player Review - # 27 Tom Gillies

If you want one story that encapsulates how we're travelling, you only need to look at the story of two players delisted by Geelong at the end of 2012 - Jonathan Simpkin and Tom Gillies.

One went to Hawthorn and played in a premiership and the other came to us and - pppft!

I just don't understand how he managed to crack 13 games at Geelong over the last couple of years when they were so dominant.

I remember Hawthorn chased him really hard 2 years ago.

Do they still want him? Jordan Lewis for Gillies thank you.

Was given Rivers' number just as Magner was given Moloney's in a move that can only be construed as "hey we lost these guys in free agency but don't worry we've got these guys to take their place".

Epic fail and Mark Neeld. Synonymous.

Say what you want about this guy but he did have a fine beard

I thought he might offer something based on the fact that the Hawks had chased him 12 months earlier .... but I was very wrong!

Had an up and down season.

Needs to work on his consistency next year.

where ever that is ...

Dud, was a waste of time, effort and money - if the club had taken the time to speak to a Cats fan & not a representative trying to [censored] a mule they would have realised his quality at AFL standard was questionable at best. Its not hard to look Ok in a VFL game when your side dominates week in week out.

Say what you want about this guy but he did have a fine beard

something that most supporters underrate.

yes would have polled votes in the brownlow on beard itself

also in Warrnambool is a pie factory named after the family

these and more interesting facts alone should KEEP him on the list

Even at our most charitable, I doubt if any would have thought that this was a good pick ! :-(

Some kind of a sick joke played on us by the Cats.

Looked like he'd walked out of a pub for his first game.

Neelds worst decision in a litany of bad ones.

I wouldn't be surprised if Tom Gillies is actually a method actor doing some sort of Joaquin Phoenix "I'm Still Here" style project on the MFC. There will probably be a movie about it.

Years from now people will forget Tom Gillies: Innadequate Footballer and only know Tom Gillies: Comedic Genius.

Poor bastard might have shown up in the wrong place at the wrong time, but his two games edged out Isaac Weetra for the worst two and out I've ever seen.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
