No. Seriously no. We've been bitching about the Melbourne "boys club" and where it's got us

Jackson identified our habit of going for the best "Melbourne" person rather than the best person

Why go there ?

Most of the blokes that have achieved success at our club are brown bread mate. Time to look outside

Best available

Footy first

As for which players I'd like back, none from that list. I don't want a fair chunk of the ones we've still got !

Well in my opinion, the club has tried to remove the 'boys club' employment which is a good thing. But the club was very poor with dismissing the senior players from the team that played in the gf. Guys like white and yze amongst others that served the club quite well in their prime weren't even given a final retirement game and were more or less just delisted. From my memory.

Perhaps white wouldn't be the ruck coach we want, though he is doing some coaching. It would be nice to have those players affiliated with the club in some capacity.

Rivers looked shot tonight vs Port Adelaide. Subbed off. Not sure he has another preseason left in those knees.

Edit. Actually, Scott just said in the post match presser that Riv copped a knock to the ankle which caused him to be subbed.

Speaking of ex-players we may or may not want back, that old chestnut facebook has thrown up the possible return of Darren Jolly as a playing coach! He's a hell of a lot better than Mark Jamar, but he's also battled injury a lot too.

I'll defer to Roosy on this one, but I can't help but think that if it were Mark Neeld in charge, we'd all be screaming "NO!!!" at this idea.

Gysberts - Showed a lot of promise and composure under Bailey, was not given a go by Neeld. Difficult to break in to the very strong Kangas midfield. Come back and play hard for us and see how he goes. I feel it would be a big win for us if he came back for cheap.

Especially if we could give them Pedro back!

If Scott Thompson's on the list, where's Darren Jolly??

I find Thompson too lost a cause to worry about him. I think Petterd was our biggest mistake so I'd love him back, and obviously Scully wanted to leave and took all that cash so that obviously skews my view (although he wouldn't have dare left if he were under Roos!)

PS- I've never understood the "Maloney" thing- seen it before

Rivers having a shocker for the Cats tonight. Looks really slow and clumsy.

I agree totally. Having a shocker.

I actually think he's been great. His biggest weakness is that he can't play on Hale types, but other than that he has been influential all night.

If he was on Buddy or Roughy you could say he had influence on the game. Hale should've kicked at least 4, he missed easy set shots. Rivers influence was negligible. Wonder if the ankle knock last week hobbled him at all.

Rivers once again showed that he is very limited in his flexibility to match-up. He can't play on the real big blokes and is far too slow to play on the smalls.

Thought he was slightly better than Josh Hunt but those 2 were 2 of the Cats weaker players.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
