Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>

Featured Replies

Just watched the last qtr replay of our epic win over the bongers for probably the 5th time.... Just because!

I'm yet to tire of it!!!!

Surely any deal will have to include matches.

The comparison to those exposed to asbestos is ridiculous.

The players are presumably well educated about their responsibilities under the WADA code.

The supplements regime introduced caused the player enough to concern to cause them to ask the club to sign a waiver for each player stating that the regime was WADA compliant.

At this point none of the players appeared to have raised their concerns with their player managers or their well resourced union the AFLPA.

That failure is likely to see them miss games.

If you take illegal substances as a sportsman then you should expect a 2 year ban.

I seen nothing from these players eg remorse etc that deserves a reduction to the maximum penalty.

Oh and another important thing.

Soon he can kiss it good bye.

Well they happily toddled along to all the interviews at the appointed times - and apparently told the truth : "Yes we took the injections - but they were fine - Hirdy told us to sign a confidentiality document because he didn't want the other teams to know that we were getting our vitamins intravenously" .Didn't run away and pretend that they'd never seen a syringe - they cooperated . They are sorry the club dragged it all out by appealing - and they are sorry that Hirdy was misled by that Dank bloke.

Surely Its pretty clear that they shouldn't get the maximum penalty. They've even had to suffer through all Caro's criticisms of Hirdy. Just having to watch their club pay lawyers to wade through all that mail ought to be punishment enough,

At least you'd expect them to suspend Fletcher''s penalty until after his 400th game. It would be nice to think that even if the others cant play that day they'll be allowed on the field to carry the banner!.

So you saying taking banned sustances is OK if you play AFL as long as your about to play your 400 game and/or admit to having injections after you already been found out.

If anyone who has been following the Essendon doping scandal closely reads this and swears with hand on heart that Caro is a great journo then they have their head way deep up their backside ~ Bombers players tipped to accelerate doping cases against them.

Leaving aside the substantial amount of gibberish, there's very little there about the substance of the case made in the show cause noticed, there's commentary about alleged "admissions" that various things should have happened earlier (but no explanation why) and lots of sympathy for players and the possible deal-making to come.

It's not hard to guess where she gets most of her info from despite this pearler ...

"Neither AFL boss Gillon McLachlan nor Essendon chairman Paul Little would comment on Friday night, with spokesmen for both suggesting ... "

Yeah, right

Interesting sideline. In the Sun they said the AFL Anti Doping Tribunal hearing the cases, will be chaired by David Grace QC. Doubt it, he is the players' Counsel.

It is actually David Jones who I think is on the Appeals Board as well.

Grace has enough conflicts you may think being the President (I think) of Athletics Australia

I agree WJ Caros effort was lazy and quite simply substantially inaccurate. Dropped the ball.

She is a Richmond Support after all.

not to be picky but why would Golden Boy be hanging at Hurstville in work clobber ??

he looks like he's off, to the photoshop, maybe to get some prints of himself?

How, do we know if he's ^ had his penalty already. he missed some time earlier, & he was the only one that I know of that confessed publicly to taking substances ?????

Ques?ion marks are the only speccies being taken these days, in the AFL

from the bring back plugger & daics, & jeffrey farmer + the Ox... days of reckoning.

Got to remember how much i earned in 2013 and what i was doing for work in 2014.

And now they want to know where i looked for work.

Im riding my tanna horse straight home after this last interview.

Ash, Good to see you back on these forums.

I would have stayed away from this one tho. :)

Mate I feel for decent Essendon supporters, the club will survice, Hird and the board must all go, they should have stood everyone down (coaches, staff, administrators) pending the findings.

Anything less than 6 months and I think WADA will appeal.

So far I got the AFL bluffed and I am looking really good!

Do you think I can ask Essendon FC for another 2 year contract extension?

Cannot agree with this one bit - FCS he may have only approached 400, or 350 even, because of illegal performance enhancing drugs.

I hope WADA has a different view on all this. This Aussified she'll be right mate form of penalties must go. Its embarrassing.

They appealed Saad's 18th month ban for being too lenient when all he did was drink a sports drink.

Good luck Essendrugs!

I doubt if Saad is a member of a Masonic Lodge and by the same token WADA wouldn't be a branch either..

I just thank god it's not us.

For mine once the offence is committed and evidence collected for purposes of a SCN then the transgressors should be dealt with by the overseeing body. The participant sport itself should have no more part to play.

If this were the case there's little room for crafty shenanigans.

This is all done wrong.

Amen. We probably would have ceased to exist.

I agree. Surely it is a great conflict of interest for the AFL to be involved - on the one hand they have an interest in preserving the drug-free integrity of the game, on the other they have an interest in preserving their financial empire and keeping Essendon supporters and their sympathisers happy. How can they make decisions that won't be tainted one way or the other or even both. And then ASADA/WADA can appeal - why not go straight to them or, since they are in a prosecuting role, to an independent body.

Does anyone know the rationale for this?

I just thank god it's not us.

Its all good Ox

As nothing the MFC has done over the past eight years would come anywhere close to performance enhancing.

"Yes Mr Golden Hair Boy, but we live in the real world and you and your mates can not be saved by your highly paid lawyers any longer"

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
