massive tick to Paul Roos!

Better do something next year

woohoo break out the sparkling mineral water ^_^

Play footy now Jack, play it the way you can, but with verve and determination. Make yourself proud, be worthy of the jumper.

Youve had a think, now is time to DO !!

On ya Wattsy!

Amazing what a new coach can do. Comes in tell Watts he is required and installs a great new set of confidence into him. Unlike someone who came in and told Watts he was the most overated number 1 pick and was set to send him off to North Melbourne for a third round draft pick...

I'm very pleased and sounds like a good deal. He is finally starting to look like a man and less of a boy - I look forward to see what Paul Roos can get out of him over the next three years.

I'm a little surprised by the midfielder comment, very interesting indeed.

Awesome news.

10 years of good football Jack!

He dabbled as a fill in ruck at times. If i had to place a bet he'll be winger

hmmm

all bodes for a bit of a rejig to the list and lineup.....Im curious :)

I just hope he gets to play that high half forward pinch hitting in the midfield, the bloke played half the year up forward and kicked 22 goals, and of those games he played forward he half of them he would have spent a lot of time as our loose man in defense. He can be a 30-40 goal a year forward and if we have fit Clark, Dawes and Hogan up forward Watts will be a very hard match up.

Happy he signed but like most he needs to show what he can do on a regular basis. No more half arsed efforts, he will know Roos won't let him get away with that.

"To have someone of his (Roos) stature and even just to be able to talk to him for five minutes and see his vision of where we’re going and what kind of person he is – that made the decision a lot easier,”

2014 is going to be a good year

Good news.

I've always wanted to see him play on a wing so I think this could be a great move.

Well done to Paul Roos. The man gets what he wants.

Meh, hoping but meh.

lol...its a bit like that isnt it !!!

I'm surprised either party would have wanted a three-year deal, but I guess this is good news.

In the midfield hey Roosy!, looks like he's trying make make Wattsy Melbourne's Kennedy. Should be very interesting, best of luck next year Jack, does anyone know what kind of coin he is on?

Good news that he's not going overseas either. 2 weeks at Byron should be more than enough for him to relax, especially now he can refresh mentally. A lot of it has been him not helping himself with his on and off field efforts but now he should get a real chance to prove his talents.

I'd like to see him run a top 10 time trial. That would prove he's serious about making it as an AFL star not just a guy who floats between positions. If he's going to be an outside midfielder he will need that fitness as well. Look at the starting wing man from the grand final teams - Hill x two, Isaac Smith, Mzungu, Pearce, all elite runners.

One thing Roos does well is he sticks with guys. Watts is bound to get a month at least of consistent footy in the same spot and if he hasn't proved himself by then it should be back to the reserves.

I'm happy he's signed, and now that he has I hope everyone backs him in. Good stuff Jack, onwards and upwards for you next year.

Much closer to Goodes (but miles away in class) or an Adreas Everitt than Kennedy. Watts will be molded into a tall athletic outside midfielder who can run and use the ball. No coach in a million years will ever make him a big body clearance beast like Kennedy.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
