I'd be surprised if he is up for trade to be honest, it's abit like Ryan Griffen at the dogs, these coaches know they need experience there during the rebuild.

if he is, and they don't want too much i'd look at him.

A bit different to Griffen (much younger and future captain), but I get your point. I'm not sure that the way Waters is acting isn't Neeld mark II, something not quite right about these Malthouse coaches.

...Montagna is not what we are after.

Why trade for a 29yo midfielder when we can possibly pick up Cross [who is much the same age] for nothing in the pre-season draft? As we have second pick [assuming we do not do a "Hannath"] then it is unlikely that we would miss out. Let us keep all our low draft picks for younger midfielders.

Usually, the point of picking up mature players who are past their prime is to provide good veteran-leadership to a rebuilding team. This little [censored] is a cancer, and there is no chance in hell I'd want him, especially since the 'Aints likely want a big package in return for him.

Is there a thread on the pre-season draft or is this draft just a joke?

Who is available or likely to be available?

Is it worth considering acquiring pick 1? (through trade).

Does any decent player actually get picked up this way?

Not Montagna, for me, & not a saints player pref.

If we are to recruit some Elders 28 or above, please make it from either the Cats, Swans, Hawks.

IMO wee need to Firstly change our style to head over the footy (as a first step) with strong bodies playing strong footy... and then a close Second we need to play players who won't lose focus under the Heat of pressure.

after we've established these things into out play styles we could then go for some more average bodied types who area also good runners, who get to spots.

all clubs with soft cultures are working to alleviate it.

the saints have a poor culture & missed the chance to fix it. because they were already rolling when Lyon got there. so he built ontop of it.

they failed, again.

Still got some legs, if saints didn't want much for him I would take him, good player. Not too many issues. I don't see how it could back fire unless he did a shannon byrnes on us. Speeking of Byrnes, he needs to smarten up, realise this isn't just an extra year of wages to end his career and that he has to actually have a crack. No free rides Shannon.

I'm all for adding experience to our young list and especially our midfield. But it's stated in the article st.kilda will only only consider trading montagna for a high pick, which would be ludicrous of Melbourne to do. Think you will find only clubs that think they are a shot at a premiership in the next few years will make a play for Joey.

We should be looking at a young to mid 20's age player to trade pick 2 or explore free agency

Can personally guarantee that Joey is an outstanding bloke and the type of player/person the Dees need to help the kids develop. Having said that, St Kilda won't trade him unless someone presents an offer too good to refuse.

Rather than turn this into a debate of Montagna vs Del Santo vs Cross let's accept than any of the above would generate short-term improvement and let roos & Co. assess what they will cost us. We should not elect to bring in older players near the end of their careers unless the deal is exceptional.

    It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.
